# We had rhubarb in the garden when I was growing up.
Once some friends of my parents had come to visit, so they drank tea and chatted while I played with their children in the garden (don't panic, we were all about 8 or 9).

The visitor woman got a bit upset and angry when she realised that we had rhubarb in the garden. "But the leaves are poisonous!" she said. "What if [name of her precious little son] had eaten it?" Even at that age, I thought that it the little shit was stupid enough to just start picking plants at random and shoving them in his mouth, then he deserved everything that would happen to him.

God I loved rhubard as a kid - fresh out the garden, bowl of sugar for dipping, Trumpton on the telly. lovely.

Actually, with all that sugar and acid it's no wonder I had "soft teeth"* as a kid

# Oh yes
I was telling Mrs Box about dipping rhubarb in sugar at the weekend, she was incredulous.

The conversation was had while she tucked into her mum's 'rhubarb fool' - which was nothing more than rhubarb, sugar and cream.

# Could be summa to this...
But when has a child been harmed by rhubarb in garden? I find no incidence stats. Its about oxalic acid- same as spinach or sorrel: In a 56kg person, '5 kg of the extremely sour leaves would have to be consumed' to reach LD50 [sayeth wikip].
ie- even playing with a hand-crank juicer, my juvenile-idiot cuisine was no danger. The stuff tastes that awful.
But another reason why adults should eat all the spinach. Save the children!
