This weeks comp is almost as tasteless as the KKK one turned out to be.

# New challenge:
Rejected b3ta Challenges

How about 'Photoshop fatal illnesses'?
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:15, archived)
# I think the challenge should be
Transformers

Shop something that turns into something else.

Edit: Who liked the B3ta TV? I thought it was alright, but it had a bit too much "Xtreme Attitude" and not enough fluffiness, what with the explosions and scrotums and all.

If B3ta TV was ever successful, I think it might need to be toned down for U.S. television, because all Americans love us, always.

Other than that, woo! I'd watch that show forever.

I'd vote for it

# Personally
I haven't seen it. Because I only have dialup and i now feel even more like a second class citizen. Part of the appeal of b3ta is that half of the funny stuff is low-bandwidth and the newsletter is an integral part of this because it allows you to gauge what you'd like to spend your time and bandwidth on. Hopefully the text version will come back next week because as it was this week I actually had to do some work on Friday afternoon....

# *high five*
here i go. abbreviated version.
i can understand if your religion or your own personal moral set or whathaveyou is antiabortion. fine. that's your own choice. but i cannot see how you could ever, in good conscience, say that you have the right to make that decision for someone else.
if you don't like abortion, fine. but abortion has to be legal because it's ridiculous for you to say that your choice has to be everyone's choice.
plus allowances for things like rape, physical health of the mother, etc. are not taken into account if it's made illegal.
and if it's made illegal it's going to go on happening anyways, just in less sanitary places with less qualified doctors.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:21, archived)
# *nods*
Banning abortion would lead to unwanted, abused children hated by thier parents.Id rather have a happy wanted child than 5 abused hated ones.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:22, archived)
# Don't
like abortion, Don't have one.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:26, archived)
# Exactly.
Whatever floats your boat. Just dont try and make someone else have/not have one.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:27, archived)
# Whatever floats
Myra Hindley's boat...
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:32, archived)
# Oh shh you.
Everyone is entitled to thier opinion, and if you want to look after all the unwanted children banning abortion will create then go ahead, otherwise.. shh!
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:36, archived)
# Am I
entitled to my opinion as well?
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:37, archived)
# Yes
Of course :)
I dont mind whatever you do.
Just dont reply comparing me to a murderer, gets me tetchy.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:41, archived)

I was merely pointing out the non-universal application of moral libertinism.

(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:26, archived)
# My choice is that people shouldn't kill each other
I think most people would agree that that view is enforcable when it comes to killing adults.

I'm not saying that abortion should be banned outright, for many of the problems you have outlined. But it is something I'd rather didn't happen if it is at all avoidable.

Plus saying it will still happen even if it's illegal applies to any crime you can think of. Maybe we should also legalise armed robbery.

(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:40, archived)
# Lets hear
the proabortion rant just for the sake of it!

infact part of its charm is that its so unPC.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:15, archived)

and eventually leaves you with stileproject or something

# I havnt seen anything thats
nasty yet, everything been very tounge in cheek and mostly hilarious
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:19, archived)
# as does encouraging being overly fluffy
it destroys the positive/negative reinforcement in most people, so that they do things that they normally wouldn't and shouldn't do. that's why i'm against too much fluffyness. being courtious is one thing, but being overly fluffy is one step over the line IMO
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:23, archived)
# yeah, i don't think everyone should be over fluffy,
but i'd usually be pretty much like i am anyway

and I don't think I want to. The current one is bad enough. You're right. What were they thinking?
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:16, archived)
# I'd like to think that they do think these through, but honestly, just recently anyway it seems it's all just for shock value.
/two cents

# i know that rob's not entirely pleased with this one
he mentioned it last earlier
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:18, archived)
# Rob asked a similar
question earlier. Done with taste and respect it could be okay, but I think some people go a little ott.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:18, archived)
# Tis not what Rob or them were thinking
the board's been very cruel this entire week.

It's backlash.

I dunno... it's not as bad as all that.

Gary, what didn't you like about the KKK challenge? One of my fave images comes from that challenge (hung like a n***er).
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:19, archived)
# it had some appaling image in it...
i wasn't actually posting at that point i took last summer off... but spazzing back it wasn't nice
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:20, archived)
# Precisely
people with half a brain take it as an opportunity to push their fucked up ideals/beliefs. There were some genuinely racist/boigoted entries into that comp. I know for sure that certain coloured/colored members of b3ta were insulted...and rightly so.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:25, archived)
# They
were thinking shopping pics of monksmongs/disabled people would rock, and they were right!!

# very well
I shall spazz back
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:26, archived)
# I wonder
if enough people complain, would the challenge dictator would change the challenge?
probably not, and personally i'm not bothered by it enough to make a big deal about it. just hypothetically speaking.
psrsonally, although i think there have been a good many tasteless entries, I'm not actually making them so I don't feel they have any effect on me
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:21, archived)
# Rob seemed pretty surprised this one got through
If enough people said "Enough" then I think he may well pull it.
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:25, archived)
# I say stop it
its not that offensive, just no real quality entries in it
(, Fri 2 Apr 2004, 22:28, archived)
# Lighten up
It's the internet, it's all virtual.
Real life is much nastier.
(, Sat 3 Apr 2004, 0:03, archived)
# Thank you.
All the "spacker" jokes are bad enough, but a whole compo devoted to "haw, haw, aren't retards funneh?" is a bit much.

More poorly drawn cocks and shopped kittens, STAT.
(, Sat 3 Apr 2004, 1:08, archived)
# I'm not entirely convinced
by this whole comp, so I'm not putting anything forward. It's fine to poke fun at things like the Daily Mail as we were a few weeks back, because they have the freedom to choose their beliefs. But disabled people aren't disabled by choice...

besides, I just got back from the AIUK conference and I'm in a generally anti-discrimination mood anyhow. Perhaps Rob & co could put forward suggestions for comps a week in advance and let us vote for the best, most appropriate one (and explain what problems might occur from some comps)..?
(, Sun 4 Apr 2004, 22:56, archived)
# very well then
Let's have a more PC challenge. Photoshop your best church youth group photos* or post them un-shopped if you can't be bothered.

* photos must be taken after visiting a church youth group and handing out large quantities of drugs and/or stealing their minibus.

# Whoa...
Just read this whole thread... Heavy Stuff. This week's comp has been a little crappy, looked through some of the entries and they weren't all that great. Keep the topic's simple and let people's imaginations go wild...
(, Mon 5 Apr 2004, 16:35, archived)
# hmmm
I like an amusing Deacon pic now and again, but hundreds of them?
Many of them in this challenge are not even remotely amusing or witty either.
