Welcome to b3ta! Here are some things you ought to know before posting to the board.
1. Use these: LycosUK, MSNgroups, your own server, or paid image-hosting services all work as places to store your images, but most of the free services, ie Geocities, Tripod, etc. don't.
2. Limit these: Try to keep static pictures down under 40k, and animated gifs under 200. If its bigger, please post a link to it to save the dialup users.
3. Link these: Disturbing, disgusting, pornographic-looking pictures should be linked, because members are at work in all different time zones. Also, please link any pictures you have found instead of made, we like originality.
4. Remember these: Here are the html tags for posting to the board. you can only use them in your body, not the subject
<i>italic</i>
<b>bold</b>
<small>small</small>
<pre>
<img src="http://www.website.com/yourpicture.jpg"> image
<a href="http://www.website.com/webpage.html" target="blank">text/picture</a>hyperlink
most & commands work, too, < yields <, and so on
5. We have these: there is a preview button while editing your post, so you can see what your post will look like on the board, and Edit and Delete buttons once you post if you made a mistake.
For more information on these, and other important areas, take a look at the FAQ
Remember, common sense and courtesy go a long way. Thanks for joining, have fun posting!

maybe make list format rather than sentences?
we learned that was a good thing in tech writing
i.e.
Hosts that WILL work:
LycosUK
MSN groups
Hosts that will NOT work:
tripod
geocities
and so on...
maybe it's just me, but I really think the real problem is that people don't want to read. They just want to have the information right there where they can see it :)

To be honest, when I first came here I read just enough of the faq to figure out how to get my first picture online. I don't think I've ever been back to it.

but didn't really understand it.
If it hadn't been for the fluffy board regulars who were around at that point, I probably would have left :)
Which is why people should be fluffy to newbies :)

because it seems that at any one time on the board there are usually least 6 things that deserve it, and I don't want to post it everywhere.

that is a tricky problem
which is why I usually only use mine when it's salient to something in the post.

of greatly reducing the colours in the palette and turning off dither. You can take it even further than this by reducing the colours even more. It creates some really interesting effects, similar to what the cutout plugin does, but with much more control over the palette.
