Stir Crazy
Made me laugh quite a bit, and it's got Richard Pryor in it.

I have a piss poor attention span, and so it takes a lot to hold my attention.
However, Still Crazy, was an awesome film.
Tim Spall, Jimmy Nail, Bill Nighy, Billy Connelly, etc...
Had an awesome soundtrack as it was about a dysfunctional 70s rock band who broke up after a poor festival appearance. 30 years later, they start to reform.
Very funny.
I'm also disgracefully in tune with The Big Lebowski. The Dude is very much an idol of mine. And that rug? It really tied the room together, you know?
Also, I'm a big fan of "Without A Clue" starring Sir Micheal Caine and Sir Ben Kingsley as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson respectively. Its just a fantastic film.
Edit: Forgot the Ealing Studio classics. The Lavender Hill Mob being a particular favourite.

Two
Way stretch - Peter Sellers, Bernard Cribbens, and Liz Frazer in a splendid prison/robbery romp! Remember being off sick from school and watching this. Others to mention are Whisky Galore and Arsenic and Old Lace.
Still superb films.

Hmmm, let me see...
Das Boot - Interesting to see WW2 from the other side
Full Metal Jacket - I love this film. Packed with characters like Private Pyle and Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:
"I will gouge out your eyes and skull-fuck you!"
Hard to believe it was filmed in Norfolk and the London Docklands.
Naked Gun - I've only got to see Leslie Neilson and I start laughing.
Terminator 1 & 2 - Films I could watch over and over.
Blues Brothers - thought it was crap the first time I watched it but enjoyed it more and more after that.

Shindler's List..
... I was disappointed. "A real tissue film", that's what they said about it.
Utter shit, I only wanked once. Well, there was a shower scene.
((Jimmy Carr))
Yay, first post.

Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt)
I must have watched it more than ten times, but it's so ridiculously clever and well thought out that I notice something new every time.

Ah
No question, no question at all. There is only one. Its an utterly perfect film. It ticks all the boxes.
Made in the 80's with 80's stylin? Check
Tom Cruise? Check
F-14 Tomcats? Fuck yeah.
Ladies and gents, Top Gun. The Greatest Film of All Time.
Yes its gayer than Elton Johns cock but that just adds to gloriousness of it.
Accept no substitute.

I can't believe..
...I've only seen one mention of Brazil so far! I love some of the popular choices on here, Bladerunner (directors cut for me please), 12 angry men, Layer cake and Leon etc but one of my favourites over all is Death in Venice, a beautiful film with a simple Mahler soundtrack. It is a slow film, no action as such, but I can't stop watching. At the opposite end of the scale I think Clue is a classic comedy with Tim Curry as the butler always gives me a giggle!

Some good Fillums
Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens) - unbelieveably good Argentine film about conmen in Buenos Aires - buy it.
All Quiet On The Western Front (1930) - powerful anti-war film
Paths of Glory - a 1957 Kubrick film with Kirk Douglas - excellent film, again anti-war, set in the trenches in 1916.
Central Station - a Brazilian film about a letter writer in Rio's Central Station who befriends an orphaned boy and takes him to find his father in northern Brazil.
Meet The Feebles... not sure I can describe this one. Think The Muppets meets Trainspotting.
The Good The Bad and The Ugly - to my mind one of the best films ever made.
Zombie Strippers. They're strippers. Who are Zombies. Low budget and over the top... not the best film I've ever seen but it has its, erm, charms.

Lots of people like the vengeance trilogy but the best Korean films are just devestatingly sad.
1. Brotherhood- the story of two brothers fighting in the Korean war. Don't want to spoil it. It will make you cry.
2. JSA- about the relationship between the soldiers on the north and south sides of the border.
Watching either of these films will result in severe dehydration as all of your bodily fluids erupt from your tear ducts.
Both of these are films on my list of "brilliant but will never ever watch again". I just can't cope with them.

Human Traffic - my favourite Brit Flick, probably best film ever imho
I know most critics and magazines slated this movie but it was my "coming of age" film. I could relate to all the things in the film, except the copious drug taking of course - I'm a good boy! :o)

Two fantastic flops...
The classic Troll 2: anyone who has seen this will understand; my copy cost £1, which truly reflects how much it is worth. Despite it being terribly acted, written, funded, made etc., it is hilarious because of it.
More recently discovered the joy of Mammoth. It was frozen in a museum, until a UFO launched a meteor-thing which reanimated it, which then proceeds to go on a rampage.
Both must-sees if you like crap films!

Favourite film ever
Singin' in The Rain. It's feel good, it's funny, it's clever, yeah it's a musical but it's kick ass awesome. And Gene Kelly was a gorgeous hunk of man.

The second half of Deathproof
by Quentin Tarentino rocks. It's so girl power! Planet Terror, the other part of Grindhouse is good too, if you like end of life as we know it movies.
Also good - The Science of Sleep starring Gael Garcia Bernal, funny and sweet and sad
and
Time Masters, a French cartoon I saw once when I was a child and I will never forget. Watch it if you can find it!

I watch far too many films.
And I tend to like them wierd. Asian (Korean and japanese) horror, and Chinese Triad movies tend to make up the rest of my cinematic diet through. Listed below is random selection of films i love.
Amores Perros - Very well shot twisting collection of stories that i'm sure Tarrotino is planning to rip off any day soon.
Y tu mamá también - A troubled woman takes two boys on the road trip of thier lives. Uplifting and moving in equal parts.
Dead or Alive: Hanzaisha - In fact the whole Miike Takeshi Yakuza trilogy.
Blade Runner - Simply a classic. I acturly have a Korean remake called "Natural City" sat waiting to be watched.
Pi - From the same director as Requiem for a dream. Twisted tense thriller.
Ichi the Killer - Miike Takeshi's dark comic masterpiece of a brainwashed contract killer trying to deal with life. Some classic gore hound moments in it too.
Battle Royal - First one is a classic. Ignore the sequel.
The Eye - The pang brothers original made me jump out of my skin in the cinema. Avoiding the American remake like the plague.
Videodrome - David Cronenberg's early 80's classic about brainwashing via the media. James woods in the man.
Cube - All of them work but the original shows just what can be done on a budget of nothing. Amazing paceing and script.
Requiem for a Dream - Dark and has a very real impact on you. Should be seen at least once.
Audition - Another Miike film. a 80 min love story followed by a 15 min twist. You'll see in coming, but the impact is still hard hitting.
True Romance - Tarrotinos finest script writting. The Walken and Hopper exchange is a fine cinema moment.
The Warriors - Style over substance in this new york gangser flick. Good fun through.
Dark City - Interesting cast, and strange "Humans as aliens playthings" story line. Atmospheric in a way that "The Matix" could have been.
The Happiness of the Katakuris - The sound of Music meets errr. Somthing with a lot of blood. random family keeps having it's hotel guest die on them. Oh and they sing alot.
Reservoir Dogs - Enough said.
Bangkok Dangerous - Pang brothers deaf mute hitman trys to discover love. Getting remaid now. Go watch the orignal through.
Event Horizon - Horror sci-fi classic that surpasses aliens for me.
Wild Zero - A music video director who hates making movies, creates a horror/zombie/alien/romcom flick with a 50's throw back and a lady boy featuring J-rock legends "Guitar Wolf". Errr Bonkers.
Oldboy - Well any of the vengence trilogy, but this one's proberly the finest. The fight scene in the corridor is quality too. Surposed to be getting a remake i belive. Shoot me now.
Hmmm. What was the question again. Recomend one film? Damn. I may have over shot. How about I recomend one director "Miike Takeshi"?

I don't enjoy watching it, but
Schindler's List.
I find it always makes me cry buckets, despite the fact that I rarely cry at films. The acting is top notch, Ralph Fiennes is superb, chills you to the core. The cinematography is honed down to the finest detail with the use of colour so effective. The script is flawless, something Spielberg doesn't always manage.
But it is the subject matter that breaks me the most. The simplicity of the fact that all these people were dying for no reason other than they were Jews, and this happened in our grandparents' lifetime. This wasn't some relic from the Middle Ages. This was here and now for many people still alive today. The fact that this film tackles such a sensitive subject in such an effective way is its greatest strength.
How anyone can watch this film and not be moved is beyond me. Simply stunning.

Braindead
Best zombie movie ever.
Much blood and guts and killing of zombies with a lawnmower.
The whole being sucked back into your giant zombie mother's womb and having to hack your way out is a bit disturbing. But in a good way.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the Eighth Dimension
It's just the most irreverent, intelligent film ever to come out of the mainstream Hollywood blockbuster conveyor belt. No one really seems to understand just how important it is as a film, and how it takes conventional superhero narrative and utterly turns it on its head. It's the kind of film that could never, ever get made again, and I love it. And it's just utterly bonkers.

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet...
Idiocracy. Perhaps the most biting satire I've ever encountered. The opening montage is one of the funniest yet scariest chunks of film there is, anywhere.
The concept is that the intelligent people are being out-bred by the morons. A man with an IQ of exactly 100 is put in suspended animation and is accidentally awakened 500 years from now, and is now the smartest person on the planet.
Apparently 20th Century Fox gave Mike Judge the green light, having been told only what I wrote above, but when they saw what he had created they got seriously cold feet. The film was minimally advertised, ran in theaters for one week and then vanished. The DVD came out soon after, and it has turned out to be a pretty successful little flick despite Fox's chickenitis.
Highly recommended.

Equilibrium
This film kicks the Matrix (which it has been compared to but I think is only superficially similar) in the bollocks and nicks its dinner money, with the added bonus that Bale can actually act.
If you haven't seen it, think a dash of Fahrenheit 451, a sprig of 1984 and a whole bucket of arse kickery.

now that i've dealt with my urge to post i'll give you a list...
because there can be no single favourite. we are, after all human and thus in a constant state of flux!
in no particular order...
i love films...
almost as much as i love music and food (and littlebabymonkeychopsblaireau69)...
bad taste and braindead by m jackson for the gratuitous gore and amazing colonial nz feel.
silent running cos i get goosebumps remembering the first time i saw it.
this is spinal tap. "shark sandwich? shit sandwich"
all 3 bourne films. imagine if jb and kylie had kids?
le samourai starring alain delon, just so fucking cool. the scene where he robs the citroen. fantastically cool.
the limey with stampo, see previous post.
fear is the key with barry newman, see previous post.
whisky galore. just plain brilliant.
american psycho with christian bale. running naked down the corridor with that shiney chrome chainsaw in his hand. and wearing the see-through pac-a-mac indoors...
akira. WOW! is it really a 20 years? jeepers.
subway with christophe lambert, way before highlander. and way before he became christopher.
kung-foo hustle. love it.
battle royale. kids being forced to kill each other. certainly not british, wouldn't need to force them...
plein soleil with alain delon, first film of the talented mr ripley and so beautifully shot.
the conversation with gene hackman. also has a very young harrison ford playing a slimey twat. if you like surveillance and tech then you'll love this one.
28 days later. gore. grrr. !
and many more.
i feel another list coming on...
