Keyboard trauma
Well, trauma might be pushing it. "Mild irritation"...

Does anyone know how to (or even if it's possible to) swap the '"' and the '@' on a mac keyboard so that you press SHIFT+2 for inverted commas?

Abbey National
Are a bunch of cunts.

They have charged me in the past few months over £100 in overdraft charges because their system is entirely fucked.

I hate them.

And to make it worse, im told I can't cancel my account until the 'fees has been paid' I ALREADY PAID THEM.

I need to sit down.

can anyone help?
i've never been much of an emotional chap,so when first year of uni came round i bid a cheery goodbye to my parents and set off in my own, independent way.
now that second year has rolled around and fallen off,i find that i'm getting progressively more attached to my home and family.leaving after summer was pretty hard, and coming away after christmas is tougher still.
isn't that wrong?aren't you supposed to grow less attached as time goes by?

He's 10 days late so I'm guessing he'll be a wrinkly little bugger!

Not so much the fluff...
Folks, I just wanted to pass along a bit of sad news. One of our own has lost his father.

Abefroman, who hasn't been posting much lately, passed along the obituary to me. I'll let him decide if he wants to post it or not, but meanwhile please keep him and his family in your thoughts- he's one of the nicest guys on the board and has been a good friend to me, and he's feeling very down at the moment as one would expect.

And if you happen to know him offline, please buy him a pint from me.

*pfffft*
I'm shopping for a new pendant for Mr Maladicta for Valentine's Day at the moment (as I sort of might have lost his old one that he loved to bits) and came across this one:

gothic.co.uk/acatalog/info_AGP478.html

I'm half tempted to buy it for him it just to see if he gets it...

FLUFF: Pets thread
We just adopted a minature schnauzer puppy. My wife named her Pookie, which is a sickeningly-cute name.

ROFFLESWAN
I may have misheard this, it sounded so silly but on the radio traffic report this morning apparently there was disruption on the M11, as a combination of ice and sun made it look like a lake from the air, causing swans to attempt to land on the middle of the motorway. The idea of this made me chuckle.

Anyone know if this is true, or were my ears twisting things into something completely inane?

Interesting
My kid is watching a Horton Hears a Who DVD. She and her sister have watched this video countless times in the last 2 weeks while I have yet to actually pay attention to the movie.

However, I just looked up and heard the line, "In my world all the people are horses. They eat rainbows and poop butterflies."

Genius. I must watch this movie now.

Driving me fucking crackers
I'd been hearing a song on the radio for weeks and it was driving me crackers because it sounded like an 80's rock song. Something like John Parr's St Elmo's Fire crossed with something by Survivor.

It wasn't. It was Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon. I was convinced it was some 80's rock song.

Anybody else see what I'm getting at? Or am I just a bit mad for making such a ridiculous comparison.

Increasing my appeal the fairer sex.

The Spirit
Before I went to see this film there were several things that I'd heard about it.
"It's kinda like Sin City", which is a very good thing.
"Frank Miller wrote/adapted/directed it", which sounded good too.

How wrong I was...
This film was a dirty, black and white pile of shit, complete with steaming red nuggets.
"It's based on a comic", seemed to pretty much be the tag-line.
I'd never read the comic, but however good it is, this cinematic colostomy-bag has tainted it forever.

Ok... So, now I've established that this film should never be watched by anyone, ever, I'll get on with some explanation.

Bad points:

- The Main Character. Fucking hell... I'm amazed that they were able to capture the essence of Jude "all the women love me, I'm such a handsome, charming rogue" Law, and combine it with a smug-factor of 200. Oh, and they made him invincible. So a smarmy, smug bastard, who can't be killed. Fucking great.

-The Plot. Two boxes, two villains. They each get the wrong box. Fighting ensues. The end.
Hmmm... I think the comic they based this on was about three pages long, and one of them was a full page picture of The Spirit looking smug while a woman swoons at him.

-The Dialogue. I think that George Lucas must've got involved somehow. It was that bad.

Good points:

+ Samuel L. Jackson wasn't that bad. Actually, he might have been, but he seemed like he was having fun, and he was a hell of a lot better than everyone else.

+ Some of the "Black-and-white-with-bits-of-red" shots looked pretty nice. But they just felt like a cheap version of Sin City. So I'd rather just watch that.

So... My rating for this film is 2/10.
I wouldn't recommend watching it ever, under any circumstances.
Unless it's a choice between this or Pearl Harbour.

Zombie Strippers
Tomorrow night is usually the night that the missus goes out (I do Fridays) so tomorrow nights viewing is 'Zombie Strippers'

Zombies = Ace!
Stippers = Fantastic!

I expect to be bitterly disappointed therefore I have 'OutPost' as a backup.

Nazi films - Interesting
Zombies = Ace!

I expect that this will also be a bit pants so may have to revert to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Please don't call me an ignorant racist.
I would like to have a reasoned debate here if people are interested.

It has to do with population control.

I am interested in the size of the human population on earth (as opposed to the other planets).

This most recent article precipitated my posting here:

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7817684.stm

Is there an imperative at this stage to look at population control?

Or am I merely an ignorant racist?

Just wondering
I'm thinking of backpacking towards the end of next year (like novemberish), and I was wondering if anyone here is a part of Couchsurfing.com????
I'm looking at it from australia and being a fairly skintish student I'm just thinking it would be useful? I'm more then happy to do (non-sexual) things for hosts like helping with cooking and cleaning etc.

Has anyone here been back packing before (I know it's an obvious question but I wanna know!!) and if you have - any advice for me? I want to plan it all thoroughly!

Also - a question - when you get a working visa - how long does it take to get one of those? I was thinking of using my barista and bartending qualifications (once I get them) to help pay my way.

Hello.
I mostly live on /talk and a bit on /board but I would just like to say that some of the posts I've seen on here are a little odd to say the least. Someone put up a link the other day on /talk to a post on here about sniffing his sister's knickers. Now, on /talk he would have been roasted alive but here he was congrtulated for his honesty. Well I have a little message for him.
