Oh, is this the public sector pension strikes
called by people who feel that they shouldn't have to have the same pensions cuts as private sector workers, whilst still having them paid for by private sector workers?
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:00, Reply)
That'll be the one

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:01, Reply)
Yeah, I heard about that.

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:02, Reply)
I think it's more about the fact that when they became public sector workers, they were promised somethingthat is now being taken away from them
Any other sector would understandably be a touch miffed about this.

But then, I generally don't know what I'm talking about, so I could be entirely wrong.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:09, Reply)
The private sector was promised state pensions too, up until a little while ago.
The cuts are economically necessary. That is just fact.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:10, Reply)
I can sympathise with having promises whisked away
But this happens in the private sector all the time. Cuts have to be made, my main problem is that too often cuts are made to the rank-and-file employees, whilst the heads often remain unaffected.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:19, Reply)
I just don't like being manipulated by the press, who seem to be demonising anybody who strikes.
And isn't it actually illegal for some public sector workers to strike? That seems grossly unfair.

Life is grossly unfair
The press can fuck off 'n' all, hateful scare-mongering cunts.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:29, Reply)
I work in the public sector
my big boss is on 370k a year, that's more than double the PM ladies and gentlemen, I bet she isn't getting a pension cut.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:39, Reply)
the private sector cuts shouldn't have happened either
but private sector don't have as many unions

Speaking as a socialist.
Yes they should. Unless you want the entire economy to fall apart on its wizened, overstretched arse.

They were in trouble even before the recession.

If communication has broken down, and it actually gets people to listen, then yes.
It really only works if everyone joins in, though. It's been over 80 years since the General Strike. I say it's about time we had another.

Alt: filthy scab!

It rarely changes anything though
we're just not very good at it in this country. People bunk off for a week or two then when their demands aren't met, shuffle back to their jobs saying 'Oh. Okay then'.
The French know how to strike.

Was it Wimbledon yesterday berk?
If so. How was it.

It was lovely
I had a wonderful day. Sadly however today has kicked me nicely in the knackers and brought me back down to earth with a nasty bump.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:13, Reply)
Is somebody grumping again?

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:16, Reply)
No, not at all
I started applying for a job I had a very good chance of getting, had met the team involved...logged on this morning to discovered they'd closed the vacancy 10 days early due to overwhelming response. I rang the woman I'd met and she sounded genuinely upset but said there was nothing she could do.
I have still not heard anything from the applications I made earlier in the month, despite thinking I had a good chance of getting at least two interviews.
there may have been a minor bedroom-based mishap last night which has made me feel very inadequate and stupid. But there was no grumping.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:21, Reply)
Oh that sucks.
Your bedroom mishap, was that more or less embarrassing than, for example, your fellow pulling out to change position and accidentally jizzing in your hair?*

*I totally haven't done this.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:22, Reply)
She said "made me feel very inadequate and stupid"
Which makes me think she thought 'blow job' was literal, and inflated his foreskin like a balloon.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:24, Reply)
that's no how it works?
I mean HAHAHA, that would be stupid!
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:27, Reply)
No
me mistakenly thinking he'd come and stopping doing what I was doing, and then having a massive flounce/strop and embarrassing myself further when I realised he hadn't. I have no confidence in my ability to do sexy things, and worse, little confidence in his ability not to judge me for being rubbish*

*NB, I'm probably being massively paranoid and unfair here.

Might I say that I think
you're being massively paranoid and unfair here.

Like was it that thing, y'know...

Did you get to watch any tennis, or did you spend the day watching the big screen, eating strawberries and drinking Pimms?

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:20, Reply)
Watched loads of tennis
most of it on court rather than on screen, no strawberries (brought a picnic, and they were obscenely overpriced) but I did have some Pimms. And it was lovely and sunny.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:22, Reply)
Well that sounds like a lovely day.
Glad you enjoyed it.

I wasn't queueing for 4 hours to get tickets for the show courts!

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:12, Reply)
They should
1) disband and make illegal the fucking trades fucking unions, halve their pay and kick their fucking teeth in
2) flog Bob Crow et al in front of the Tower of London
3) make me Steppenfuhrer of the 4th Reich
4) PROFITEROLES
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:18, Reply)
While 1-3 are completely against my beliefs (especially 3)
I support this if you can guarantee profiteroles

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:28, Reply)
The collective trades union shoudln't be disbanded
but they should have to present an alternative to the action they're striking against that at least shows willingness to understand the problem rather than just stamping their feet and shouting "WAAA DONT WANNA"

My uncle thinks 'cockneys' eat profiteroles all the time when they're drunk, and then get lairy.
Whenever those police reality shows are on and some vaguely southern folk are fighting in a car park, he puts on his best Alf Garnet voice and proclaims "What d'you expect? They've been on the pruh-fi-er-owwwls!"
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:21, Reply)
Is your uncle fully off his box, or merely mental?

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:23, Reply)
He doesn't officially have any special needs.
But we do make a lot of fun of him among the family.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:27, Reply)
That is downright odd.

(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:24, Reply)
He's an odd lad.
On the one hand he goes out with his mates, is quite your average 'cheeky scouser' and on the other, he watches Coronation Street with his mum.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:29, Reply)
Bob Crow is a powerhungry fucking idiot, he starts up industrial action on the outcome of tribunals that haven't even been completed yet.
He's like the Nick Griffin of Trade Unions.
(, Thu 30 Jun 2011, 11:26, Reply)
If Bob Crow wanted to be a hero in london, they should strike by opening up all the oyster gates for a few hours and let people use the tube for free.
