Remakes
I'm quite excited for the new vision of Evil Dead. The poster boasts that it will be "The most terrifying film you will ever see". Same producers and looks like they've made it less slapstick.
Also, new Carrie is said to be closer to the novel and has been superbly casted.

From the not too bad Texas Chainsaw to the genre raping Nightmare on Elm Street what are your favourite and worst remakes of movies.

Alt. Same for cover songs. I love Placebo's version of Where Is My Mind

Go!

Alt: my pal Richard bullied Brian Molko until he cried at a party once.
Best cover songs: Led Zeppelin's entire output*, 'Black Betty' by Ram Jam, 'Give Her a Great Big Kiss' by the New York Dolls, Hendrix's covers (Dylan, Troggs, Beatles, Chuck Berry etc), 'Tomorrow Never Knows' by the Pink Fairies, there are fucking millions.

Special mention goes to Psychic TV: their covers of 'Are You Experienced' (with the vocals by Genesis P Orridge's 12 year old daughter) and the Button Moon theme are easily two of the most truly unsettling songs I have heard.

*this is a very 'knowing, blues expert wanker' comment. I'm one of those, you know.

As a martial arts film collector I have two distinct viewpoints.
The modern, big-budget epics need to be in Chinese and subtitled for gravitas. However proper old-skool kung fu films have to be overdubbed for that vintage experience.

Since that's the case, I actually didn't mind the Tom Cruise version any more than I minded the 50s version.

I re-read the book recently and it'd make an excellent film without changing location or time period. There are some wonderful set pieces in there that'd be brilliant on screen.

I haven't seen it

But you agree the remake is superior?

To the 50s version?

i'm going to see that "silver linings" film tonight
with bradley cooper, aka mr swipe, in it.

the book is always better than the film. FACT.

Indeed, because the book encourages you to use your imagination, whereas the film mostly doesn't .

it's also the bits they cut out
i understand they have to, because otherwise the film would be 10 hours long, but it still sucks my ass

unlike bradley cooper, sadly

But won't Brad already know how it ends
