That poverty is more than just absolute poverty and the social implications of thatcherite policies are not benign because some quality of life indicators have gone up.
I also do thinkt that we are still feeling the effect of her prime ministership, but I wouldn't go as far as to say we're still suffering from it.

I would imagine it's improved since 1900 as well, this is called progress. I'm not saying life has gotten worse over all. I'm saying she did things I fundamentally disagree with, changed the way we do politics irrevocably for the worse and I think we'd be in a better place as a nation now had she been strangled at birth.

Not really done that, but I take it as a fair point.As for being voted in, well I can (and sometimes do) support the democratic process without liking the people that get elected. I reckon at most I have to follow the laws they create, but I think not speaking against them is actually counter to the point of democracy.

In part I am glad she's dead, yes.it's immature and I know that strictly speaking In should not be happy about anyone's death, be they even as bad as Hitler, to pick, the most extreame example I can think of, but I am not that saintly.

And at no point did I claim she was personally responsible for torturebut if you think it's totally acceptable for the US government to carry out torture I think that's pretty evil, with no watering down of the word at all.
If you have the power to dictate that an entire country will condemn the actions of a leader who orders mass murder and torture and you not only don't condemn them, but instead support them fully and help to avoid being held to account, then I also think that's evil.

Both the US and Pinochet's regieme have carried out acts with are, by both of our agreements, evil. Both were supported by UK governments. So, therefore, if we agree that supporting those that carry out acts of evil are evil themselves, then Thatcher is evil. As are Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron.
I still think you're diluting the value of "evil" here though. But hey, that's my opinion and right, just like it's yours to celebrate the death of a senile old woman.
