Austerity bites hard...I've been trying to make things appear more stencil-like too

If you start with Gimp, then Photoshop is shit.And vice versa. They are about as good as each other for what we use them for. So it really does depend on what you are used to.

ConfuddlementI find they are both as confusing as each other in totally different ways. Can be quite a steep curve into either product. It amazes me how fast some people on this board throw something together.
Try www.getpaint.net/ as that is free and simpler.
Or a true artist uses MS Paint.
