What load of old tosh are you 'digging' today? And why should I listen to it instead of Davie Allan on constant repeat?
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:41, 261 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I can't dig any old tosh until lunchtime
As I'm not at my desk and apparently we don't look like helpful librarians if we're wearing earphones.

are you a Librarian Roota?

I managed 57 seconds of that before I had to stop it.
I am "digging" wearing brand new socks and finding a tenner in a pair of jeans.

(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:52, Reply)
which is better though, new shoes or new socks?

(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:53, Reply)
New socks. New shoes can be painful to break in.

Yep,
My feet are covered with blisters at the moment.

I was more referring to new trainers/skate shoes
I find a new pair of skate shoes to be a very pleasant thing.

Any shoes by Church's, Timothy West or Loake are very painful for about 3 months.

I take it
you are not referring to 'I Can't Wait' by Nu Shooz?
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:55, Reply)
I am also not referring to the song New Shoes by Paulo Nutini
as I knew you were wondering.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:57, Reply)
I love him so much.
I like the way his vocal style is in no way affected, just sung in his natural Paisley way.

I also like the way he doesn't sing like he's been blind from birth and is crippled by rickets.

The majority of my day is spent audio typing
so multitasking with music would kind of hinder that.

and I'm not concentrating I sometimes type what someone has said so that could well happen!

i do that all the time
when on the phone - i write random words from the conversation all over my notepad and doodle them. usually it's things like "overage" and "specificity" but if i'm gossiping it can be foolish to leave it lying around.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:03, Reply)
haha I do that too, I write things from the conversation that seem like they're important
but then when it comes to relaying the message later obviously it makes fuck all sense whatsoever.

I do the reverse of dress-down Friday.
It's called Frocky Friday and I wear heels and nice dresses and stff. Why should Friday be scruffy? (Unless you HAVE to be smart all the time.)
We don't have a dress code here but I've never been comfortable dressing casual so I'm generally in skirts/dresses and sometimes smart kecks.

Given the choice I would happily sit and listen to bands as suggested by Monty (or in fact most of the people on here). I like nothing better than getting excited about some new music.

I've got b3ta to thank for some of my very favourite bands.

But mostly classical now. I'm going to see "The Magic Flute" next week.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:01, Reply)
I like Blondie and The Ramones
That's something.

I love The Magic Flute, but never went to see it. I've been in The Swam's Lake (maybe it's called different in English) in an old greek theatre in Barcelona, and it was great.

I saw Carmen a few months ago
A French opera set in Spain. What's that all about?
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:12, Reply)
Oh, yes
I saw that one as well, and found it very disturbing, as it seems it's kind of ok to kill Carmen, as she was cheating... strange.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:14, Reply)
Yeah, that shocked me too
Ok, she was a gypsy-slag-wagon, but did she deserve such a violent end?

Probably (I mean, "No, of course not")
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:17, Reply)
Yeah
The moral of the story is not very good. But eh, it was made by a French, what were you expecting?

The Ramones are one of the best bands of all time.
Ever seen 'End of the Century'? Excellent, funny and incredibly sad all at once.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:04, Reply)
But all their songs are essentially the same...
"One two THREE FOUR!" followed by 2 minutes of "Da na na na na NAAHHH, Da na na na na NAHHH"

But I like them.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:11, Reply)
If the one song you do is fucking brilliant then keep doing it, I say.
To write songs a simplistic as theirs is actually deceptively hard to do, as well.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:25, Reply)
I really dislike Blondie
and I'm not entirely sure why. I think it's because I find the music really average and yet lots of people rate it.

classical stuff is good. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Marriage of Figaro.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:04, Reply)
Blondie fills me with nostalgia for my childood (and other emotions that are different and strange)
I know they're shit, but their music fires the pleasure receptors in my brain.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:09, Reply)
She was incredibly beautiful.
Their records are 'meh'.

(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:02, Reply)
Yep, I like listening to new music
but, again, I can't listen to music at work, so I can't comment on anything anyone above is saying, as I don't know a single one of those. In other music threads, I've participated saying the music I like, but nobody here knows them and it's a bit of a monologue that gets boring after a while.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 9:59, Reply)
You see? Exactly like this
Everytime there's a music thread, I talk to myself only.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:13, Reply)
Yes, I know what you mean
It's like if nobody else could read what you write when you're talking about music. It's so weird. I wonder why it happens.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:31, Reply)
Yes let's threadjack!
Three of my pole girls are deliberately flouting my Halloween rules and dressing as bunnies.

What is the worst costume you've ever seen? When I was in a pub a couple of years ago on Halloween some kids came in wearing binliners and those rubbish 50p plastic masks. They had a tupperware box that they were taking round and saying 'Trick or Treat' for money. What surprised me most was that there was dickloads of money in the sodding box! Little shits.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:07, Reply)
In Liverpool we had scally kids come round with a shit 'Guy'
In mid October! And they were asking for a "Quid for the guy". Fucking inflation...
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:11, Reply)
With kids now though
instead of 'TPing your house' they'll probably set fire to your car.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:13, Reply)
Tru tru
The little shits.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:15, Reply)
Did they ever have Mischief Night around your way?
The stupid little village idiots did it where I used to live, they did stuff like spraying silly string on your house, spraying shaving mousse under your car door handles and even putting black electrical tape on registration numbers so that Ls would be Es and stuff.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:21, Reply)
No
And it sounds like a wanky version of Devil's Night from The Crow.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:24, Reply)
yeah pretty much
it was annoying, I got the shaving foam under the car door thing and they put washing up liquid over the ends of my windscreen washer caps so it was foamy for a while.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:30, Reply)
Haha
That's a great idea, I might do that. Sounds cheap and easy (the binliners, not the bunnies)

The worst costume I've seen was in Carnival in Tenerife. We were teenagers and trying to be sexy (we were very, very bad girls). One of our friends kept saying she had the best dress ever, and it was a surprise, and we were all expecting something very cheeky. Then she appeared dressed as Donald Duck. A full, massive duck, you know, like a mascott dress, you could only see her eyes, and she was a meter taller than anyone else. It was really weird and she could barely moved. The Carnaval in Tenerife is similar to Brazil's and you won't see anyone wearing that.

She couldn't see and walk properly, so ended up falling on a pool of pee, and crying because her great dress was ruined and went back home. Poor girl.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:12, Reply)
the bunnies will no doubt be cheap and easy as well!
haha poor girl, it's like in Mean Girls when she goes to Halloween dressed as a zombie and everyone else is wearing really slutty stuff.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:14, Reply)
Well, she knew
We'd been telling her we were going to wear very slutty devil dresses, red and very sort, showing almost everything, not a lot left for imagination. And she comes as Donald Duck. We pissed ourselves laughing. I know it's wrong, but...

I don't feel like going as a bunny... I'm not so proud of my body. I want something big and not tight, so the binlinen sounds good.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:18, Reply)
My entire lower half is going to be covered in pink fluff so I won't be looking particularly sexy either!

(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:22, Reply)

I'm going to dig out something. Luckily Mark is on his stag do that weekend, so I should have time to go shopping and find something to wear.

Nothing today, not allowed music in the office
Although yesterday I listened to a band I've not heard in a couple of years - CKY. Still got some cracking tunes.

Because you should listen/watch Dave Allen instead.

EDIT: Also, I require a little help today, I moved most of my stuff out last night, the landlord has said we're allowed to go in Saturday morning, and empty the rest of the furniture, as all buyers fell through, and we didn't have time to get a van. Now, before then, he's going to do an inspection of the property, and I assume he'll be taking money out of the security deposit for cleaning and minor damage. Am I within my rights to enquire for receipts of these costs, and challenge him if he takes too much from my deposit?

I'm pretty sure he has to check with you before he removes anything from the security deposit
he's not allowed to just get a cleaning firm and then tell you how much it costs, he has to give you a quote and you have to agree it. My last landlord got really expensive cleaners without asking us so we disputed it and got quite a bit back from them.

other classics are 'L'Ecole du Micro d'Argent' by IAM and 'Suprême NTM' by Suprême NTM.

I'll check that shit out.
My friends went on a Jazz tour to Spain in... '07? There was a festival on the beach that got destroyed by strong winds, and they were headlining. So my friends heard a few songs before everyone almost died, fell in love, and imported them into my friendship group.

Played it to some people down here, everyone loves them except my housemate, who dubbed them "gypsy dubstep".
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:46, Reply)
Pfft, gypsy dubstep
The whole electro swing is something I've only just gotten in to, I went to a vintage fair a couple of weeks ago and they had that CD playing. I went round nearly every stall trying to find it's owner! It's a fantastic compilation if you like that kind of thing. Tracks 1, 6 and 18 are probably my favourites.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:52, Reply)
I may just invest in my own copy.
Suzy and We Can Dance are definitely my favourite songs of theirs, though.

I do not know if I have anything tradeworthy. If there's anything you've been looking for I'll see if I have it, but it's highly unlikely.

That's alright, it doesn't have to be a trade!
If you feel particularly strongly about it, surprise me with something obscure that you really like and I'll give it a listen. But either way, it's fine :)

fairly similar to mine, although I think you suit darker better! I just looked ill when I dyed mine dark...(and like a twat when I dyed it pink, orange etc...)

Ah, my luminous stage...
What Monty so kindly refers to as my "demented clown" hair and Crow slighlty more nicely as my "Sunburst" hair (He took one look at me and said he had a guitar with that colouration. It was white at the roots and a dirty brown-orange at the ends, with various colours in between)
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:56, Reply)
It was fucking horrible.
As your friend and elder, I feel I am allowed to say this.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:58, Reply)
I liked how it showed up in pictures as highlighter orange though

(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 10:59, Reply)
It was an interesting look
sadly my hair reacts badly to most hair dyes - when I dyed it blonde it went orange, brown it went orange, red it went purple, purple it went sort of a red-black, etc etc... so if I get it done I go to the salon now. However it costs about £70 so I haven't bothered for a long while!
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 11:03, Reply)
I've been yellow, orange, very black, dark brown, sort of reddish brown, purple, and hyena coloured.
I liked the black/dark brown best.

My mother has forbidden me from dyeing my hair myself, so I have to wait to go home... Bleh.
(, Thu 14 Oct 2010, 11:06, Reply)
