I'm back from the pub
Congrats to DJTP and Roota.

Anyone still awake?

I might have some toast - should I put jam, honey or marmite on it?
(, Fri 12 Nov 2010, 23:33, 222 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
jam
but not marmalade. You can't marmalade your cock up your mother's ass

how many cats/dogs do you have?

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:01, Reply)
Two permanent cats
Two peripatetic dogs. They're owned jointly between me and my sister and live in either of our houses (a mile apart) depending on who is going to be walking them.

They are satisfied with this arrangement.

Do they realise they get spoilt?
What with two bithdays and christmases?
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:07, Reply)

Most days are Christmas for dogs.

The only days that aren't have fireworks in them. Mr Brown hates fireworks.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:12, Reply)

i'd love a dog, but when you work/party the hours i do, it's impossible. this would work for me.

Let the grief subside
Then gradually reconsider.

Think of the years of happiness and companionship, not the brief period of loss.

I have to restrain myself from rescuing every distressed cat I hear about. Two is enough, and they get on very well.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:13, Reply)
He has
it's not him I'm miserable about, it's the boyf/ex. My brain has been sticking it's fingers in it's ears and going LA LA LA for the past few days, and it's hit me this evening that I'm ending a nearly two year relationship with a nice guy who doesn't deserve to have his heart broken.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:16, Reply)
this will sound horrible
but it's the truth. No-one deserves to have their heart-broken. They deserve even less to have someone who stays with them to put off the hard decision.

Edit: sorry that sounded unnecessarily harsh. No-one is wrong in the situation. But you obviously don't want to be with him, so don't make it harder on you both
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:18, Reply)
You are the third person to say that to me this evening
And I know it's the truth, it's just hard - when it was good it was great, but it's just not like that any more and I don't think it ever will be.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:19, Reply)
then it's time to walk away
don't wait until it's dead and you hate each other. There are few things I regret more than staying with one of my boyfriends because I didn't want to hurt him. By the end I felt guilty for not wanting to be with him, and he got entangled more deeply than he would have if I'd ended it as soon as I knew I didn't want anything more

It's better to walk away while you can still have dignity and still care about each other, because it's less painful in the long run, and it's kinder all round.

We were really good together. What if I don't find someone else I can be like that with?
/whine
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:42, Reply)
well it's your choice
but personally I think you're too young to settle. You have serious doubts or you wouldn't be flirting/wanting someone else in a more than casual way. Is 'good enough' actually what you want?

*boring own life example again* I could have a boyfriend if I wanted. I know that. If I was content for him to be ugly, with an IQ of 40 and BO. It's a question of having the person you want or what you'll agree to have
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:44, Reply)
Okay.
Reality.

Maybe you have. But. And this is the point. You were unhappy, for whatever reason, you were unhappy.

People don't just 'upgrade' the subconscious is always working. For whatever reason, your head was telling you to get out of that relationship, and sad though it maybe, you've done it. You might feel more unhappy now than you did before, but it is done.

I know just how upset I was when I ended my marriage even though it wasn't working and there was no chance of making it work. It is a major life event. It will hurt, even if you've ended it for the right reason.

Don't feel guilty. It is, sadly, life.

If you have made a mistake, you'll get over it. In time. If you haven't, then you'll get over it a lot quicker and you've a lot of fun ahead of you.

We make our own decisions, don't let these decisions depress you.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:46, Reply)
Sensible answer is sensible
especially for you, Jeff. I do know that it's probably for the best, for everyone concerned. I'm still going to be all maudlin and stuff for a while though.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:56, Reply)
Hey.
berk - it is the unfortunately part of any relationship.

Feel sad by all means, but don't feel bad. YOU and you alone can make yourself happy and if you think you and the ex had gone the distance, you are to be praised for taking action.

Too many relationship drift with no direction. In the long-term, your ex will think you've done him a favor.

I appreciate it's difficult now though.

So you can do whatever 'Oxford based detective impression' you want.

(Also, how is the trip planning going?)

You've never tried nutella?
BAN THIS SICK FILTH. Nutella is awesomeness in a jar. (it's chocolate/hazelnut)
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:26, Reply)
it's DIVINE.
I've been having it on my toast most days since I was six years old.
I also have never had a cavity.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:27, Reply)
Sounds a bit sweet to me.

trip planning is going well. Two more sleeps!
I've decided that I"m probably going to go to LochNess. :D
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:28, Reply)
Loch Ness?
I don't know how much there is there, bar the loch.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:31, Reply)
castle Urqhart.
also there's a few trails and stuff around there and I like going on hikes at my own pace.
But LochNess has always been a place I wanted to go - ever since I saw the movie when I was a little girl.

What was the film about?
*Looks confused*

the monster in the lake?

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:36, Reply)
Eek!
There is a monster? Don't go there!

I was pullin' your chain!

How long are you travelling for?
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:37, Reply)
11 weeks in total.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:40, Reply)
If you go to Scotland
You might be able to find snow.

Have you witnessed the falling of snow before?
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:51, Reply)
nope. Never seen it.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:52, Reply)
I hope you get the chance.
It'll be a nice memory.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:55, Reply)
I'm going to take so many happy snaps. :D

Go see Boleskin House, Aliester Crowelys old house
Its on the east side of the loch, near to Foyers

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:36, Reply)
who is Aliester Crowelys?

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:37, Reply)
Alistair Crowley
claimed to be into black magic
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:37, Reply)
OH - that must be who Crowley in Supernatural is based off ..... since his grave was in the scottish highlands....
hmmmmmm sounds like a plan.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:39, Reply)
I love that episode
So happy it's getting good again. And Jensen Ackles is such a hottie surprisingly good actor
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:40, Reply)
ahaha yeah it was a brilliant episode.
and he's good at directing too!
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:41, Reply)
I was really impressed
with his body I have to admit. He did a good job on the direction
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:42, Reply)
He really did didn't he??
(I just googled the crowelys dude, he's too recent to be able to be the King of Hell, but I still reckon that's who Crowley in SPN was based off!)
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:45, Reply)
nice link to make there
Still can't believe what a bastard Crowley is though, what's the betting Dean makes a deal to get Sam's soul back?
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:58, Reply)
No I don't think he will.
round and round the winchesters go - but i don't think he'd be silly enough to do it again. I think Cas will do something.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 1:05, Reply)
since when has sense and logic
meant anything to the winchesters?
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 1:08, Reply)
this is very true.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 1:09, Reply)
I lolled very hard
when Lisa told him that Sam and him were disturbed

Another naive question
Where you live, do you have deciduous trees?

You're a bit late now but this has been the best autumn in the UK for leaf colour in years.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:32, Reply)
yeah we do actually - my house has silver birches on one side - and they look beautiful..
I'm hoping to see some good leaf colour while I"m over there, even though I know it's not likely.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:34, Reply)
most of it has been blown off
but it's been looking pretty special
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:35, Reply)
Get any photos of the nice leaves?

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:35, Reply)
no
well, I took a couple of the view from my window which includes some nice colour trees. A couple of them with my 1959 Halina camera I got for £1 in a car boot sale
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:36, Reply)
I bet it has. But I'm hoping to see snow and frosts.
I live too near the coast to see frost very often, and I've never seen snow that I can remember.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:36, Reply)
woah!
Swansea has frost, snow and the sea. I've seen snow on the beach here
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:37, Reply)
yes but you also have different currents in the oceans around you.
which causes different weather patterns.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:39, Reply)
i have many oceans around me
no man is an island. But I am
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:41, Reply)
Ray Milland?
He may have been an island.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:45, Reply)
Sadly for you
The leaves have dropped a lot earlier this year than usual.

You'll get snow and frost.

Most of us grew up with snow and frost as an irritating thing. It seems strange to talk to someone that thinks it's a novelty.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:44, Reply)
I think it looks beautiful in pictures.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:45, Reply)
Try walking on it.
And it's not as bad here as in many other Northern countries.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:47, Reply)
I'll probably fall on my arse.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:47, Reply)
You probably will.
This happens. You'll laugh the first couple of times, then you'll get pissed off.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:49, Reply)
ahaha I dunno, i'd only get pissed off if I broke something.

(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:51, Reply)
I still think snow is a novelty
even after cycling to work in a foot of it earlier this year. I bloody love snow.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:49, Reply)
Then you're some sort of maniac
My last Sunday morning in my old job, I booked on at 05.00 and it was -11.

I had to go across the yard on my hands and knees to open the office and if I didn't own a 4x4 I wouldn't have got there.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:54, Reply)
ARRRRGHHH!!!!!!!
Just found out that all the other people going into 4th year in my college that I know are living out together next year, and have pretty much sorted a house, without thinking of getting in touch with me about it. Since I HAVE to live out next year, this leaves me pretty much screwed, unless one of my friends from another college comes through with something (unlikely, fairly sure most of them are living in college next year, since it'll be their final year and they were organised enough to live out in one (or two, depending on college/course) of their others), or I reply to one of the e-mails that will start bouncing around soonish and go live with a bunch of random people...
note to AmberL: this is not a hint on your part, but if you happen to know anyone reasonably nice who is in need of an extra to fill a house, then I'm in need of a house to fill
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:53, Reply)
Start a new thread with much the same message.
It's getting hectic in here! :)
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:55, Reply)
Jeff
It's bedtime.

Don't encourage people to start new threads now.

I'll get embroiled in them, I've been drinking since 14.00 yesterday and I need some sleep.
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 1:01, Reply)
Meh, it's not really general enough to justify a new thread
The only person it could apply to directly is AmberL as far as I know, and the "why are you annoyed today?" follow on question, I have at least 3 answers to at the moment aside from this, so don't really want to get into it
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 1:08, Reply)
I shall keep my eyes and ears open
if you're happy with them being graduate students I think I know three quite nice people as it happens offhand. Will let you know
(, Sat 13 Nov 2010, 0:55, Reply)
Cheers
Hopefully one of my out of college friends will be living out and have a space, but may have to get details off you if not (which is looking likely)
