Tired of the usual records in your Halloween playlist? Here's an hour-long mix (and a compilation) I've made of old Halloween records / horror movie clips.

And if you want some more, here's another one, this has recordings from 1902-1926 - centuriesofsound.com/2022/10/23/halloween-dance-original-recordings-1902-1926/

I'm stuck at home with the covid again but enjoying playing Fallout 3 again, this will work nicely to give the game a bit of a spooky vibe, ta :)

"In 1967 an Irish woman, Mary Folan, who had long emigrated to America had a dying wish to be buried on her native island of Inis Meáin. But after Mary’s death, the unthinkable happened when an attempt was made to transfer her coffin from Shannon airport to the island in a cargo sling attached underneath a helicopter"

Oil paint gets its name from linseed oil, which was in fact entirely vegan.

( , Fri 28 Oct 2022, 17:59, Reply)

and my understanding is that it's a disruptive act that attracts attention and upsets people, yet nobody seems to be upset that we are literally destroying the planet.
To compare them to the suffragettes (with not a hint of irony on my part), you would have had people asking what racehorses have to do with giving votes to women.
( , Fri 28 Oct 2022, 20:18, Reply)

I think that's one big difference between the soup-chuckers and the horse-botherers. At least the horse-botherers had a clear, achievable aim.

I don't wish to be rude, but "Just Stop Oil" means "just stop oil." I'm not sure how that message could be further simplified. (No Oil? Oil Bad?)
It is a demand. How many organisations have their plans nested in their 3-word name?
What is unclear or unachievable about stopping the use and further exploitation of oil?
( , Sat 29 Oct 2022, 14:03, Reply)

immediately just stopping the use of oil is unachievable, most of them are based around living in the real world where huge amounts of infrastructure are based on it. Sure, call for stopping the expansion of the use of oil and reducing future use by developing replacement technologies, but an immediate stop? Simply not possible, no matter how many food based products are placed onto expensive items of art.

"Fossil fuels are killing us
Together, we can demand change.
No new oil & gas projects.
Just Stop Oil is a coalition of groups working together to ensure that the government commits to ending all new licenses and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK."

- but the racehorse in question was the King's, and so it was connected to the establishment that was part of the problem.
These art pieces don't seem to be connected to climate change at all (except in that all of Earth is connected to the problem, I suppose).
Are the galleries sponsored by Shell or something?
( , Sat 29 Oct 2022, 8:40, Reply)

I think you have just had the connection between racehorses and women's suffrage normalised through familiarity. The king of GB is a figurehead of power, constitutionally speaking he would have no say regarding voting rights for anyone. He doesn't even vote in elections.
Listen to/read what the protestors say. Art, like our planet, is beautiful, precious, and valuable. Our planet is not protected by a sheet of glass, there are no security guards to protect it from vandals. How you feel about a work of art being damaged or threatened is one trillionth of how you should feel about people destroying your ecosystem.
It's a lot less tenuous than chaining oneself to a fence or throwing oneself in the path of a rich man's racehorse in order to secure votes for women.
( , Sat 29 Oct 2022, 14:13, Reply)

What the protestors are actually saying hasn't been especially prominent in the coverage.

I buy them for a few quid at boot sales, dust them down and sell them on (for ££s or £££s) to collectors and restorers who then use some of the skills in this 'ere video to get them working and triple/quadruple the value again.
I wouldn't bother making my own vacuum tubes though, but then I do own an unusually large number of valves.

The second of the animations I made this summer for The Ramoaners band. Another angry song about Brexit, this one focusing on the roles of Facebook and the right wing media. Nice and shouty tune. Bit political and all that, but has cute dogs too.
( , Wed 26 Oct 2022, 14:17, Reply)

to me it's Nutribullets
I don't know if the had them in britain, they were these upside down blenders, and they absolutely hammered them on tv, advertising everywhere. they were expensive and whole bunch of people bought them because of the ads. And no one used them. eBay and gumtree are full of people trying to get a pittance of what they paid for them, but mostly when I go to peoples houses you find them in some cupboard near the washing machine gathering dust.
And now nobody ever admits they were taking in by a slick advertising campaign for forking out 200 bucks for some small shitty blender. It's always "ah, I just dont have the time to make smoothies what with the kids"
Brexit is Nutribullet
( , Wed 26 Oct 2022, 21:29, Reply)

A device with only the fraction of the capacity of your oven uses less energy to cook a single serving of chips than your oven does? What kind of thermodynamic trickery is this?!
Probably bloody great if there's just one or two of you to feed. Not so great when you're Sharon, mum of seven from Grimsby. Don't try and convince Sharon of that, though. Apparently she's saving an absolute fortune (probably by sharing that single portion of chips between 8 mouths).
( , Wed 26 Oct 2022, 22:31, Reply)

some things perform other roles, like a slow cooker, but it's just a redundancy if you have a decent modern oven, and its a smaller one at that. In the same way the nutribullet is smaller and way more expensive than a normal blender.
I think it's the name that appeals, "air fry" rather than using "bake"
it seems somehow more healthy and cutting edge than if they called it a more appropriate "small electric oven"
( , Thu 27 Oct 2022, 2:13, Reply)

they are like those mini toaster ovens, just fan assisted and still a bit shit compared to a regular oven.
Air fryer = shit little oven
Nutriblend = shit little blender
