"An athlete was pictured balancing on the ladder [in Austria] with no harness in 2020, according to the outlet.
"The same year a British tourist, Madalyn Davis, died after falling from a cliff in Sydney’s eastern suburbs."

People tend to underestimate risks on VF, and ladders are technically easy. It's tempting to let your guard down.
"Easy" ground is often as dangerous as harder climbing terrain for the same reason. "Do the climb, relax, slip on the walk down" is almost a cliché.

Suffering from a small bout of man-flu, I stupidly decided to challenge my withered brain to create a game in a day. Surprisingly - if you loosen the definition of the word 'game' - I did it!
Low quality, repetitive, and no longevity - Rishi Sunak has a lot in common with this rubbish game. Simply lob your recycling into the correct bin before the pint-sized Prime Minister closes the lid on you mid-throw.

I got as far as 100 before I realised the timer was not going down.

Oops, I think I know what is happening. I forgot to disable throwing while the instruction screen (which was a last-minute addition) was showing. Fixed now!
At least 100 is probably the best score anyone will ever manage...

Can I shamelessly steal it and write a ZX Spectrum 48K version of it for a Christmas newsletter?
Without being like totally sued or locked up in Wandsworth or this that and everything else with issues, isn't it though?

Shame there was this massive spoiler that came out in 1977. Oh hell yes, those Rebel spies just managed to steal plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR! Never saw that one coming! You'll be telling me next the Titanic sinks. And Bruce was a ghost, he died at the start. I mean Luke.

A galaxy-wide adherence to the ANH aesthetic makes no sense and only adds to the small galaxy syndrome.
A galaxy of millions of populated star systems should have astonishing aesthetic variety. Not all ships should be falling apart and ridiculously anti-aerodynamic . Not all hairstyles and clothing should be disco era.
Looking right is not as important as having a worthwhile story to tell. A good story is rarely one that's shoehorned in between saga episodes, in which every known character wears plot armour, every new character is killed by the end, and nothing consequential is allowed to happen.
The Death Star being deliberately sabotaged in the design stage only cheapens the rebel victory in ANH and diminishes the threat of the apparently incompetent Empire.
Truly terrible film.

there's a moment in it that really annoys me because some interesting drama was thrown away, probably because of studio interference, but whatever

I think the trailer version would have spent longer dealing with Jyn being pissed about the rebels ordering a hit on her father, which I would have preferred instead of a scene I hated with lots of people standing in a circle and arguing about what to do about the death star

Monday saw the world's first wrestling match take place on a Japanese bullet train.
A train carriage turned into a wrestling ring on Monday, as Japanese professional fighters battled in the aisle. Organisers say it was the first wrestling match held inside a bullet train.
The sell-out journey transported the audience on the superfast Nozomi Shinkansen train between Tokyo and Nagoya.
Dozens of spectators watched wrestlers Minoru Suzuki and Sanshiro Takagi fight inside the train as they travelled at speeds up to 285 kilometres per hour. Several other fighters also made appearances but 55 year old Minoru Suzuki won the battle after about 30 minutes.
The event organiser, DDT Pro-Wrestling rented out the whole carriage, with the 75 available tickets selling out within 30 minutes.
Fighters were not allowed to destroy any part of the train interior. Some participants took the train back to their homes afterwards, but without the fighting this time.

so I'd guess its like football, you can't read the sponsor's name but it'll be something like Kyoto Glazing.
( , Wed 20 Sep 2023, 7:10, Reply)

Why would you make comments about aprons and 'dressing as babies' (the standard bigoted joke about sumo) when the news story and video footage is about an outlaw pro wrestling promotion holding an event on a train?
Pro wrestling is not the same thing as pro sumo wrestling. A pro wrestler who is Japanese is not automatically a sumo wrestler.
But just look at the footage, the wrestlers are dressed in wrestling boots and trunks. Babies don't typically dress that way, neither do sumo wrestlers. The piledriver is not a typical sumo technique.
( , Wed 20 Sep 2023, 16:13, Reply)

My response about aprons was to Octo's 'dressing as babies' remark, nothing more. I had assumed that given your reference to pro wrestling, Japan and Octo's remarks that Sumo wrestlers were involved. Clearly my mistake,
Can you have 'outlaw' Pro Wrestlers? If the wrestling organisation they claim to belong to is professional then surely 'outlaw' behaviour would see them banned from the ring. Reduced to fighting for money in illegal street fights set in underground car parks usually against a Belgian or Pony-tailed opponent as shown in those many 80s and 90s documentaries.
( , Wed 20 Sep 2023, 20:25, Reply)

An outlaw promotion is more or less just a term for a shitty small indie these days. In the olden days a true outlaw promotion would be running without permission from the relevant athletic commissions and, crucially, without being involved in the local/national criminal cartel (e.g. the National Wrestling Alliance). My use of it was to highlight the shonky, low rent, hardcore blood and bullshit nature of the DDT promotion.
