Maybe abundant in the military but not in civilian hands for home defence.
Also wouldn't you need training in using something like this to pick out a helicopter?
[edit]
A quick search of the internet shows rather a lot of Russian made RPG30's in rebel hands.

This or some luck.
Maybe it's not early nineties, but I would bet there are some in civilian hands in post-soviet area still.
Mind, only point I'm trying to prove, is that it is not exactly far fetched.

That "collateral murder" thing was all about mistaking a camera for an RPG I believe so at least helicopter pilots seems to be wary of them.

i always think of capital punishment
as reducing us as a race. how can we move beyond barbarism when we resort to murder to punish. there is no reparation in capital punishment, just vengeance. If we'd like one day to get out of the shitty mire we're in today, small steps, like not advocating state sanctioned killing in our name, are the only way. regardless of the crime.

I don't see Capital Punishment as a 'punishment'
More as an excision of a potential threat to the race - a removal of a cancer as it were. I don't hold with any idea that all life has worth, some humans prove themselves by their own actions, to be a danger to society. Better that they be removed than kept.

From what i've heard they're buying up entire building projects before the first brick is laid.
China, Russia and Rich Euros are sending their money into London to protect it.
A change in foreign policy in the east could see a lot of people suddenly trying to sell their investments.
It'll certainly have some knock on to locals buying their first home true but it's down to the buyers to set the price.
When it came to buying my first house I refused to even think of pay London prices because I didn't think it worth it. House values dropped on my street because I knocked 25 grand off the buyers asking price.
It's now back up to that price (where's that smug chap picture....)

I'm not a "Russian cash buyer", but if I wanted a 1 bedroom flat around here
I'd still have to find 200k.
So it doesn't matter what the "cause" is (or rather, one of the many causes) of the inflation, this is the reality.
The whole of the southeast is on "london prices" these days, and if people generally had the option of "fuck it, I'll just move 100 miles away to where it is a bit cheaper", that place wouldn't be cheaper for long.

I don't think this is the case
It might be in Kensington and Chelsea, but most elsewhere you have people already on the property 'ladder', who continue to fully mortgage up in order to move up the ladder, bouyed by the rising price of their own home (which gives them a larger deposit on the next property).
First time buyers are almost entirely supported by parents and inheritances.
It's the 'developers' who really seem to be moving the market though, they pay cash and flip for a fast profit after giving it a lick of paint and fitting the ugliest kitchen they can find, or let it out. With prices going up there are more and more people doing this - its like 2006 again. Estate agents are reporting record levels of interest.
I think it would be a good idea to double or even treble stamp duty on second and subsequent property purchases (owning more than one, not moving) to cool this down

This would be a great idea if it was straightforward to see which property is the 'primary' one and all people were honest.
( , Fri 2 May 2014, 8:35, Reply)
it can't be impossible either
Since they were able to identify first time buyers when they introduced the stamp duty break
Edit to add: and anyone who wasn't 'honest' would just be committing fraud

From what I recall
Th qualification for that was entirely down to signing a form saying this was your first property purchase. Not exactly rigorous, but still fraud if you do claim wrongly.

They can tell a first time buyer from their N.I number on the payslip
You'll find a lot of property owners will put the extra homes in the names of family members.
I agree though a second home should be treated as a luxury item and taxed as such.
Here's an idea if we're proposing law changes.
Tax relief on travel for those that need to journey a certain amount of miles to let people spread out from the cities.

Its really, really simple
People need a place to live. They also need to work.
They can't afford to live where they work.
Therefore they need to live somewhere else and travel to work.
But the green lobby has decided that travel is bad and that it should be taxed to buggery to stop people doing it.

Dressing our problems up in the clothes of "we need a low carbon economy" is ignoring the elephant in the room that oil WILL run out, and we'll all be fucked if we're still living in the current set-up.
Shifting the current economic problem in to "well people just need to travel MORE!" only makes our future more bleak.
