I just opted out of going
to the cinema because I am the only person in the group who didn't want to go see New Moon. This is the THIRD time they have seen it. Fuck my generation.

How are you all spending your evening?

Anutha muthafuckin food thread
Last night my mum made me homemade scouse (stew for scousers) and buttered cobs (crusty rolls for scousers). My dad was going to bring it round but he didn't because my mum got sick and we had to go to the 'ospital. (She's ok now and they have done tests).
"Bang goes my scouse!" I thought.
But no! She rang me to say "I'm sending your dad up tonight with a huge dish of scouse. I ate one of your cobs so I'm just buttering another one."

GET IN!!

What clouds have had silver linings for you this week?
Or what are you having for your TEA.

Them Crooked Vultures
Got the album yesterday and have listened to it twice today.

I think it is fucking brilliant. Kind of like a cross between Queens of the Stone Age and Cream.

Get it in your life.

My mum went to an old fassioned sweet shop, and brought me "Tobacco".
It's like small strings of coconut covered in chocolate, and they're SOO good.

I've never heard or seen of this stuff before.

Let's talk about sweeties, what was your fave as a kid?

Hello QOTWers
we're putting on a stand-up comedy night - giving newbies a 5 minute turn.

I'd love for some of you lot to give it a go. You know, some of the people on b3ta who tell funny stories.

Give it a think and get back to me? Right, as you were.

Halp!
Now as you all know my computer skillz amount to fixing stuff by turning the puter off and on again, (which has usually solved all my problems so far, and I wouldn't recognize a gigabyte if it came up to me and slapped my face. I have been told that I can upgrade the office puter as it's very slow. I know the internet and security can do this, but I have no idea what to upgrade too. What do I ask the nice Computer man to give me.

I have the usual office packages on here plus Sage, Kaspersky security and internet.

Also being able to go on /links and watch the funny kitten videos at work would be lovely.

YYEEEAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I got tickets to see Mastodon next February! Fuck you whichever cunt bought my ticket for the islington academy gig this year, you'll not be getting your hands on this one.

Edit - Look at this
www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/nov/24/straight-civil-partnerships

So a couple want a civil partnership because "we feel alienated from the patriarchal traditions of marriage". How pathetic. If you want the legal protection that goes with marriage, get married, if you don't, don't get married. If you want to show your love and affection in a non legally binding way, have a "commitment ceremony" or some other shit.

Anyone know anything about overdraft charges?
Just read that a ruling is due on overdraft charges. Its says in theory if the banks lose (again) it should trigger an automatic refund on all charges since 2001. Is this really likely to happen? I was charged loads when I was at uni between 2000 and 2004 and haven't filled in any forms requesting it back as I don't have any statements and am not sure when and how much so don't have a case on hold. Am I likely to just get some money back?

Are you expecting any money back? How much? What will you spend it on if you get it?

Rant alert . . . I have a little turd at work who
is very much into his "rights." Not originally trained as a doctor, he's from a bank-managing/admin background. I am on leave for two weeks, and have been quietly watching the toing and froing of emails about on-call in my absence. The crux of it is, he won't do call this weekend beacuse he has something on, the other reg is at a wedding - something I asked be "sorted out" before I left. Bear in mind, he's had four fucking weeks off already, and wants the half week "he's entitled to" in January. By the way - he'd also like to not do the last weekend on-call, because he's moving to the country for a six month rotation. At the moment, I'm reading about how unfair it all is that MRS LEGLESS (whiny voice optional) didn't organise things when she went on leave (despite having done 1 and 1/2 times more on-call than him), how we are not behaving professinally and transparently. About how his fucking lifestyle and how he has a family and child (and I'm going to make damned sure he's on Christmas and December is a hell of a month for him) and he wants to see them. Wake up sunshine, you're in surgical training now, not a fucking office full of whingers who go home at 5**

I'm not going to start on "back in my day", but . . . back in my day the junior regs (as in first year, like this yokel) took the shit and didn't complain; you will NOT get all you leave, you will not always have that precious long weekend to see someone interstate, and you damned well better not try and dump me in the shit when I'm 300 km away - because I hold the totals for the on-call to date, and you don't come out looking too good, squire - lowest on-call numbers of everyone, including the unaccredited reg.

Sigh . . . that felt good.

** May not actually reflect the working hours in a typical office - I'm sure you guys work pretty hard too.

Today I have two questions for you people
Firstly, I recently purchased a ticket to go and see Rock God and tony person Ronnie James Dio with his popular beat combo down at the local town hall. Sadly due to illness he had to cancel the show and ticketmaster promised me a refund on the ticket. Now, they have refunded me the princely sum of £27.75. However, I spent £30 on buying the ticket (along with all the fees that go with it). So my question to you is, should I be entitled to the full £30 back?

Secondly, Scottish independence. Alex Salmond is putting forward a white paper calling for a referendum on independence. Is Scottish independence a good idea? Can they actually sustain their own economy without the support of the rest of the UK? Will the rest of the UK suffer significantly without the benefit that Scotland bring? I really don't know if it's a good or bad thing so educate me please people.

Currently
I am planning a practical joke involving my flatmate's pillow, a rape alarm and some duct tape. Unfortunately, as my flatmate is a Lithuanian ex-military martial arts expert the second and larger part of the plan is concerned with how to get away with it. As it stands, I intend to be about eighty miles away when his head hits the pillow in the evening.

What's on your mind?

P.S. He doesn't read B3ta, so I'm pretty safe.

Jackie Chan - Jumping The Shark..
Dear Jackie,

Once - you were the leading light in keeping the traditional Kung Fu movie alive during the 1980s - with your stupidly dangerous stunts and comical bloopers at the end of every film.

But tonight I found this: www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/spynextdoor/large.html

Holy Shuddering Fuck! What the hell were you thinking when you signed up for this... but then it hit me - Kindergarten Cop, The Pacifier - these are the films 'action guys' make when the just can't be arsed anymore.

Jackie Chan... shame on you!

I must have missed some godawful cheap d*sney-style action movies - anyone else deserve a 'shame on you'?

I just had a rather nice bath
And, seeing as I was having a rather nice glass of wine, I discovered that a half full glass of wine will indeed float!

Score.

Follow up to the thread I posted last night --
this one to be exact: b3ta.com/questions/offtopic/post574912

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave me advice or a laugh, I took most of it on board. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job because I don't have enough experience. And honestly, I'm not even sure if anyone got it because the guy said if he wanted to see anyone for a second interview, he'd do it the same day. i was sixth out of eight. everyone left.

Also are group interviews normal? I've never heard of/had one before. I guessed there would be other people there but the eight of us applying had to first interview as a group and make a decision about which one of a group of people with different skills we'd let die. Though 90% of that was the other interviewees and the interviewer shouting about who should win the the x factor. I don't watch it, so I didn't have an opinion. Maybe that's why I didn't get the job, for not speaking up about it.

Maybe I had a lucky escape.

London
I’ve been offered a job. Yah for me. However, before I accept it (or not) I’m concerned about the whole relocation thing.

The job, should I accept it, is due to start in the middle of January and is based in London. Being a dweller of the West and having never lived in London before, I’m concerned about the amount of money it’s likely to cost me in rent, travel and living expenses.

Realistically, how much do you need to earn to live comfortably in the capital? I’m on my own so it’s a single wage income, ideally, I’d like to rent somewhere on my own but I’m not completely adverse to the idea of a house/flat share (as I don’t know many people in the capital).

The job offer is in Finance and based just over Southwark bridge (again, I’m naïve as to the equation of ‘location v travel v cost of travel v cost of rent) I’ve negotiated salary, annual leave and some relocation assistance (although they won’t rent me a place, they have offered me two-grand towards to my costs) and I don’t think I’ll be able to get any more out of them.

Obviously, I’m not going to say what salary is on offer (for fear of mockery, one way or the other), but a rough guide for ‘cost of living’ in the capital would be appreciated from anyone living in the hell-hole.

They seem to be quite popular with people around here.

I'm quite pleased to announce that 'The Mocc Lads', Macclesfields finest tribute to Macclesfields finest band, have decided to reform and may be touring again soon.

And when Pyschochomp comes back from exile, will we still recognize him?

I do not have pert young breasts
But I do have a cup of hot chocolate, thus making me feel like a five year old again.

What has made you feel like a small kid again lately OT?

I got the new Wolfmother album yesterday
It's not quite as good as I hoped and heard it would be.

I counteracted the disappointment by watching Empire Strikes Back. It was good.

How's it going?

When I was little
I wanted to drive a JCB or be an astronaut for my job. I realise now that driving a JCB is probably fun for half an hour or so but becomes just another job after that. I'm not sure I'd ever feel that way about space travel, especially if there were girls and that fake bacon, but you get my drift.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
