If I'm honest, I dumped the project. It's not dead, just dormant. I might do more with it one day.I came up with a wicked idea while getting a haircut today from some over heard conversation. I donno if its already done or not, and I couldn't hear them properly so I might be barking up the wrong tree.
There are two principles of this idea
- I grab a feed of a dozen or soo bets, more than likely sports ones, and anyone can vote on what they think would win. So it would say "Who do you think would win? Man U or Spurs" with two buttons*. Then lines-close, so to speak, about an hour before the event is decided, and an automatic bet is made. It would be calculated as to how much to bet on how sure the general-populous thinks. At won't display who thought what 'till the very end as to not perswade people one way or the other.
- The exact same thing, but anyone can get in on it. They get their percentage of the winnings, should the bet win.
My thinking is that it would be a social experment rather than a money making scheme, and if it's just me, i'd limit it so it would never bet more than I can accord to lose.
* or maybe a slider to see how curtain they are, and then do some maths, to see what I bet on.

The reality is, the prices set by the bookies are designed to offer value to the punter and to entice them in to having a punt, but with odds that mean the bookie always win.
