[challenge entry] Christmas Tricks
She catches mice. Seven on Christmas morning as a special treat for us.

This is one of his best tricks- Roll Over. There is no trick photography or editing here- he really does launch himself at this velocity.
He loves his treats.

# Yay for well-trained pets!
(, Sun 26 Dec 2004, 5:51, archived)
# Ha, not quite
I'd love to take credit for these oddities but The retriever just started mousing off her own accord. We're not really sure why. And though i did teach the other one 'roll-over' originally, the pure passion is all his own. He does a whole sequence of tricks around that one, he's even won awards bless him!
(, Sun 26 Dec 2004, 5:54, archived)
# Is the roll-over actually as air-bourne as it appears?
(, Sun 26 Dec 2004, 6:03, archived)
# Pretty much
This is a bull-terrier we're talking about here, he's not exactly graceful. His whole strategy is literally to throw himself on his side and then launch himself over with the momentum of swinging all his legs (sometimes front ones leading a bit). It really is quite hilarious to watch and is probably a good percentage of peoples decisions to let him win his awards. You can't see the look of pure concentration on his face in this photo, even when he gets it wrong you still have to give him his treat for the pure effort. Or he nicks it while you're bent over laughing uncontrollably.

Not as stupid as he looks/acts this one.

# My cat loves the water
In fact, when she was about 12 weeks old, I was taking a bath (to loosen my stuffy head) and she climbed up on the edge of the tub and started pawing at the water.

Eventually, she stepped down onto my knee, and then into the tub. Yay! A fully swimming kitten.

No, wait! This was a kitten who, at any moment, might realize she didn't like the water, and I'd hate to have to defend my floating bits from upset kitten claws when she did. I got her out of the tub and dried her off.

She still gets in the shower nearly every morning, and plays in the lawn sprinklers.
