This is a link post Infinite Monkey Theorem
put to the test
(, Tue 1 Apr 2025, 21:16, Reply)
This is a normal post nice, but the theorem meant infinite time, not infinite monkeys
the former model would nail it some time far after the heat death of the universe, if you were putting a bet down
this model would have an infinite number of monkeys getting the complete works perfectly down from the first keystroke
(, Wed 2 Apr 2025, 5:03, Reply)
This is a normal post Indeed
an infinite number of attempts trying to do anything would mean perfecting it on the first round.

Of course, then you have to filter an infinite amount of data to find it.

This is a normal post You could even just have an infinite number of typewriters, no monkeys
there is always a tiny, but finite, chance that random quantum fluctuations would produce forces on the keys that type out the entire works of Shakespeare and as we all know, any finite chance, however small, in an infinite system becomes a 100% certainty to happen at least once.

You could even just have nothing, and there is about the same chance that the works would spontaneously form out of that nothing, fully printed, autographed, and bound.

This is a normal post Why hasn't this bloke mentioned the local authority route to candidacy, which is obviously the method Conor would use?
He doesn't need the support of 20 members of the Irish Parliament if he can get the support of four out of 31 of Ireland's local authorities. Still no small task by any means, but significantly more likely than going down the Parliament route.

'but Trump managed to become President' is absolutely a valid argument in this case. The Irish aren't much more intellectually gifted than the Merkins, God bless 'em, and he currently has better odds than some of the other potential runners.. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

This is a normal post I've definitely become more cynical since the first series.
But I can't help feeling that these tribes he 'encounters' are putting on a bit of a show. Kind of like when you turn up at a Hawaiian resort to be greeted by groups of totally authentic tribal Hawaiians dancing the Hula.

Something tells me a lot of these tribespeople are hanging around in Adidas tracksuits flicking through TikTok when the cameras aren't running, and the whole thing is just an excuse for Parry to get off his tits on frog poison and tree bark.

I'll probs still watch it, mind.

The less famous view of Itsukushima temple, looking inland, instead of out to sea.

It was a beautiful day when we visited. The short trip from Hiroshima to the temple was what we need to find some actual peace after the lurking horror of the Peace Memorial Park.

She's tried to paint this scene from her photo three times now - there's a lot of fiddly bits. This video goes into some real-time detailing of trhe water reflections, and has more notes from Mrs Wizard.

You can also photograph that gate from anywhere else on the bay, but for some reason, the tourists like a queue.

EDIT - the Lovely Mrs Wizard informs me that actually, Miyajima is a a sort of colloquial name, meaning "Shrine Island", and Itsukushima is the historical name for the island.

Older brother gave it to me when he moved to canada. I was on 110 p/w as a dirtbag student and had to pay rent, booze and food out of this. I ran out of petrol in it perhaps a dozen times. The brake cylinder cracked and I couldn't afford to fix it, but drove it for another year without brakes, using gears and the handbrake to slow down. In the end the cops gave me a canary (a yellow unroadworthy sticker) for a cracked windscreen, and I had to sell it to the wreckers for a pittance. Loved that car
