What am I trying to do?
convert a telephone number from
01234-567890
to
+44(01234)567890 (canonical)
And it doesn't work
Any uber geeks know (or can work out) the magic patterns to make this happen - I'd love you forever

Seeing the reactions of the people around us when one of our party spat beer everywhere from laughing too much and a good friend of mine calling to say they'd enjoyed spending the day with me.
Right now it's seeing what poses my cat is pulling on my lap to get my attention. Currently: On his back squirming closer to me.

I have my wedding get-up sorted! :) Me and my boys look very very smart.
2 months and counting... DiT is doing the deed, people! ;)

I just used www.just-eat.co.uk to order a takeaway curry.
Admittedly it wasn't a great curry - it was a bit sweet for my tastes, serves me right for ordering something unfamiliar - but one more requirement to interact with a human being has been removed. It's the future baby!

I finally got into my MySpace.
With the help of a video about Boxxy.
Let me explain.
I had a MySpace, as all 16 year old girls do/did. Very paranoid father (probably with good reason) wouldn't allow me a hotmail email, or MSN. Instead, I had one on our home demain ([email protected]) and he could read everything that went in and out of it. Or at least, that's what the paranoia said.
So I created a Hotmail in secret. And made a Myspace. And never logged into the Hotmail again.
Eventually, as is wont to happen, it was deleted through inactivity. And I then couldn't get onto my MySpace. No matter, this was the advent of Facebook, and I only went on out of habit. So I gave it no more thought.
Though, thing is, there are a lot of personal messages in the inbox, that I would have quite liked to have. Mostly earmarking dates for my memory (I like to know when things happen) and just telling one of the epic tales of my youf. Also, I would have liked to be able to delete it, if such an event should arise.
So, bored, I was perusing ED. So shoot me. I was bored! Anyway, I never really knew what the whole Boxxy thing was about, just that she caused /b/ to have a massive schism and generally fit out. So I inspected her page...
and there's a video about how they hacked her. Involving her old MySpace with a dead email address. BINGO.
So that's how ED managed to help me get back precious memories.
tl;dr What's the most ironic thing that's happened to you recently? No points for "rain on your wedding day".

This will be inlaid into a table with an opening in its top, and lights will be put under it. A sheet of tempered glass will go over the top of it to protect it.
Details of it can be seen here and here.
I'll upload the final result in a week or so, I would guess.

It has entirely screwed up my plans for the weekend. This morning I was supposed to go and get the timber for building raised vegetable beds in my garden, but after being woken and kept awake by an almighty thunderstorm it has been lashing down with rain all day and looks set to continue all night and tomorrow morning as well.
Fucking crap.
Had to go into town to get my guitar serviced among other things and got totally drenched while doing it, and people were round my place last night so if I'm doing anything tonight it means going out and getting soaked again.

I'm not much of a formaly educated man, and I'm not really interested in getting myself any sort of formal qualifcations... they're good for some, but not my cup of tea.
Anyway, dispite this, in September I wish to do a course at my local collage, just part time, once or twice a week in the evenings.
I'm not entirely sure what I want to do, I'ld quite like something to do with photography, but more the taking of photos than the darkroom (I love working in the darkroom, but I want a hobby that I can do any time I want). I would be quite interested in some sort of food related course too.
What sort of course would you like to join, for fun rather than qualifications?

I am the Maid of (Dis)Honour for my friends' wedding in July. Apparently this means that I have to organise the hen night. The bride and I have a hatred of tacky hen nights. Also, we don't know any women as we're computer scientists. It's a small wedding of close-knit geeks. Think the Big Bang Theory where someone has managed to get hitched.
Anyway, she likes Thai green curry and 80s movies. Ideas? Mine currently involve eating Thai green curry, drinking champagne and watching The Goonies. Pathetic, eh.

I woke up and went on the internet and that was fun and then I saw Sexpest who is my new flatmate and he asked me where the libary was and I told him it was around the corner so we went but we went via Richer Sounds and I've decided I really really want a new TV so might buy one soon if O2 will be my bestest best mates and whipe out a bill which I think they may have done and this was epic win because it was nearly £1400 and if they do I will buy the telly but not from them because they are too expensive and then we went to the libary where I joined up and I got a book on photography and a book on javascript which is basicly mine for keeps for like three weeks we then went to asda where I brought lots and lots of stuff including a chicken for sanwanigies so when I go into work later on today I wont get hungry or have to eat rubbish and now the chicken is in the oven and will be ready in a couple of hours so I am messing around on the internet and watching the apprentice because I missed loads of it when I went to cyprus

I've spent a bit of time this morning photoshopping a picture of a tattoo I'm thinking of getting onto a photo of my back. I have discovered a few things.
1. I think it'll look quite good
2. My back isn't as muscly and/or attractive as I had previously supposed it to be.
3. My mrs must love me for my personality. Which is in itself slightly worrying.

Just watched the Billy Brit vid. Very splendid.
Did you know his ringtone is a reference to the parody of The Wurzels 'Combine Harvester' called "I've got a brand new leather jacket", I know one of the band-members who goes under the alias of 'Billy'? No connection, but a good coincidence all the same.

For stirring things up yesterday. I'm in a sour fucking place right now and can't see it getting any better until tomorrow is over. I think I'd better just lurk again. It's so bad my mother just rang to say she was popping over to give me my birthday card and present. I told her to come back later cos I wasn't getting out of bed yet. What a cunt.
Sorry.

I'm munted.
Problem is, I've already realised that this is also the first time I've been truly happy...since the last time I was cunted in the fuck thanks to drink and drugs. Well, not drugs, spliff. But anyway.
This is a bad discovery. So the question is:
"is all knowledge good knowledge ?"

So slightly drunk. I've just been phoned by a friend who's doing a refit of a local theatre. They're replacing a load of old kit for new, and I've just agreed to take one of these off him. Question is - what the fuck do I do with it?
Any suggestions?

I poke my head in and find that people are feeling upset with one another. This makes the Loon feel sad. I'm glad I wasn't here for that bit.
Fact is, I like having the /talk people come in and inject some new viewpoints into here. Gonzo, Kristine et al seem to be pretty nice, and I've enjoyed them in the little bit I've been in here the past few weeks.
Ah well. Back to cutting stained glass. I may look in here again in the next few days.

Today I had to venture into Cockfosters, where I decided to make dinner tonight based entirely on local buisnesses.... Well, it's more like, they've got a fantastic butcher, fishmonger and deli/greengrocer.
So tonight, mathew, I'm going to be cooking "Smoked Haddock poached in milk and onions, with a poached egg on top, and frozen peas on the side." I also brought a root vegtable called Korobi (or something like that), which is amazing cold and sliced with lemon and pepper... but i'll have that tomorow for lunch.
I'm just like that Jamie Oliver person, in that respect.

I think things got carried away in porkylips post and I'd like to man the fuck up and apologize.
In all honesty, I'm not very funny, I do have my moments but they are few and far between. Luckily on OT I'm welcomed regardless of my shortcomings and I would hate to see this place become full of antagonistic banter instead of the friendliness that permeates here.
I haven't changed my point of view, I've just decided that an intelligent middle-aged women should not be drawn into a slanging match.
Thank you.
Edit - Having just read the threads below. I may not be funny but I am not fucking DULL.

Are you finding it just a tad boring now we have been joined by some /talk loving b3tans? I can remember when all this was erudite and replies were longer and a good bit more interesting. If I wanted to read\enjoy a /talk type of exchange I will go there.

I welcome any contributor with open eyes, but really, couldn't we have just a little more effort? Hm?
