Big news day today everyone
French psycho is surrounded in a building www.bbc.co.uk/news/17455224
They've cut off all gas and are venting the pipes because they think he'll blow something up.
And the budget, www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17456712
Whooo will win the rich or the poor, tories or lib dems, ooh political intrigue.
What's for lunch, I might skip lunch to watch the budget, I'm that cool.

Budget: Nothing radical will happen, lots of small amendments, claims of clamping down on tax avoidance etc.
Personal allowance will go up quite a lot due to inflation and to keep the Liberal Democrats happy. Reduction in the 50% tax band to 45% and a raising of the level at which this applies.

What do you think of Labour's suggestion to reduce VAT?
I don't think it would stimulate spending as they suggest, as retailers etc wouldn't cut prices, instead they'd use it as an opportunity to increase margin.

I think going back to 17.5% would be for the best.
But it's not a priority at the moment, increasing margins for retailers is generally not a bad thing economically but it doesn't help most.
There was a suggestion that start ups shouldn't have to pay any tax at all for the first two years, that would increase growth and employment significantly, at a fairly low cost.

They didn't change the rules to Scrabble at all. It was just a marketing thing for a new version called 'Scrabble Trickster' which came out last year. You buy the real version of Scrabble or play tournament or online and try to play a proper noun it won't count.
Another stunning win for marketing and PR over the journalistic values of every news outlet that reported it.

It does need addressing though.
Top rate payers can afford to pay in more to their pensions. Realistically they should have their tax relief reduced.

If I am already paying a higher rate of income tax and NI contributions on all my earnings why should I be penalised for saving for my future because I earn more?
Already contributing more in reflection of a salary, which is fair enough, but why penalise people even more?

that would not be penalising you.
It would be fairer redistribution of government expenditure. You get double the extra payments to your pension than basic rate payers do, which is basic rate payers being penalised, not you.
Are you a Tory or something? You certainly are pompous enough.

and you seem to have no idea about how personal taxation works.
You only pay tax on all your earnings if you have lost your personal allowance. It is reduced by 50p for every pound you earn over 100 grand. So unless you earn substantially more than that, you don't pay tax on all your earnings.
What's the view likee from that high horse?

Everything has to be in straight lines and round numbers. I don't keep anything other than £1, £2 and 50p coins in my pocket. The thought of anything else makes me feel ill.
