I quite like the dark mornings at the moment... it's dark when my alarm goes off now, instead of the birds waking me up at stupid o'clock. I know I'll hate it when the clocks change though... anyone know when that is?

I think it's the last weekend in October - Sunday 26th.
Personally, I'd leave clocks on GMT all year round. This business of putting the clocks forward an hour in summer is just nonsense.

No chance. I think he should get a lesser penalty or no penalty at all, but there's absolutely no chance. It'll either get dismissed on a technicality or left as is.
*prepares to eat hat*
Edit: that said, check out the first story at www.f1fanatic.co.uk - perhaps there's more of a chance than I thought. BTW, if you're into F1, I can thoroughly recommend that site :)

@ Rubberduck. "Rush Hour"? Remind me, what is that? ;O) I always pull the same mistake every night, which is to stay awake until midnight, thinking "Well, I'm not tired, so I must be fine" unware that it's eating into my sleep time. So I wake up rougher than a bear's bottom!

There's only one solution. Get a car that's even more high-powered than theirs and get them on the straights.
That was the philosophy I applied with my car - 400 horses are very useful on occasion, but I see 20mpg if I'm lucky. It's costing me a bloody fortune to fuel, but it's worth it to murder all the piddly little 3-series :-)

are they naturally idiots on the road or do they have to work at it? Same for Audi drivers, too!
@ Rubberduck. The Cadillac CTS is a very good car and the Cadillac CTS-V is the muscle car to end all muscle cars! Easily roast up a 3-series. They are rather expensive, so a good, cheaper alternative is the Vauxhall Monaro, if you can find one. They both use the same Corvette engines.

I don't worship any more, ten years in the trade can do that, but I have seen people whose entire disposable income goes on their motors, just to out-do the neighbours.
I quite respect the true racing/driving fanatics, and personally love older cars, but some Yummy Mummy pledging the family budget in perpetuity so she can have a larger SUV for the school run just seems silly. And profitable. Very, very profitable.
@Stig - the glee with which the prestige manufacturers libel each other senseless is well known. Ford's takeover of Jag/Aston etc gave us all much fun describing them as posh Fords (although TBF Aston switchgear etc...). Now of course, it's 'nice Tata, mate'

I'm a bit of a (okay, a lot of a) car nut, but I've never understood people who worship their cars either.
I like my car, and I don't mind paying for the privilege of having a nice supercharged V8 under the bonnet, but I can't understand the people who'll quite happily spend thousands of pounds on modifying and upgrading their car, cleaning it with OCD-like tendencies every day (mine get washed when I can't see out of the windows any more), and probably having sex with the exhaust pipe every night.
It's a tool for travelling. Nothing more. It's OK in my opinion to get the car you want, but it's mightily sad when you see the obsessive-types, or those running a car they can't afford.

I feel the same as Rubberduck (court case for sexual assault pending). I love cars and love reading about them, their engineering and the companies who make them. Having said that, I still haven't lost sight of that IT'S JUST A CAR! Nothing more.
It's like people who go potty over football. I'm a (plastic) Geordie (Up the Toon!) and follow Newcastle United. But it is just a game and won't cry if we lose.
It's just people trying to give meaning to their empty lives, I feel....(court case still pending)
@Osok. If you're going to be fair, then an Audi A4 is a posh VW Passat (same platform). Volvos share Ford platform AND parts. BMW retain any shred of original engineering, by virtue that they've got no-one to share it with! I think the Jaguar X-Type is a cracking car and I'd certainly choose it over a BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. As for Tata taking them over, I'm pleased personally, for 2 reasons:
1. Tata have a partnership with FIAT and FIAT want to work on the styling of Jaguars. And who do FIAT own? That's right Ferrari and Maserati! Imagine their styling on a Jaguar?
2. Tata want to bring back the Jaguar E-Type. I'm sweating in anticipation the moment that hits the market! :O)

Calm down, take a deep breath....
Just a way of maintaining 'your' brand's perceived quality against the opposition.
Take the most 'aspirational' brand in the group, for example the defunct Premier Automotive Group, and call it a 'posh whatever', inserting the name of the least 'desirable' brand.
Ta-daa!
Results in Aston owners glaring at the Sierra switchgear (OK that goes back a bit), Merc owners blushing at Smart/Chrysler/Mitsubishi. Lexus owners opening the bonnet and realising that every component is marked 'Toyota', and so forth. Great fun.
Mind you, Jag owners seem particularly susceptible.......:)

In the circumstances, and to spare you the necessity of detailing symptoms, can I recommend:
- clear fluids

By electrolyte replacement, you could either drink Gatorade or DIY electrolyte replacement which is one litre of water, a table spoon of sugar and a tea spoon of table salt.

An interesting, and slightly depressing fact for you LVP; chicken that has been cooked entirely properly can still result in you contracting food poisoning. I found that out the hard way two days before my last two highers. Meh.
I would be a husky. They are full of teh win.
And I've been listening to far too much classical music of late.

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite Tool song. the Pot is my fave of 10,000 days, but I'd also have to mention Schism off Lateralus, and Aenima. I fucking love that song.

3) The Walkmen - The Rat
4) Otis Redding - My Lovers Prayer
5) Madness - It Must Be Love

Sorry, couldn't resist.
I'd have to really think about what my favourite music tracks are, but I can say that one of my least favourite at the moment is that inane drivel by Miley Cyrus.
I only found out who she was a couple of weeks back, and now I understand why she's getting on everyone's tits.
Edit - OK, I've thought about it and looked through my iPod to find some of my favourite tracks. This is not a definitive top 5, it's just some of my most-played tunes. And it's not terribly mainstream:
Mr Blue Sky - ELO
If... - Hiromi
Hooray for Tom - Bruce Hornsby
Warm Wet Circles - Marillion
You Look Good to Me - Oscar Peterson

This talk of summer in an album got me thinking of other times of year in album form.
I'd nominate most of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's output as Christmas in an album. I've got a copy of The Lost Christmas Eve that gets pulled out once a year for the occasion.
That once a year is well into the third week of December. Not the end of August as most of the shops in the Midlands seem to think. Grrr...

I was at work and the whole site came down to the reception after a lengthy meeting to see that the Christmas Tree had been set up. Everyone was admiring it and making various Christmas small chat. I decided, as a joke, to say that the Christmas tree was "offensive to non-christians and ethnic minorities (such as myself) and should be taken down". Well, I expected people to laugh, make a light-hearted joke and move on. What I DIDN'T expect was for everyone to look at me like I'd just raped their families and tell me that "if I didn't like it, I should f*** out of the country!".
I'll never dabble in politcs again.....!
For the record, despite being of an ethnic persuasion, I am an ardent atheist. It's all twaddle, but if an event can bring people and communities closer together (i.e Ramadan, Christmas etc) then all the better.

and my local Tesco is already selling selection boxes.
I love Christmas, but I celebrate it in a secular way, being an atheist and all, and the sentiment (peace on earth, goodwill to all men) is good. But in September? No thanks. Having said that, I bought my first ever Christmas Tree in November last year, and got so excited that I put it up as soon as I got home.

Hmm. Songs.
Car Video (sorry! - shall try not to mention the c word again) - Sporto Kantes
Rose Rouge - St Germain
Morning Song and I Have Seen - Zero 7
Sure Nuff and Electricity - Captain Beefheart
Sex Born Poison, Wonder Milky Bitch, Caramel Prisoner, in fact everything ever by Air
Round Up - Asian Dub Foundation
S.A.L.T - The Orb
Lots of Frank Zappa
Pinball Number Count - The Pointer Sisters
Oh I can't pick 5! These are just some of the toons on my current playlist and I can't pick favourites, that's discrimination.
I also recommend Dub Side Of The Moon. Dark Side Of The Moon is my favourite Floyd album (with the possible exception of Relics) and when I heard Dub Side for the first time I realised that actually - Pink Floyd got it wrong, this is how it's supposed to be played.
EDIT: I refuse to mention the other c word too.

When you get to the station, ask about delays etc. But if the District is OK, then yes, it's easier to just stay on that.

Or if the 'customer' happens to live in the same block of flats as a suspected terrorsit, and is also lucky enough to look 'a bit foreign' and everyone's a bit jumpy due to recent terrorsit activity.

Being stuck behind them on a single track road isn't a problem, as you're likely to be the only car there. So the tractor driver usually pulls over and lets you by with a cheery wave.
It's the Micras on the main roads that annoy me!
Sorry. I'm veering into car talk again.

Staying on the District line will probably be easier although switching to the Piccadilly will probably be slightly faster.
If you do decide to change do it at Baron's Court instead of Hammersmith, it's a much nicer platform for sitting @ for a few minutes.
Either way be careful which District line train you get, it splits into 3 towards the west. If you do decide to swap lines then as well as an Ealing Broadway train you can also get one on the Richmond branch as that doesn't diverge until after your change so that'd probably reduce your wait time @ Westminster.

for foreign students, as English is not their first language.
But some British students write completely nonsensical language in their exam scripts. An eight year old should be able to construct better sentences.
I also had one guy give an answer which was wrong by 26 orders of magnitude! He had the charge on the electron as 107 Coulombs. To put that into context, it's the same as saying the diameter of an atom was one light year. It's that wrong!
Is it that they're not being taught language and number skills properly in the primary schools? (Not that I blame the teachers - they just teach what they're told to).
Surely a prerequisite of being able to function in the real world is to be able to write your own language coherently, and do basic arithmetic?

Apocryphal story. Abbreviated.
A cardiac consultant at an Aberdeen hospital, one Mr Cockburn, was due to give a talk at a dinner. The girl on the door pronounced his name phonetically, so he corrected her.
When it came to the time for his talk, the girl stood up to introduce him, and got all flustered. So she announced to the waiting audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our guest for the evening, Mr Heartburn, who is a cock specialist from Aberdeen!"

Firstly, I got told off for taking a picture of the train station I arrived at (apparently, photography at stations is banned for security reasons). I also visited a pub I used to frequent at least once a week for several months and hadn't visited for many years. If you look at my profile, there's a hint as to what I took a picture of.
It seems that not only is photography forbidden at stations, but also luggage-lockers, so I'm going around town carrying my rucksack.

I think grass is wind-pollinated, so we should be OK, but I'm just wondering aloud.

Anyway, time is ticking away so must depart. Might pop back on again this eve.

The Whisky Challenge was ok!
But I was out for a "business lunch" (free).
And I ended up drinking a lot of wine.
Free wine is my one true weakness.
Also, I had the Whisky after that, once I was in the office.

And I'm not even getting to meet the Man Himself!
I met David Bellamy when I was a kid. Not even in the same league though!

I won't get to meet him as people will be worried I'll try and rub his beard.
I need a cup of tea to calm down now.

I've finished work for the day!
Took the car to the repair people today. They have said I'm ok to drive it and they'll get the parts ordered.
Shouldn't be off the road for too long I hope.
The front bumper, wings and a couple of parts inside the engine compartment need replacing.

Wot a cnut he was. Kept hugging kids for photos and running off and it was all photographers shouting. No point him coming.
I saw Patrick stewart once and was about 2 feet away and all I could do is gawp at his awesomeness, he actually smiled at my gawping before my friends dragged me away.
All the other celebs I saw in London I thought were cnuts too so I ignored them, especially if they were famous for being on fcuking big brother!

About a year and a half ago, I was walking down a street just off Regent Street in London.
It was a quiet road, and there was only me and another guy. He was walking towards me, and as he approached I realised that under the baseball cap sat the unshaven face of David Schwimmer.
Our eyes met.
"Please, please don't. I know that you know who I am, so let's leave it at that, eh?" his eyes said.
"OK. I know who you are and you know that I know, so let's just leave it at that." I transmitted back.
We slowed our paces, and David Schwimmer and I smiled at each other, before he went to direct Run Fat Boy Run and I went to an interview.
I should've gone with him. :(
EDIT: That's perfect Lusty! PERFICK.

because not only would I not recognise half of the 'celebrities', but I haven't even heard of some of them.
David Schwimmer for example. No idea who he is. I could google him but can't be arsed!
Brian Blessed's good though. And there's no mistaking him.

about birds not being the best bio-indicator, but they are a bio-indicator. Declining bird species point to many things, such as destruction of habitats, but also for example birds feed on insects, and when insects die out, it affects bird populations, etc. Like everything else they have their place in the eco-system and as such have relevence in matters of this nature.
All I was trying to say really is that the RSPB is an all-round conservation charity, not that birds are any more important in the grand scheme of things than anything else is.
And I disagree about birds being fluffy, I think they are evil looking freaks of nature, but that's not why I support the RSPB. If there was an aquatic life charity I'd support that too.
Off to do some anti-conservation in my garden now while the sun is still shining :)
EDIT: soz for lack of relevence - was multitasking a bit too long there.

disappearing Mr Bin came home. The children are all fab.
I was year 1, reception and year 3 today.
I was doing a music lesson with year three. Xylophones. I had to do the same lesson twice, for dull reasons, with different children. I'll get my hearing back soon.
