I just dug out the "Hits of Edwin Starr" LP. I'd forgotten how many good songs he did. It wasn't just War - there was Headline News, 25 Miles, Stop Her On Sight, Funky Music Sho' Nuff Turns Me On (sic).

Well, I'm back from the states. Started travelling at 6:30am Pacific time on Tuesday, and finally got home about 6:00pm British Summer Time yesterday. Transatlantic flights really do screw with your body, don't they? Went to bed when I got in last night, and woke at 7:30 this morning.

I play on a couple of tours here and there, and Warmoth sponsored a custom bass for me. All I had to do was supply the electronics. So it's a warmoth body and neck with the Bartolini electronics (see below for specific info) on board. Yeah, it's a four string. I dont' do much with five- and six-string basses, unless I'm doing Frode Berg type stuff with a lot of chord melodies. I'm a huge fan of tapping, and my motto is 'Simplicity Swings.'

The same afternoons dabbling produced this (all of them just 1 take stuff) www.fnord.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/music/Organ0006LoveMeSnacks.mp3 and www.fnord.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/music/Organ0002ThreeBlindCats.mp3 these two used things i'd sampled in my keyboard (a big casio thing) using it's little sampler and played around with a bit.

# jeez
how can you handle that droning! a few seconds about drives me insane!
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:28, archived)
# it's got so many subtle parts to it
after a few minutes you hear the inner melodies and the stories it tells.
Plus it's got 2 parts, a wav file and a flash file which are not synchronised so an endless variation of composition is assured.
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:31, archived)
# so basically
after a few minutes, your mind starts to compose its own music around the 'evil noise' (as Berk so succinctly put it) to compensate and keep you sane
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:35, archived)
# no your mind becomes accustomed to it and picks up the things that change each time
rather than the overbearing noise.
It's like walking into a pitch black room, you are overwhelmed by the absence of light but you become accustomed and start to notice subtle differences in the uniform darkness as your brain filters out the stuff that remains black and picks up on the lighter parts of it.
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:38, archived)
# ok
I went back and tried it

and I can hear it, but I still don't think I can listen very long

/how long is the loop. I was just about to close it, but I think it just changed. Or am I imagining things?
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:45, archived)
# it's better just left in the background
your conscious mind can carry on doing stuff and your subconscious can be 'lulled' to a relaxed state by it.

The windowlicker wav loop is just a few seconds - maybe 6 or something might be up to 10, but the kitty flash loop is shorter I think and so they don't synch up and as I say they produce together an ever changing soundscape. They load at different times each refresh too so there's no common starting point for both of them.
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:47, archived)
# I'm actually

(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 4:49, archived)
# there is much I don't know or am wrong about
I try and bridge this gap with google a lot of the time, but occasionally i'll just say thing's that come to me and not really understand them at the time, but will later find them to be very inciteful and intelligent. It's like running with a news story on the frontpage before you've checked it out.
That said, the strange way that I to very often seem to be right 'for the wrong reasons or for reasons I wasn't fully aware of' has left me able to feel comfortable with just 'running with the story'.

(the link in there was an embedded image but I changed it when it went off into the spazz because it wasn't hosted on my server)

The kitty flash actually does a bit of injustice to the windowlicker (Aphex Twin) loop, I've had that in my profile for over a year it was one of he first sound looped profiles here. If you have a proper seamless looping wav player put this in it www.fnord.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/lickerfnord.wav I made the loop seamless then when i made an mp3 of it it messed up the end of the file, so I ended up leaving it as a wav.

# Well...
I play on a custom-designed bass, with a built-in preamp. It's got an on board parametric EQ so I can mess with it however I'd like, with a mid frequency selector.
So, to answer you question... not exactly.

# Yay!
Parametric EQ'ing rules! It seems to be a quality preamp in that bass of yours! I'm thinking of getting an active EMG pickup kit for my stratocaster one fine day!
(, Thu 3 Apr 2003, 5:05, archived)
# A fine choice :)
I've got a full Bartonlini setup in mine (2 soapbar pickups with the active para-EQ) which is excellent. Though EMG pickups have statistically been better off for studio ventures.

# I tried a strat with
Bartolini pickups once and the sound was very clear and bell-like! Now you've made me think of Bartolini as an alternative!
