I worked in Drumnadrochit a couple of times
and a couple of weegie shoplifters came in, and were clearly having a look to see what they could get away with. I kept a close eye on them and kept trying to attract the attention of the rest of the staff, but they were all completely oblivious.
After the weegies left (empty-handed, I think) I told the staff that they were shoplifters, and they reacted like I'd said they were aliens from Saturn.

This is a probable tldr but if you have a moment.. I'm trying to find an old audio (from the 70s? or early 80s) of radio, mostly cutting room floor out-takes) that had the likes of Thatcher trying to say "enough is enough" and Wilson berating an interviewer that his outtakes would probably get leaked from Lime Grove. The audio also has The "Woodrooffe Incident", also known as "The Fleet's Lit Up" which is a freely available audio of a pissed commander. And many more.
If anyone has access?? My brother was bbc for a while and that came around along with all the Merry Xmas VTs ( first one as above) The vt is 1978, dated as fuck so much of it is interesting but some of it ponderous and pleased with itself in-jokes about chroma key. It's on the archive.org which is a bit of a rabbit hole. Any help finding that audio gratefully received. I would guess it's at least 15 minutes long. Yes a lot of the VT was in house xmas party stuff
I had a friend that worked there at the beeb late 70's early 80's and they were much looked forward to parts of the annual pissup as was the copious amounts of food and drink that used to appear before the bean counters moved in and fucked it all up for them (and me as I used to blag my way in) the more famous ones are the Rainbow twanger vids but the idea was the same. "it'll be alright on the night" tv show took over from there once video and the interwebs appeared.

I've discovered a few things "late" - only heard about Jake Thackray this summer, can't believe I'd never heard of him before and think he's great, for instance.
But I'd heard tell of Ivor Cutler as some peerless genius of comedy, spoken of in hushed tones by people whose opinion I'd expect to agree with. And then, eventually, thanks to Youtube, I was able to see and hear him. And be baffled and disappointed. Comedy is obviously subjective, so I'm not being so crass as to say "he's not funny". It's just that, given who'd said he was, I *expected* to think he was. And I don't. It's probably me. /shrug/

The way to ensure that ideas, thoughts, opinions aren’t destroyed by those who want to silence them isn’t to say “we’ll only burn bad books”, it’s by saying “burning books is never a thing to be celebrated”
Critique a racist book. Analyse it, annotate it, say something insightful about its content. It’s bizarre that people don’t grasp this

Its not necessary to ignore nazi’s
to be able to criticise burning of any books. The objection to book burning isn’t simply “nazis did this, therefore anyone doing it is a nazi”; the point is that burning books is an authoritarian act whereby a person or group decides for everyone else what ideas they are not allowed to be exposed to. The purpose is to rid the world of the content contained within. So if it succeeded in ridding the world of the content within, if I said “what did those books actually say?”, I’d by definition have to take it on trust as to what was actually said, deferring to those who didn’t want me to know what was actually said, rather than working out for myself whether it was abhorrent.
