It is, it's quite lovely really. I think the Dublin - New York thing was a bit of a gimme though. We know the US and Ireland are culturally similar, in broad strokes (plus a shared language), but what about upping the ante with something like Berlin - Beijing, or Glasgow - Cairo? There'd be the usual daftness I'm sure, but I reckon the interaction would be overwhelmingly positive.

yeah and while we're at it, lets get rid of news and weather shows on radio and tv - fucking pointless legacy crap!!

edit: why even bother keeping tv and radio, we have wifi, netflix, spotify and youtube etc.. now to replace tv and radio
(, Wed 15 May 2024, 6:46, , Reply)
This is a normal post At a guess, cost.
Broadcast Radio survives/survived because it could be received over long distances without the need for infrastructure to support its delivery at point of use and without the need for expensive equipment to do so. That and you can receive it on the move. In 2024 the forecast spend on radio advertising in the U.S. is expected to be $12.48 billion, people are still listening at home, at work and on the move.

Also wifi itself relies on radio waves to function as do other RF reliant technologies like phones (smart and dumb).

This is a normal post It's still used as a radio broadcast will make it out into the ocean (especially long wave) where DAB won't
small fishing vessels can't carry much more than a standard VHF marine radio but long wave signals can literally be picked up with a fairly normal radio for miles. As the BBC are slowly shutting down the LW band its only a matter of time before it will just be on FM/DAB but old school mariners like to use it as a way to check the data they are getting is good.
Also TLDR - its a tradition innit

I'm the opposite with handshakes, though
I tend to see it as a character flaw for believing in that guff, or some pointless mind game power play if it's really firm that does nothing but give me a mild desire to fuck them over for the impertinence.
But some people do seem to put a lot of stock in it, a cabal of firm handshakers who mutually think they're upstanding characters

While i'm obsessed with invisible The Simpsons characters, Ben is obsessed with female Simpsons characters dressed as ninjas.
