It's absolutely everywhere; movies, music videos, games, someone once said that most culture is predictive programming, also in drama 'anchoring' is used to enforce certain ideas.
The Dark Knight has quite alot of it, for example they enforce the idea that rules have to broken for your own protection, that's one reading of it anyway.

but I'v e seen som e of those first person shooters on yotube and it amazes me how realistic they're getting and how casual a killing is carried out.
I'd say the average 14 year old after a few years of that would feel less sensitised in real life about pulling a trigger on a real human being. Especially as the line between realistic gameplay and reality is getting more blurred by the day with the tech . Much different than role playing with your imagination as the behaviour is programmed into you with the computer games .
In fact to get good on teh game missions you need to modify your behaviour and morality in line with the game. Is this not true?
I could be wrong though
( , Thu 12 May 2011, 14:14, Reply)

Games like this have been around for 10 years or so now and we don't have a generation of morally devoid trigger happy weirdos around (no more than we would normally anyway). I think most kids can tell the difference between whats real and whats not.
( , Thu 12 May 2011, 14:40, Reply)

I think we'll see the difference in the military not on the streets.
kids exposed to the most realistic computer stuff would make a more effective soldier. someone more readily able to follow orders without thought or conscience. And we all know how important it is for soldiers to question their orders these days.
the aim of the military is to get the average soldier less resistant to pulling the trigger as possible. To behave more like a machine than someone with free will. In WW1 they found 70% of the weapons of the battle dead were not even fired . No doubt today thanks to conditioning it's far less.

As they all encourage 'lone wolfing', ignoring orders and just running around doing whast you want, tactically.
All of these have to be physically beaten out of new squaddies, so they do what they're told, rather than what they think is best.

A little boy goes up to his father and asks: "Dad, what's the difference between hypothetical and reality?"
The father replies: "Well son, I could give you the book definitions, but I feel it could be best to show you by example. Go upstairs and ask your mother if she'd have sex with the mailman for £500,000."
The boy goes and asks his mother: "Mom, would you have sex with the mailman for £500,000?" The mother replies: "Hell yes!"
The little boy returns to his father: "Dad, she said 'Hell yes!'"
The father then says: "Okay, now go and ask your older sister if she'd have sex with her teacher for £500,000."
The boy asks his sister: "Would you have sex with your teacher for £500,000?"
The sister replies: "Hell yes I would!"
He returns to his father: "Dad, she said 'Hell yes I would!'"
The father answers: "Okay son, here's the deal: Hypothetically, we're millionaires, but in reality, we're just living with a couple of whores."

Mostly out of pure pedantry - how are they 'really' whores? Surely the whole thing is hypothetical.
And secondly it just feels like a misogynist piece of crap. And if a joke's going to be misogynist/racist/offensive generally, it needs to be a fuck of a lot funnier than that.

An Englishman decides he'd like to try shagging a sheep, so he figures he should go to the experts and takes a trip to Wales.
He stops the car by the first farmer he sees and winds his window down. 'Excuse me', he calls. 'I wonder if you might be able to help me. I'd very much like to shag a sheep, but I'm not sure how to do it, could you give me any suggestions?'
The farmer considers for a moment. 'Oh yes, well you see I think the easiest way is to catch your sheep and put her back legs into your wellies. That holds her in place and you can take her from behind.'
'Oh, I see', he says. 'That does sound sensible, thanks very much'. And he winds up the window and carries on. But he's not sure he should take the advice, so decides to get a second opinion and stops by another farmer.
'Excuse me, I wonder if you could give me some advice on how I would go about shagging a sheep?'
The second farmer considers and says 'Well, what I would do, you see, is to roll her over onto her back. Then you can lie on top and take her like that.'
'Oh', the man says. 'That sounds possible, but the last man I spoke to said it would be better to put her back legs in my wellies and take her from behind'.
'Yes, yes', the farmer agrees. 'Yes you can do that, but my way you get to kiss her on the lips'
