It's an Alpha Jet, which is a relatively high-wing aircraft, they would tend to experience less of an effect than low-wing ones. God alone knows what difference it would make at that speed though - I've never had any real contact with fast jets.
As for ground effect stopping him contacting the ground - aircraft can and do land...

Just wondering if anyone remembers a trailer that was put up here, either earlier in the year, or end of last. Seem to remember it being a love story between a couple, both of which live on opposite sides of two wolrds which exist in mirror image of each other? right above/underneath each other? I'm not explaining it very well, seem to remember it came out/was coming out around the same time as Another Earth (which is an alright film in its self) Ring any bells?

but it's a shame he's a podgy guy with a rapist beard who seems to refuse to wear a suit; the first thing the Norinco representative asked him was words to the effect of 'where's your suit?' and the conversation stopped there.
( , Sun 29 Jul 2012, 9:35, Reply)

that was more of a "where's your uniform" kind of question. I.e: If you're not interested in buying, don't waste my time.
Still, if he wanted to see some of this stuff, he didn't have to go to Jordan, he could easily have just gone to Farnborough.
( , Sun 29 Jul 2012, 10:43, Reply)

not all those interested in buying have to be wearing uniforms, especially not when it comes to western governments where our militaries are usually headed by civilians (e.g. MOD).
Then I remembered the sort of governments Norinco is probably selling to and remembered that even the civilian politicians like to wear military uniform.
So yeah, I think you have a point. Still, couldn't have hurt to play the part a bit more, could it? Theremin's post further down is fantastic when it comes to that; should probably be posted as its own link, methinks. Hilarious in a very uncomfortable way.

When did comedy change from this kind of politically active style with an actual message, to the stultifyingly dull stadium rock version we have at present? What's the point of standing in front of a microphone if you don't have anything worthwhile to say?
( , Sun 29 Jul 2012, 11:05, Reply)

but it would have made a wonderful noise!
I can see 6 GPO 2000 type heel-endslugged relays clicking away, probably acting as a timing/drive circuit for the uniselector which is rattling around at the back (which would appear to work the "level" lights?) - another two relays appear to be armature-end slugged, but from the way the contacts are moving it looks like at least one might be self interrupting and acting as a buzzer.
I assume the valves are acting as an amplifier so that the current passing through the snoggers can be bumped up to the levels needed to operate all the electromechanical bits.
1 - it's mains powered and has valves in it, I wouldn't want to grab hold of any copper pipe attatched to it at all
2 - I've got all the components in my stores - pity the bastard never published a schematic or I'd build one!
Hmm. I'm not very cool am I.
Edit: it *does* have a bell installed (black circular object top right is a doorbell) I've just noticed the flashing strings of wheatgrain bulbs - that accounts for at least some of the relays

( , Sat 28 Jul 2012, 19:49, Reply)

The launch occurred at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on October 15, 2002 at 18:20. The launch failed after one of the rocket's five engines did not start, resulting in an unstable flight plan. Approximately fifteen seconds after lift-off, the rocket fell back to the launch pad and exploded. The explosion killed 20-year-old soldier Ivan Marchenko, who had been watching the launch from behind a large glass window in a processing facility a kilometre from the launch pad. Eight other soldiers who were with Marchenko were injured, six being hospitalized. Rocket fragments fell in the woods in the same area starting a forest fire, and a Block D strap-on booster which came off during disintegration impacted the launch pad, causing structural damage. The rocket and all its experimental payload were a complete loss.
