I'm tired.
Do I MTFU and still go to the gym after work today because I won't be able to go again till Monday or do I go straight home and open the packet of posh biscuits that I bought for my special guests this weekend.

Edit - I also have posh crisps.

I am catastrophically bored
so I'd like you to tell me the last piece of juicy gossip you heard. Change the names etc to protect the innocent and stuff.

I heard this morning that one of the companies whose employees we run around is closing in a couple of weeks but the workers don't know anything about it. I think I might have dropped a bollock.

Gossip me up!

Work place bizarro
The girl across from me is having a set to, on the phone to her mum, about her not telling her she had cancer. The mum went in for a biopsy this very morning but hadn't told her, so the girl found out about it from her Aunt an hour or so ago, also on the phone, to the soundtrack of teeth gnashing and a fair bit of wailing.

It strikes me, that the fact that the woman has cancer has taken a back seat to the real issue about who she did and didn't tell that that the breast lump was malignant before she went for the biopsy. So, the woman has effectively just stepped out of the operating theatre and into a shitstorm. i'm sure she had her reasons for keeping it a secret, but that doesn't seem to be cutting any ice.

Does anyone else bear witness the cut and thrust of dysfunctional families in their workplace?

Anyone know anything about ISPs?
I had a dispute with my ISP, all was fine until I moved house, then the trouble started. I don't have a bank account, so a friend paid the initial setup fee - only she didn't, the ISP took a whole years worth of payment (nearly 500 quid). This made her go overdrawn.

They eventually (2 months) repaid the amount in full, only to then take the continuing payment from her card rather than my GF's (basic) bank account by DD. They refunded, then promised that her card would be removed from the DB. It wasn't, the next year they took the whole years payment from her card again. She cancelled the card, they promised (again) that her details would be removed - now I get an automated email telling me that 'card that ends in XXXX' has been returned. So they haven't removed anything.

Then, after being on holiday for 2 weeks, and nearly 2 weeks away on business, I get a letter telling me that as I have downloaded over 100gb in a month that my line is going to be restricted. The Internet wasn't even connected!

So, anyway to cut an already long story short, I refused to pay them, and went looking elsewhere. I got a letter telling me my 'service' was going to cease in September. I went to another firm after the 'cease' date, but they said that I was still connected. I logged on, and sure enough I hadn't been disconnected at all.

Now they are chasing me for the money - which they are not going to get, and now I have no internet connection. I'm trying to move elsewhere but the MAC code they gave me is invalid apparently.

I'm quite happy to pay another set up fee, just to be rid of those idiots, so is there a way I can go to another firm and just sign up and pay the setup fee without a MAC code?

The new office I've moved to has a cleaner
She emptied my bins and put new bins bags in them and she cleaned my coffee cup. I've never had a cleaner before, I'm used to working in squalor. It's the most amazing thing ever, I now feel obliged to keep my office much tidier than ever before.

What has made you happy today?

Advertising
The marketroid who decided to put "odour neutralising" on my current bag of cat litter needs to be locked in a small room with my cat's litter tray. With the heating turned up.

What INTERNET JUSTICE would you mete out?

'Sup?
Those purveyors of shite, Coldplay are playing a gig at Exeter Castle for 500 mugs who want to pay £50 each.

It hurts me that that twat Chris Martin claims Exeter as his home town.

The fact that they are so popular is almost as baffling as U2 being massive.

vis the condiments thread earlier
My mum's green tomato chutney etched the glass and corroded the lid of the jars it was put in. Aliens from the "Aliens" movie would have backed away slowly from this stuff.

Which of your family recipes should be inspected by the UN?

Let's be terribly British and talk about the weather.
It was pelting it down as I was crossing Waterloo Bridge. I was a silly Northern lass and forgot my umbrella, and decided not to wear boots and instead silly little shoes. I was cold and wet.

Is everyone else in the same boat as the water rises?

Alternatively, my boots-to-end-all-boots arrived today. They are fucking amazing. What else has made your day?

Condiment Sweet Condiment.
All that talk of condiments got me thinking about condiments.

I sometimes like to get 'party food' and a load of verious condiments, like a painter's pallet of condiments, and mix up the best combination.

"BBQ Sauce and Calslaw" is right up there with "Sweet Chilli'n'Mayo".

Yeah', let's talk about condiments.

Anyone have experience of individual voluntary arrangements?
I am looking in to applying for an individual voluntary arrangement to sort my financial mess out. I set up a company (which has no debt) in 2008 & when I couldn’t borrow money to support the company I used personal credit to get the business going. The business is starting to get some success and I hope to be able to pay myself more than minimum wage next year.

I have approximately £80,000 of personal debt , (car finance, loan, overdraft, credit cards etc). No assets (I rent my flat) and I can’t make the repayments and interest is racking up. I don’t want to apply for bankruptcy as I need to remain a company director – which I can do if I enter an IVA but can’t if I go bust.

My understanding is that an IVA won’t remove all my debt but typically debt is reduced by 60-80%. Apparently 75% of my creditors have to agree to the IVA for it to go through and the benefit to them is that they will get more dosh than they would if I applied for bankruptcy.

Not posting this for sympathy as it was my own decision to get it in to this level of debt but all advice welcome if you’ve been in this situation and/or have experience of an IVA. )Apologies to the Merkins as IVA’s are a UK only thing).

I have a genuine question
So, you're at a restaurant and there is a dish comprising sliced beef served on a bed of rocket with cheese shavings on top. You don't like rocket and so ask for it to be served with potatoes. The dish turns out to be rather bland as the combination of peppery rocket, cheesy cheese and beef is really the key to this dish.

Can you complain that you don't like it as if it's somehow the restaurants fault?

just realised I haven't got my student loan application through, and am now being chased for money I simply don't have, with only two days left in England to fix it. Anyone else done anything spectacularly stupid recently?

Typical QOTW male.
BGB suggested that many of the chaps on here 'own griddle pans, play the guitar and are wine/real ale fanatics' - others have suggested we are 'beardies' and fans of Half Man Half Biscuit.

What other common traits do you think we have?

And for that matter what makes a typical QOTW lady other than being the owner of breasts?

Good morning OT
I've spent this morning trying to research stuff in the library whilst listening to and feeling my guts churn horrifically. I've had to avoid farting for fear of shitting myself in public, which I've not done in 20 years and am not about to start up again.

I am so very, very sick. How are you all?

In response to legless' post below...
The idea that there's a AGW cover-up that's been blown has been nicely debunked in many places - but a good explanation of why the deniers are wrong can be found here.

Worth a couple of minutes.

EDIT: And while we're at it...

Last night I watched
Quantum of Solace. What a bloody stupid premise. What happened to hollowed out volcanos and plans to destroy the world? Proper villains like Blofeld and Scaramanga rather than some evil businessman who looks like a cross between David Mitchell and Jools Holland?
