This is a link post LA......Our City - John Paul the third (Poet)

I'm posting this is I've GOTTA admit I admire the guy's courage for doing it.

Got an email earlier from a friend who knows a company that has just started setting honeytraps for numbers registered with TPS. 800 lines so far, shortly to go to 1 million, with a recorded message that pretends to be a human, even though it tells them it's a recording, and generally winds them up.

About time I think...

This is a normal post Nice
I know it's necessary but I think the recorded small print at the beginning might put some off though.

Apparently not, the site says people carry on even after they are told repeatedly it's a recording. The callers must just be told to keep talking until the other end hangs up.
(, Wed 14 Jul 2010, 18:51, Reply)
This is a normal post
I've heard a couple now, it seems to be the small print bit often clashes with their pre-recorded bit too so isn't actually heard. The links on the left of the page have a few more calls, but either way I guess they don't care.
(, Wed 14 Jul 2010, 19:03, Reply)
This is a normal post hehehe genie arse!
reminds me of when I used to connect "lost-£1-in-the-payphone" callers while working as an operator to similar argument prank lines, with a recorded message that basically went:

"'ello....

whadayou want!?

i told you not to call me! etc."

...while i was listening in :D
On the couple of occasions that they realised what was happening and laughed - I'd give em their free call.

This is a normal post The writer doesn't have a fcuking clue about ADHD
ADHD or ADD makes it hard to concentrate for long periods of time. The H is for hyper, which means that you get over excited about things that you can pay attention to.

ADHD normaly comes with depression born from the frustrations of not being able to do as well as you wish you could. Trying very hard to work on soemthing important in your life and end up spending most your time staring at the wall. (Litterly, 3/4 of my time studying will be spent wall staring)

The actions of the actor is more in line with depression or other problems than ADHD.

Apart from that I like the concept.

This is a link post Free Russian science fiction classic novels to download
More Russian generosity, related to Avast's post below about Tartovsky. You can read the novel on which Tartovsky's film 'Stalker' is based. It's called 'Roadside Picnic' and was originally written by the Strugatsky brothers - two Russian SF heroes of the 1960s and 1970s. It's currently available in the Gollancz SF Masterworks series - that's how good it is - but you can get it for free and print it out yourself for the cost of about 100 sheets of A4 from the office (ie: nada). 'The Final Circle of Paradise' is well worth reading also.

I've only ever heard the studio version of that "I look outside my window and see you there... and I'm frightened... because I live on the eighth floor... you must be really really tall"

This is a link post US Music Industry spend $16 mill on copyright lawyers. Get's $391k back.
16,000,000 spent.
391,000 back.

That's almost 2.5% return on their investment.

This is a normal post 0.024% return
2.5% return would imply a profit of 2.5% (I think)
(, Wed 14 Jul 2010, 15:19, Reply)
This is a normal post you forgot to muliply by 100 to get a percentage
391000 / 16000000 = $0.024 return on every $1 spent. Which is a 2.4% return on their investment.

100% return means you get back everytihng you spent. 102.4% return is the same as a 2.4% profit.

a 2.4% return is pathetic.

This is a normal post It's not a return, it's a loss, shirley?
and it's not an investment it's a cost.

So their legal fees cost £16m, but they only managed to recoup 2.5% of that amount in damages, losing 97.6%.

A lot of the big companies have in house legal teams too, so I imagine some lawyers are in trrrruuuuubbbllle...
