This is a link post B3ta links on Twitter I made this!
The B3tan, WeirdWeb made this a few years back and it stopped working (2 years ago?) - so he gave me the account today and I wrote some exciting code that does pretty much the same thing as it always did.

I figured 4,000 people follow it - a shame for that to go to waste. Assuming they're not all dead or bots themselves.

Follow it if this is your bag. If not, as you were.

Oh and if a few of you vote for this - this link should appear on the twitter feed and the internet will eat itself etc.

EDIT: Also I've now put a relevant link back to /links in each tweet - mostly this is to provide context, I found the links with the titles a little bit bare and often I want to read the thread. E.g. https://twitter.com/b3ta_links/status/672040065133125632

So yeah - new, extra functionality, although this does decrease the amount of words in the tweet - compromises have to be made etc.

This is a normal post TL;DR western nations intervene in war half way across the world for profit shocker!
In all seriousness, yes it is frightfully terrible, but what other reason would any nation have outside the middle east have to intervene other than to secure their own interests. It's probably worth noting that just because someone once said something in an email, doesn't mean it is the basis for an entire government's defence (read attack) strategy, though of course it could be, but ultimately the whole thing will end up a massive shit storm that everyone involved got into because they thought they might get something out of it, and then inevitably will regret later, like that time I went to the office Christmas party even though I'd been fired, because I knew Joan in accounting was definitely up for it, and even if the boss called security she would definitely leave with me.

This is a link post re mercury mad man
metallic mercury isn't as toxic as everyone makes out.

"The toxicity of dimethylmercury was highlighted with the death of the inorganic chemist Karen Wetterhahn of Dartmouth College in 1997. After spilling no more than a few drops of this compound on her latex-glove, the barrier [glove] was immediately compromised and within seconds it was absorbed into the back of her hand, quickly circulating and resulting in her death ten months later.[7]"

This is a link post So it's the pacifist's fault that we're going to war?
Thanks for clearing that one up.

You'd never know the Metro was part of the same group as the Daily Fail, would you?
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 16:14, , Reply)
This is a normal post Er, the point the headline is making
is that Labour are not united and the PLP isn't following their leader. He's also not a pacifist. He's been a vocal supporter of selected armed struggles. But apart from that, great analysis, it's all the daily fail's fault.
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 16:23, , Reply)
This is a normal post headlines aren't about subtlety - they are sledgehammers
the story you are referring to is the justification for the headline but unlikely to be the reason they are running it

Leave to others to hazard why they are behaving like this
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 17:59, , Reply)
This is a normal post Today's headlines are an absolutely fantastic example of the British media doing what it does best.
For a start, you have to bear in mind that the editors know they're all a day behind the actual events and have to second-guess what's going to sell ahead of time.

So right now they're teetering right on the brink of whether they can get more mileage out of 'Loony Lefty Corbyn Will Lead Us All to Ruin' or whether to jump straight into 'How Did We Get Into This Calamitous War?' and today shows a marvellous mix of both.

But only the Metro seems to have nailed it dead centre with "Man Opposed To War To Blame For War".
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 18:09, , Reply)
This is a normal post Well, Diane Abbott, an ardent supporter of Corbyn
and also anti-war said today "The problem about a free vote is that it hands victory to Cameron on a plate." So even people on Corbyn's side appear to agree with that headline.
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 19:31, , Reply)
This is a normal post No, the headline is trying to imply Corbyn is to blame for Cameron's bad choices
It's so insanely twisted right-wing agenda it doesn't know which way it's going. But then Cameron was the one having a hissy fit a few years back that he couldn't get agreement to bomb the other side in the same fucking war!
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 20:01, , Reply)
This is a normal post No.
I disagree. The headline makes clear that Corbyn's lack of leadership and authority means that Labour are in disarray and lacking in unity, thus Cameron will get his way due to the absence of a coherent opposition. Just as Diane Abbott said. He has no authority, and by extension nor do his whips.
(, Tue 1 Dec 2015, 20:08, , Reply)
This is a normal post The government's foreign policy, as you say, is a joke
But it's the opposition's job to get in the way of bad decisions. Corbyn has proved he'd rather cling on to leadership than do the right thing. His one redeeming quality - that he was a man of conviction - has gone out the window at the first sniff of power.
