I've been with the same boss for around 9 years. We started the office together and have since grown to 25 workers with him taking on Director and me Deputy roles. We are what you could call "thick as thieves".
I have a moral problem. He recently go into trouble at HQ and asked me write my version of events. I did so without a second thought. Now I'm being called into a disciplinary meeting next week. What do I do? Defend myself? Tell them he asked me to do so (which they already know anyway)? I don't want to take the blame as it's not my bad and I don't want to be lumped in as a trouble-maker either. but I don't want to make it worse for him.
What to do? Where do my loyalties lie? Should I offer to suck off the HQ Director?
Help!

From BBC news (a little out of date now I know):
Re: Jade Goody's death.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he was "deeply saddened" by the news and described Goody as "a courageous woman both in life and death".
"The whole country has admired her determination to provide a bright future for her children."
What the hell has Gordon Brown got to do with Jade Goody? I can't imagine him (or the incumbent on the day I die) commenting on my death. There's plenty of people who have worked harder, achieved more, enriched lives and made a real contribution that he doesn't even know about!
Why has he been influenced to make a comment? The press coverage. So, here's the key question ... Are the press managing the politicians or are the politicians managing the press? It's certainly not public opinion that's made him comment ... everyone on b3ta and indeed everyone I know thinks Jade's departure from this vale of tears has been a good thing...

Dear Enzyme
End of temporary contract
[The Head of School] has now advised me that as Chair of the [department] Board I should address the issue relating to the end of your current contract in July. I am currently perusing the paper work but the key matter is this. We are required to have 4 meetings before July to discuss the position.
All good wishes
M
I've also been told that I can have a union rep or colleague present.
I've never heard of such a thing before: I'd assumed that, come July, I'd just hand over my teaching materials and wander off. I'm also a bit worried - why would I be entitled to take a union rep unless it's disciplinary?
Has anyone else heard of such processes? Should I worry?

No wonder I've run out of things to say. I can't even think of anything I want for my b3ta-day presents this year.
Let me know what you were planning to get me and I'll see whether I can be bothered to turn up.

This goes to show how shit Hull actually is. When gathering pix for their Streetview thingy, they skipped doing Hull in favour of Scunthorpe.
I ask you. Friggin' Scunthorpe! Everytime I've ben to Scunthorpe, it's been drizzling. On the way you pass a load of scrapyards and the steel works and the town itself comprises mainly of concrete. I'm convinced the place doesn't have any colour at all and is in fact monochrome. "Sunny Scunny" is a breach of the trade descriptions act.
and yet, Google chose to drive around there with their "Jetsons" camera car.
I want to look at pictures of my house with the window open so I can complain that burglars may see my window is open and try to climb in.

in particular do they grow during their life
Is a little fly going to end up a big fly or do they come out their eggs fully grown ? I don't mind a little fly that can be wafted away but I can't stand those big fuckers that throw shapes round the room like they own it , so should I review my extinction policy and kill all flies or stick with just chasing the big ones , (or should I just throw away the decomposing corpse under the floorboards ?)

Now, I am sorted as I am getting the train, but I have noticed that a lot of people want to go to the Edinbash but haven't sorted transport yet, so I thought it might be time for a car-sharing thread. If you're travelling by car and have a spare seat you want to share, please feel free to bung your details in here, like where you're travelling from, and cities you'll pass on the way where you might be able to pick people up from.
If you want a list, bung your details in here. Any questions, you know where the gaz button is.

Because we are - let's face it - a collection of quite geeky folk, I give to you The Five Geek Social Fallacies.
Can you think of any bashes that fall into these patterns? Do you want to point the finger at anyone?
Do tell.

because I just changed my car's oil and a fair bit ran down my arm to my elbow. From the middle of my forearm up it looks like I have a great tan.
I drive an Isuzu Amigo. Today I discovered that the only place to get parts for the goddam thing is through the dealership, because Isuzu has pulled out of the US. This means that I have a very limited life left on this car.
BASTARDS!
So what pleasant things have you discovered today?

Stuck at work. The last ep - EVAR - of BSG is downloading at home. No chance of seeing it until tonight, but having to avoid 95% of my normal browsing to avoid spoilers from yankees who have seen it. I'm pretty much going have just read the Daily Mail online all day now. Or worse, do some fucking work.

I have about a bazillion things to do this week for various SACs (Student Assement Criteria - fail one of those - fail the subject), and I have *zero* motivation. I honestly cannot be arsed. I have holidays in two weeks and I have already been given piles of homework for it.
Someone tell me to woman the Fuck Up and get on with it please.
Or at least give me a tip on how to get started on designing my own biology prac to show how catalase works.

I'm looking for something along the lines of an electroluminescent phosphor/paste that will light up when I shove some voltage into it.
Any ideas at all?

I'm usually out on Friday but circumstances dictate otherwise tonight.
So I thought I'd inspect B3TA and all is very quiet.
Frankly that is heartening - I like to think that that people interact in social situations on Fridays.
If you're failing to interact kindly share your social inadequacies below.
I can't make a HSH picture because I am the Joey Deacon of all computers.

Since al's perfectly valid question below has singularly failed to garner one sensible reply...
Can anyone help al in his quest for whatever the hell it is he's asking about? He's a lovely chap, a mate, and I hate to see him go home for the weekend un-enlightened.
There's a good fisting in it for anyone who can help.

A possible solution perhaps:
Why not have 'suggestions' submitted and closed on a weekly basis in a simliar way to QOTW? That way the best suggestion of the week would be the new question.
Or is that to straight forward? Or is that how it's "supposed" to work already?
