No point asking an Alt Q if the answer to the first question in a 'no'.

Just got back to my home city from a party that started on Saturday night. I am covered in bruises from people's teeth, three of my main joints are buggered and swollen and at least one person is never going to talk to me again.
Was my weekend worth it?

but this level of outrage deserves its own post.
so london waits until i have to leave for my seminar to belt it down with freezing cold rain. soaked, frizzy haired, shivering underneath my sodden wrap throughout. what could make my evening worse? nothing? well, dashing back to the office was not a great start.
but it got a whole lot worse when i got mistaken for a homeless at the lincoln's inn soup kitchen... bloody hell!
no question, just ranting. as you were, people.

Before I fritter away my entire student loan.
I just bought a corset coat I really shouldn't have. I don't need it in the slightest, but it's just so pretty... Hopefully it'll be here in time for the bash so I can wear it to that and justify it. And it'll look so damn good with my Iron Fists, skinny black jeans and red tshirt dress (yeah, I'm disappointed I missed the fashion thread).
What impulse buys have you made recently?
Alternatively, I saw one of my favourite singers in a cafe in Withington on Saturday and it absolutely made my day. Run into any famous people lately?
Alternatively alternatively, who are you going to punch at the bash?

I am in a major row with my sons school as they have attempted to single my son out in a number of ways. There is no basis for this, and all of our observations, plus those of his school reports and other things contradict it. The school have broken several procedural rules, they have refused to communicate with us, and I am writing to Ofsted and everybody else I can think of.
The FHM plagiarism has incensed me. I just called them to enquire as to their editorial policy and am writing to their editor (Colin Kennedy - tel 020 7295 5000 email [email protected]). I feel if all b3tans write polite complaints, and call in, then FHM may stop stealing from us.
On top of that, I would like to complain to the BBC that I haven't been given my own prime time show.
My question is, therefore, after his lengthy preamble, who would you like to write a complaint to (sensible or not), and what action would you like them to take to remedy things?

Everyone in my apartment block - 50 units - have had a hand delivered letter delivered, presumably from a resident. It's pretty strong stuff, racist, homophobic ranting, through to suggesting killing mixed race kids. It also refers specifically to certain people, though not by name, just description.
Anyway, is this illegal? Or just moronic?

Somebody should do something.
Surely somebody on B3ta is capable of sabotaging their website or getting this publicised to make a holy show of them.
It's jolly bad form.

To pass the time, I shall tell you about a wonderful book my brother has, called 'Tribes of the World' or somesuch. It's an incredible early 1900s book documenting the weird and wonderful people around at that time, with some great photography and unintentionally hilarious patronising colonial descriptions. As an anthropological study it is genuinely amazing, listing and depicting all manner of fascinating (and for the most part probably now extinct) ethnic groups, the finest of which being...
...'The Hairy Ainu' of Japan. Call me puerile if you like, but that's rather amusing, no?
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 18:19, 93 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I'm filling in one* myself. It's one of those annoying ones where they give you a set of itemised criteria and expect you to give an answer for each one. Unfortunately, whilst the first five or six made sense, I cannot fill in the remaining three because I have no idea what
"Potential to identify development opportunities," or
"Ability to contribute to administration,"
let alone
"Practical application of equality and diversity"
are supposed to mean.
Any ideas?
Alt Q: Why do people write this sort of horse-shit on application forms in the first place?
*An application form, not another man's bottom.

Anyone need any broadband technical support?
I am officially better at this than anyone at WankWank. I have fixed my 3-week shutdown MY FUCKING SELF. I can also do a passable 70s racist 'comedy' Indian accent WITHOUT sounding Welsh.

Hey, I know I haven't been on here for aaaaaages (like over a year) but the time has come again where I need the help of fellow b3tans.
I know it may seem like I am just using you all for my own gain... but that's all you're good for.
Anyway, I have an interview next week for a research position where I would be collecting information about children and their families so that the local council can figure out what policies to make and what provisions to provide. I have lots of experience working with children and have done research in university but have never done research as an actual job.
What I wanted to ask was if anyone had any ideas about what type of questions might be asked about a post like this and what some good answers might be. I have a lot of knowledge in this area but am really really bad at interviews. I thought that if I had an idea of what type of thing to say before I went, then I might feel calm enough to do better than I normally would.
I won't be back til tomorrow to check this thread so hopefully by then someone might have put something useful and not just have comments along the lines of "seduce the interviewer"
Thanks!

if you had a potential choice between living in brighton, working in london for a good stable company earning a set amount, but losing £4.5k a year of that to transport costs and travelling 2 hours each way, or living in brighton working in hove for a lesser known, potentially less fun company that has a lot more impressive links in the field you want to be in, earning the same or more but travelling for five minutes each way and paying the cost of the odd puncture repair kit, inner tube, and bike chain, what would you choose? bearing in mind you'd only been in the previous job six months and it will look a bit daft on a cv.
alt q: anyone know any good rock clubs in brighton?
alt alt q: is this week's qotw lame or what?
