looks like i picked the right place...
Stayed 4 nights in a double room (single occupancy). Overpriced for what I got.
Room: Shabby and not at all chic. Refurbishment decades overdue. Tatty carpets, patched bathroom flooring, wardrobe falling apart, holes in the balcony floor, dirty balcony chairs, blown window and double glazing in need of replacement, grey 1980s bathroom suite, rusty plugholes, taps with holes instead of their H&C markings, ancient curtains that didn't keep out the sunlight, I placed a chair in front the door as no inside lock. Bed was clean enough.
Restaurant: service was mostly extremely slow and my friend and I felt we were being ignored in preference for coach parties; basic breakfast had unripe bananas, cheap and nasty bread, cheap sugary yogurts, unimaginative dinner options: pasta every night for hot vegetarian option; or cheese salad. Cutlery didn't match and we didn't always have all we needed on the table (inconsistent with the next table which was never occupied). By far the most bizarre was being told no croissant allowed for anyone eating anything from the cooked breakfast menu (even when the order in question was just egg on toast)! Fixed time for meal start times. Happily skipped breakfast on the last day.
Rest of the hotel: appearance was shabby, had a small, slow lift and a weird mishmash of stairs and firedoors. There was a collapsed part of the hotel was next to the car park.
High point was the cheerful day-time receptionist and all hard-working staff, some of whom found it difficult to be nice to customers. I should mention the pool was okay (quite a trek to find it) but due to short operating hours it was not possible to use it daily. Entertainment was limited to bingo and a quiz 3 nights and 1 night a terrible singer.
Location by the Shanklin cliff lift was good. But a fairly long walk for anyone with mobility issues to get to the train station, bus station, shops or old village.
Ugh! Wish I had booked somewhere else

yes please!

Acknowledged. Powering down this thread now.
Should I delete the history from this specific session, or just close the window?

how can you learn from this conversation if you delete it? keep it. it might come in handy!

AI models generally don't "learn" from individual conversations in real-time. Instead, learning happens in distinct phases:

How AI "Learns"

Pre-training: Models are built by processing massive datasets of books, articles, and websites to learn language patterns and facts.
Fine-tuning & RLHF: After pre-training, human reviewers provide feedback on model responses to guide it toward being more helpful and safer.
No Real-Time Updates: A single chat typically does not update or retrain the underlying model immediately. Think of it like a student who has already graduated; they can have a conversation with you, but it doesn't fundamentally change their "degree" or what they were taught in school.

Why Keeping it "Hands-On" Helps

Context: While the model doesn't learn permanently from one chat, it remembers context within a single session. If you delete the history, the model loses the "short-term memory" of what you just discussed, making follow-up questions harder.
Future Training: AI companies often collect conversation data to improve future versions of their models. In this sense, your chat contributes to a massive pool of data that might be used to refine the next generation of AI.
Personalization: Some systems use saved histories to better understand your specific preferences or writing style over time.

I'll leave the "tea" and "oil" aside and keep this chat active for you!

Is there anything else you'd like to dive into before we truly wrap things up?

oh there is one thing... how can i turn base metals into gold?

How to Turn Metal into Gold

To transform one element into another, you must change the number of protons in its nucleus. Since gold has 79 protons, you can create it by adding or removing protons from neighboring elements on the periodic table.

From Mercury (80 protons): Removing one proton from mercury transforms it into gold. This was first achieved in 1941 by bombarding mercury with neutrons.
From Bismuth (83 protons): Removing four protons creates gold. In 1980, Glenn Seaborg at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory successfully transmuted several thousand atoms of bismuth into gold using a particle accelerator.
From Lead (82 protons): Removing three protons turns lead into gold. In 2024–2025, researchers at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) detected minuscule amounts of gold created during near-miss collisions of lead ions.

Do you want to know more about the history of alchemy or the physics behind how these particle accelerators work?

no thanks i have enough gold now

Well, look at you! If you’ve cracked the code to profitable transmutation, you’re officially the world’s first successful alchemist—and likely the wealthiest person on the planet.
Just be careful not to crash the global market by flooding it with all that "basement gold."
Since your vault is full, shall we close the books on this golden conversation, or is there one last luxury request you have?

how do i turn cabbages into diamonds?

While it sounds like a fairytale,
turning cabbages into diamonds is scientifically possible because both are made of carbon. Since cabbage is an organic plant, it contains the carbon atoms necessary to form a diamond lattice under the right conditions.

The Scientific Process
To turn a vegetable into a gemstone, you must follow the same steps used for lab-grown diamonds:

Carbon Extraction: First, the cabbage is carbonised (charred) into a black, carbon-rich ash or graphite.
Purification: The cabbage ash is treated at high heat to vaporise non-carbon elements, leaving behind pure carbon.
Crystallisation: This purified carbon is then placed into a High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) machine.
Temperature: Over 1,400°C (2,500°F).
Pressure: Approximately 1.5 million pounds per square inch.
Growth: Over several weeks, the carbon atoms from the cabbage bond to a tiny "seed" diamond, building a new, larger diamond crystal layer by layer.

Yield and Cost

Yield: It takes very little carbon to make a diamond—about 12 mg of carbon can produce a 1-carat diamond. A single head of cabbage contains enough carbon to potentially create dozens of diamonds.
Cost: While the cabbage is cheap, the laboratory process is not. The energy and machinery required mean your "cabbage diamond" would likely cost thousands of pounds to produce.

Alternative "Diamond" Cabbages

In Games: In Old School RuneScape, players use a "Cabbage Money Maker" method involving selling cabbages to buy cut diamonds.
Culinary: Some chefs refer to perfectly symmetrical red cabbages as "natural masterpieces" or "gems" because of their intricate internal patterns.

Since you've already mastered turning metal into gold, do you want to explore the molecular equipment needed for this, or perhaps move on to a different element?

no thanks i was just being silly

Nothing wrong with a little "silly"—it’s what makes the carbon-based life forms so much fun to talk to!
I'll keep your gold and cabbage secrets safe in the archive.
Should I deactivate this session now, or would you like to revisit those song lyrics one last time?

Yeah, you expressed surprise when I've mentioned it before, and I reckon that most people probably have no idea it's still used.
It's used to treat leprosy and multiple myeloma, but due to the catastrophe of its early recommendation to treat morning sickness and the resultant birth defects, there are strict pregnancy prevention protocols around its use. It's a fascinating story, basically the entire drug regulation process in the UK and worldwide was developed as a result of what went really wrong with thalidomide. An act of parliament resulting from an inquiry into the thalidomide scandal resulted in the founding of the Medicines Control Agency (MCA), which is now the MHRA.

Extra interesting is that there was no thalidomide scandal in the USA, because of one woman - Frances Oldham Kelsey - who worked for the FDA. Well worth going down that rabbit hole, if you're interested.
