my best advce for faces is to cut out one of the ones from your pic there and just play about with the same techniques you've been using until your happy then start on the main pic.

I don't see what help you would need.
You seem to be doing fine. Carry on as you are putting in the flats ( base colours ) and then add your shades. I find it is better to work from light to dark when vectoring ( as opposed to dark to light as I have become accustomed to doing when colouring or painting )

I've got a bit better since then but it drives me crazy, I'd rather paint or shop purple cocks.
This was about the last vector I did and was just an experiment in shade hence it being grayscale.

Best way to get it right
Is use the colour picker to pick out the lightest tone, then the next lightest, and so on. And good luck, faces are a bitch.

It was a program called ResHack or something, I think. I made it say "Shut Up" instead of "Shut Down"...
But this was WinME. Might not work on the new thing.

I've been busy
doing video tutorials. This is from an original sketch in pencil by Philip Tan ( I think ). Then Brian Haberlin of http://www.digitalarttutorials.com shows how to paint it in a tutorial ( video tutorial you have to buy them ). Excellent stuff I used his grayscale smudge image to save me a lot of time and effort but eventually came up with this.
