Fourth EVER Derby Bash!Yes, yes, I know it's ages away yet but our usual venue gets booked up pretty early so I took the opportunity to reserve the room last night whilst *ahem* visiting the establishment.
I'll be updating with more concrete information closer to the actual bash but for now I'll leave a few handy bits here to help people and hopefully convince you to sign up sooner rather than later!

The bash is at 'The Blessington Carriage', commonly known as 'The Bless'. We have the upstairs function room booked so we will have the full run of a pretty excellent space, plus our own bar complete with solitary barperson to traumatise and generally perplex.
I'm thinking a kick off of about 5:30pm again, we'll have our bar open from about then anyway, but as usual myself and the fine Professor KM will be milling around getting up to mischief from about 4pm. If you want to make an earlier start that's fine too, the main pub (ie downstairs) is open normal hours.
Carpark opposite the pub:
Basically, it's £1 all evening if you arrive after 6pm.
Hotels:
Rough list here
The International is just 60 seconds from our flat (10 mins from the pub) which has some very mixed reviews online, but a few people we know have stayed there and haven't had any complaints.
Another option is the Heritage Hotel which is in the town centre.
We have a Holiday Inn/Express, and similar place (the name escapes me, I'll update this when I next pass it. Edit: 'Premier Lodge' I think), they're both a taxi-ride from the Bless but still pretty close.
We also have a new Etap which as a general rule is only one step up from a hostel, but is always very cheap - £32 flat rate for a room that sleeps 3 (single bunk bed over a double). This is an excellently cheap place to lay your head but has a shower closet rather than seperate bathroom- ie you'll have to know your room-mates well enough to be getting changed in the same room!
Also, it's just under 6 miles from the venue, so, y'know- expensive taxi perhaps.
UPDATE 07/09/09: The new Jurys Inn in the city centre is actually open now, which I hadn't realised before, it appears to be £49 a night for a room with a double and single bed (3 people), advance rate, £55 usually. Nice.
Kippage:
a) There is a highly limited and somewhat theoretical number of kippage spaces again this year, but last years 'experience' has taught me that I'm going to have to allocate space to people.
We only have a small flat guys, the figure I gave last year was the maximum we can accomodate on comfy surfaces and it relies heavily on people sharing what little space there is. Loads of people ask each year so please only request kippage space if you really need it and we'll see what we can do :)
b) Please let me know if you are local and can help out with giving some fellow internet weirdos somewhere to lay their heads.
Live stuff:
There will almost certainly be live music again this year, though set up so it can actually be heard properly by most this time!
Watch this space for actual line up, but I can assure you that it will be SEXY. Oh yes.
01/09/09- IMPORTANT UPDATE
Kippage: The crack den is now occupied on a semi-permanent basis and so kippage is greatly reduced, to the point where I don't feel comfortable promising crash space to people.
I know this is a fucker, but if your attendance is literally hingeing on having somewhere to stay then POST HERE as there are still a few things to be done
1- maybe someone has a spare bed in their hotel room and would like to split the cost (the Etap is ridiculously cheap, hostel prices so excellent for sharing...though also very basic as I've pointed out above)
2- Caewan has said that he may have some crash space and is also in the area, if anyone else is local these days then please let me know.
3- I still have a sofa and a floor, if you really can't find anywhere to lay your head for the night then I may still be able to put you but please, please only ask if you really need to as I'm expecting there to be a few people who do and I don't want people to not be able to come just because they are struggling for somewhere to stay!

With the bash near upon us I just thought I'd do a final(ish?) update.

- Is anyone still struggling for accomodation? Post below.
- It's a reasonably short jaunt from the train station to the Bless but if anyone is struggling to make it or (is like me and) gets lost easily then post below and we may be able to arrange lifts or groups.
Infact, if you are arriving by train then you might as well post when you get in as I know last year people waited for each other when they were arriving at similar times.

Yeah, we have had food stuffs and oddness pretty much every yearWe're in the function room upstairs, not the main bar, so they pretty much overlook whatever.
As for the 'trendy types' taking over, no.
There's always someone willing to put the place down on reviews and stuff it seems, but in the years I've been having this bash there, and the occasions when I've been in the pub itself, I've only ever seen a medley of 'other' types and I consider it my relief from the usual bullshit of a town bar and the types it attracts.
Good music, decent selection of alcomahols, chilled patrons- personally I've never seen a problem with the place.

I don't have any dressy up clothes any moreWell I do but they look silly, not that I mind looking silly, I very often wear clothes far too big for me but that's only because I'm cheap and normally I don't care how I look. But this is the Derby bash and I want to look 1/2 decent so maybe 3/4 length combats and a hoodie, maybe jeans and a short sleeve shirt, I just don't know. I'm sure I'll buy something completely different on Saturday then spend hours trying to choose between them :S
