it's to Peter Mandelson this time. He wants to cut off people's household internet connections if he suspects them of filesharing. What a meanie

brilliant!
i would rant about filesharing but i honestly dont know where to start...
It hasn't damaged the industry, people arn't buying as much media because we are in the middle of a rescession, if they stopped me file sharing i wouldn't decide i absolutly need to buy the new britany spears album i just do without it.
I will always pay money for the things I think are worth it, if their not I may download the one good single off the album, sorry for stealing the 99p it would have cost off Itunes.
but then even if I didn't download it, i could still hear it legally any time i want on Last fm or similar. the only difference is i have the freedom to listen to it when im not near a computer.
The only thing I really use torrents for are tv shows / anime, stuff that i could watch on tv a couple of days later, i just prefer to keep up to date with the american air date. why should i get my internet shut off for that? also there are a lot of perfectly legal applications for file sharing, they can't possibly monitor everyones incomings and outgoings so how will they know what is intelectual property and what is freeware?
I suspect at the end of the day I doubt it will happen, ISP is a lucrative business, if they shut down the internet then the ISPs arn't going to be getting £50 a month for my broadband connection, and they arn't going to like that at all...
oh what do you know, guess i did manage to rant... sorry

Where record sales are down, ticket sales for gigs are at an all time high. Any musician worth their salt should be able draw a live crowd and make a living from it.

Isn't it amazing how
Mandelson gets bought lunch by David Geffen or Rupert Murdoch and suddenly starts passing laws in their favour, yet receivng massive paycheques and expenses from the British taxpayer for twenty years buys no loyalty whatsoever?
By the way, that was great

You really are super at this kind of thing!
In this modern age of touchy-feely emailable politicians, there must be a way of forwarding this onto someone in his office / department that would see it.

sadly there is no onus on mandelson to please voters.
he's unelected. he doesn't have to worry about re-election and is hence able to be more up front about his lack of giving a shit than the other cunts.

If it wasn't for file sharing a lot of things I own and love would never have been bought. I've got a good few crap things I bought before I discovered the wonders on the internet, which really let me down once I watched/listened/used them, but because I had watched/listened/used them I couldn't take them back!
I use it as a try before I buy. Apparently A LOT of file sharing pirates do this and are more likely to buy things than people who do thing legit. The media wouldn't point this out though. It's not exciting and scandalous...
