I watched the first episode of it years ago, and it was just fucking dog shit - all voice overs telling us what we were fucking looking at on the screen "Yes I can clear see that you stupid whimsy" - utter shite.
Then some eejit told us it was good in the second season, so I tried it again and made it maybe 20 minute in before "Seriously what the fuck is wrong with the writer of this piss" and turning it off again.

It brings me great joy to see that it's still got all the same minging pompous self-important ball bag bollocks even after all these years - and only have to spend a couple of minutes confirming that.

Thank you colmcq2 for this great service.

This is a normal post I had this discussion with my cousin once choosing pizzas until his girlfriend cracked the shits at our stoner nerdery and made us choose
I made the point that it depends on how much you value the non ingredient covered crust. Given a generally fixed distance from the edge until the topping starts, with a larger diameter pizza you lose a several cm2 more topping than the smaller pizza, and you should factor this in to any area comparison
(, Thu 18 May 2023, 10:18, Reply)
This is a normal post Larger, yes, but...
Quote: "with a larger diameter pizza you lose a several cm2 more topping than the smaller pizza, "

Yes, but you lose less proportionally. I.e. in the smaller pizzas, the crust is a bigger proportion of the whole (assuming, as you said, the same width of crust on both)
(, Thu 18 May 2023, 14:31, Reply)
This is a normal post The benefit for buying the large pizza
is even more if you discount the crust. If the crust was (to take it to extremes) 5 inches thick, then you would get no toppings at all on the 10" pizzas and 5" of toppings on the 15" pizza.

To nerd out, 1" of discounted crust changes the area of the 10" pizzas from 50 sq inches to 40.5 sq inches, and on the 15" pizza it changes the area from 56.25 sq inches to 49 sq inches. This would mean the ratio changes from 1.125:1 to 1.21:1 (15":10").

Of course, as said here already, stuffed crust changes the whole deal because with the 2 10" pizzas, you get an extra 5 inches of crust compared to the 15". It doesn't IMO make up for the loss of 8.5 square inches of toppings to get 5 inches of stuffed crust. It may even be that the crust on a stuffed crust is larger than on a standard pizza, which just complicates things even more.

Let's just have a curry instead, eh?
(, Thu 18 May 2023, 14:56, Reply)
This is a normal post This may be true, but if you’re comparing value it’s the area of topping you get for the money
Not the ratio. You don’t eat ratios. And that’s just the ratio of the radii. The outer ring that the larger pizza generates will always have a larger surface area for the same radial segment distance if it’s further way from the centre, despite have a lower radial ratio for the inner radius. Anyway, I can hear her yelling at me to just buy the family pepperoni and be done with it

Or in this particular case, the footnotes:

“As a general clarification, ounce for ounce, coal ash released from a power plant delivers more radiation than nuclear waste shielded via water or dry cask storage.”

So we’re comparing apples and oranges, then implying that one of those is a banana.
(, Tue 16 May 2023, 20:49, Reply)
This is a normal post Only if you don't understand.
A coal power plant releases more radiation than a nuclear plant, as your numbers clarify.

Mining practically anything releases Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (mostly radon gas but also some much nastier stuff).

Refining practically anything that's mined also produces NORMs. But unlike oil and gas, the burning of coal also produces NORMs.

Unlike with nuclear power stations, coal waste is just chucked into the environment. It's packed full of other nasty poisons and pollutants. It has (at least indirectly) contributed to the deaths of *millions* of people, and has a terrible effect on biodiversity and habitat loss. Coal is the worst of the worst. Best left buried.
(, Tue 16 May 2023, 21:08, Reply)
This is a normal post Not disputing that
I’m disputing whether the effect is significant enough to warrant mentioning it whether it’s just another radiation scare story.

“At one extreme, the scientists estimated fly ash radiation in individuals' bones at around 18 millirems ”

For comparison:
“Each banana can emit .01 millirem” - source: www.epa.gov/radtown/natural-radioactivity-food

So a worst case estimate makes it equivalent to 1800 bananas. Or three per day.

I think you may need some perspective.
(, Tue 16 May 2023, 23:02, Reply)

A banana a day will actually reduce your risk of cancer. Suffering a steam train to exist will increase your risk of cancer.

This is a normal post I wouldn't be surprised if the 'going slow' in recent years isn't due to delays loading and offloading in ports or a hope of seeing the benefits of contango
this is, after all, the same shipping industry that repeatedly kept extending the deadline for doing anything about carbon emissions

Would you just look at all that lovely steam and carbon being deposited into the atmosphere... the trees and plants are sure going to love soaking it all up to keep us stupid twats alive for a tiny bit longer :)

I cannot open another copy after the time they featured celebrity software thief and probable nonce Bill Gates (who has very little influence over the content) as their page 7 stunner, pouting with his saggy man boobs on full display.

Just read about that on beeb. Fucking disgusting.
Probably kids, prank... sounds like they caught 'em.
I thought maybe they'd hacked in, but it sounds like they just used the intercom, from what I gather.

It makes no sense, and smacks of a desperate middle manager with no idea what to say that doesn't amount to "we employ Nazis".

This is a normal post Mr Stoegmueller said the train staff were unable to stop the recording and were unable to make their own announcements. "One crew member was really upset," he added.
"But the other two were strangely gleeful. We have opened an investigation."

This is a normal post According to the Grauniad, they had a key to the driver's compartment.
But they definitely weren't employees, no sirree. And they definitely didn't drive the train because then it would have been on time lolololol

Just from reading an article which quotes an Austrian Federal Railways statement saying "We can currently assume that the announcements were made by people directly on the train via intercoms"? Your gathering skills are massive.
