Love to see him offered a knighthood at this point. Reckon he'd bite their hand off.

Suspect he came up with that sobriquet himself
Now he has endorsements from Ann Widdecombe and hangs about in the same circles as the Archbishop of Canterbury (whilst sneering at "the great and the good"!).
He's the establishment's idea of what a satirist should be - public school, Oxbridge, tory and tame. And when the time comes he'll disappoint all his geriatric fanboys by taking that gong without a hint of shame.

Tory?
He certainly hides it well by decades of constant derision towards them, and hiring writers like Paul foot. I mean he’s not an ex miner selling copies of the socialist worker, or whatever it is you think gives one integrity, but there’s been quite a few notable victories over the years because he’s persued those causes, the post office horizon shitfuckery just being the latest.

"...hangs about in the same circles as the Archbishop of Canterbury"
... where he recently publicly took Welby to task about his cover up of the abuse of John Smyth (a story Private Eye had been covering for years). Private Eye (as I'm sure you know) turns over rocks and pokes sticks into dark corners with stories that are often overlooked by the mainstream media companies and frequently with embarrassing consequences for the "establishment". The Eye (and a few others, like Computer Weekly) were famously documenting the Post Office scandal for years before it became a cause celebre. I think they are even namechecked in "Mr Bates Vs The Post Office".

Or ordinary people who want to see a light shone on corruption, malpractice and criminal behaviour in politics, law, utilities, transport, local government, medicine, business, media, the arts, agriculture, defence, education, etc, etc, that often goes unreported elsewhere.
Private Eye is doing good stuff, and it is great to see a printed publication surviving and still doing good journalism. Long may they continue.

Aside from Post Office Horizon, they did a great edition on covid racketeering and are pretty much the only part of the press covering the jiggery-pokery in Teesside. The rest of the press is mostly opinion columns and dancing contests.

After some mentalist phase posting how I was part of some wider B3tan conspiracy cabal bent on evil, I think because I didn’t display the necessary outrage in replying to someone he was disagreeing with, though it was a little difficult to decipher what he was going on about.
Besides, our group’s strategically placed hidden cameras in his bedsit show that he’s not looking at this vid but is currently wanking over AI-generated Liz Truss POV porn where she repeatedly calls him a disgrace

Commodore 64 game or a real ale?
A google forms quiz, reckon this will tick a couple of boxes for the /links readership, if you get what I mean. I mean everyone here is a real ale twat and a nerd from the 80s, and comfortable with that. I didn't make it, found it on Bluesky.

Pong Clock
I missed out on a custom hardware Pong Clock some years ago produced by Sander Mulder. Only a limited run were produced and they were likely out of my price range at the time anyway. A screen saver version was released that I had on my XP machine for years and I loved it. Here is my browser based version based on Sander's work. Once running, click/tap the screen for authentic SFX

To reflect regional variations they're adding the Nationwide theme and having Troughton regenerate accompanied by Richard Stilgoe on the piano with a regeneration song

I suspect we wouldn't be given a choice.
I reckon the country going to war would be hugely beneficial from a societal standpoint. We've absolutely fucked it since the last one.
We'd lose a few folk, but that's probably for the best too. Puts things in perspective and all that.
Plus, it'd be quite exciting.

Ok, so that's the how. What's missing is the why.
Why would Russia launch such an attack? Why would that not invoke NATO article 5 and thereby cause a devastating response?
( , Sun 24 Nov 2024, 9:46, Reply)
With nations like the US and China adopting a Launch-on-Warning response
And Russia's Perimeter System still fully operational (depending on who you ask), I suspect the apocalypse will end up being completely unintentional. It's only a matter or time before an Able Archer or Norwegian Rocket Incident ends in catastrophe.
I mean, the incoming US Secretary of Defense believes the earth was created 10,000 years ago and that dinosaur fossils are the result of the animals that didn't make it onto the ark in time.
That fuckwit might not have any direct control over the USA's nuclear arsenal, but I can't imagine that we're in significantly better hands with the people who do.

Not disagreeing with that, but it doesn't explain why Russia would choose to launch a massive conventional attack against just the UK. Our best defence against such an attack isn't missile systems or early warning radar, it's article 5.
