This is why I love Clarkson. Some people think he's a twat - and, to be fair, they're probably right. He does something completely stupid to prove a point. I suppose I see him as a real life Alan Partridge (wasn't Partridge partly based on him?...) in that I find im hilarious, but it's always funny when he makes an arse of himself.

Edit: This is brilliant:

Clarkson now says of the case: "Contrary to what I said at the time, we must go after the idiots who lost the discs and stick cocktail sticks in their eyes until they beg for mercy."

(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 13:06, Reply)
This is a normal post Completely agree..
..the simpsons has gone flat over the last 6-7 years, the new animation, changes in everyone's voices as well as a few other things have brought it down a few pegs since some of the earlier episodes.

Homer getting his head stuck in the closing bridge has to be one of my favourite old-skool Simpsons moments of all time.

(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 13:12, Reply)
This is a normal post Actually I thought the film saved the whole franchise..
..especially since they were able to use more family-unfriendly humour.

I know there's a debate about how Family Guy has copied the Simpsons over the years but I think that's all bollocks. The Simpsons seems to be turning into Family Guy by constantly using slapstick in the wrong places and making references to people nobody else besides US Citizens have heard of.
(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 13:16, Reply)
This is a normal post My thought on the film?
1. If it was four seperate episodes, they would probably be seen as the four worst episodes ever.

2. If it was a live action comedy about a dysfunctional family (as in, one that weren't a representation of the Simpsons) the plot would be critisized to hell.

(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 14:10, Reply)
This is a normal post I think the point is...
you're supposed to compare the animated segment of the clip with your memory of the original sequence. Although it's from the videogame, the article claims it was animated by the current Simpsons animation team.
Certainly, when I watched the posted clip, I did feel that it lacked all the charm of the original. Sure, it's not very fair without a side by side comparison, but it made enough of an impression on me to consider the animation as a potential factor in the Simpsons' decline. Not that my opinion on the subject matters, of course, this is the Internet after all.

but he claims the animation in the show has declined, and then uses animation that isn't even from the show.
(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 15:25, Reply)
This is a normal post I see your point
but I think what he's trying to does make sense. Essentially all he's doing is comparing the original animation style with the new one. To do that he's tried to compare the same scene in both the old and new style. It's as close to a fair test as is possible.
Also, the fact that it is from the game isn't such a big deal. It's the only opportunity to compare the same scene in the two different styles. The fact it's not in the show doesn't harm his arguement - the important aspects are still there: it's made by the team who make the new style of animation and it appears to have been produced to just a high a standard.
His arguement seems fine to me.

(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 16:34, Reply)
This is a normal post I must agree with you lot... sort of
Old simpsons were unfunny wank that somehow managed to spawn its way onto tv and then employ some decent writers and animators (do you know that Matt Groening has no control over any subject/writing/animation anymore?) Although I will admit that the latter stuff is more bizarre in a Family Guy or American Dad sense and sadly doesn't manage to catch up with what they do. Still funny though and the movie was only a let-down to people who thought it was going to be a life changing gag-a-thon that they could tell their grand-kids about. It was funny but it was no Ernest Goes Camping
(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 17:08, Reply)
This is a normal post The Simpsons
ceased being funny when they decided that "WHACKY SIMPSONS ADVENTURE TIME" was funnier than a satirical view of your average American working man and his family.

For me the funniest sequences are:

1) Homer jumps the chasm on the skateboard

2) Bart steals the money jar (ala Raiders of Lost Ark)
(, Mon 7 Jan 2008, 17:33, Reply)
This is a normal post Raving, drooling, ROFLing Homer devotee though I am,
I think it lost it around the time they realised he and his stupidity was a far bigger banker with an audience tiring of Bart yelling 'eat my shorts'. The golden Homer segments/scenes used to be like little glorious treasures that would drop 6 or 7 times per episode, and really lift it into something massively memorable. Then, when they realised everybody was kind of sitting around waiting for those bits, they just vamped up his previously endearing stupidity to the level of dribbling mental retardation, and devoted him 85% of every episode to it.

You CAN have too much of a good thing - exactly the same happened with Family Guy, surprise surprise, with the whole needlessly extended flashback/repetition sequences thing, and in about every other long-running comedy in almost any format. People eventually run out of ideas, which is why all the comedy shows that come closest to reaching 'beyond reproach' status ran for like 12-40 episodes, then stopped.

This is a normal post What point?
The footage is from the game. It looks to me like they had to contend with animating ten frames a second rather than 24, and probably on a much lower budget. It may well have been a completely different team.

If it was two similar scenes from old and new TV episodes, he might have a point. I'm not entirely sure what his point is though.
