Terrifying Birthday poetry
I am not the best poet. But I know what I like.
the line
"A birthday is seldom, a serious occasion,
Try not to take it, like the d-day invasion."
Is not a good bit of birthday poetry. Of course I have printed some of these out and written them into a card for our pregnant office managers birthday....

Sounds unlikely!
I know that some use chromatophores which are coloured cells that can be expanded or contracted, so expand all the red ones and hey presto your red. I didn't know octopi could change the texture so much though.

Ecclesiastes 1:9
I still love Tarantino, though - partly because of this (and he knows exactly what he's doing, as does everyone else - it's not as though he's trying to pull a fast one on anyone). The older I get the more I admire his filmmaking.

Enzyme, what I admire most about him is he built himself up.
He used to work in a video shop & self educated there, he proved to the
rest of us that "the person from the street" can still do it & didn't need
to come from a privileged background. It's also worth noting that
Spielberg's "education" is quite similar, he learned his skill from
working in the editing room & splicing discarded scenes of movies
together for an "alternative shot".

Well, yes.
But that's not what makes him a great in my eyes. What makes him great is that he understands how cinema works, and how storytelling works. He's not just a stylish re-user of ideas - though he is that - but he's also someone who has something interesting to say about the world and the way it's ciphered.
Or summat.

Bah. Thing is, if you're also a film geek it's very disappoiting watching Tarantino.
Kill Bill 1 & 2 - recognised most of the influences and set pieces, which are abuot 75% of the film. The rrest is awful dialogue, which I alwyas thought was his greatest strength, even if weveryone in his films is basically Tarantino. You should watch kermodes review of Kill Bill. Kill Bill sucks so hard (and JAckie Brown is the best)

Inglorious Basterds I liked, not so much Kill Bill to be honest.
Certainly didn't rate Inception though. Nice idea, but found that the technique got in the way. And that sequence on the mountain in the snow was like bad Bond. Wouldn't necessarily rate Kermode either - he thought Star Trek was good!;-)

I'd never heard of nano thermite before you mentioned it
So I went and did a bit of reading.
Aside from a bunch of truthers breathlessly screaming about it, it doesn't appear to exist outside of a research environment. Now if it had been such a spectacular success on such an enormous scale, do you think it would still be confined to the lab?
I'm fully expecting in 50 years time a report to be released by self-declared "scholars" claiming proof the supporting girders were cut by phased plasma rifles.

Nanothermite...
Is aluminium and titanium based.
Guess which materials feature heavily in aircraft construction?
Given these metals and the intense heat aviation fuel generates (up to and even exceeding 1000 degrees C given the right circumstance), plus the shitload of other materials used in the construction of the WTC. It's not inconceivable that any supposed traces of Nanothermite could just be the result of the billions of chemical and physical reactions that take place when a plane crashes in to a building, then millions of tons of rubble collapsing in on itself.
I'm sure scientists could have found traces of things that could suggest almost anything in the rubble if they looked for it hard enough.

are you seriously comparing a small story building during an earthquake in Haiti with the the WTC 7 steel constructed tower in NY?
this building supposedly collapsed from random fires and debri damage,, strange how neatly and swifty it collapses, yes?
"One of the most interesting tenants was then-Mayor Giuliani's Office of Emergency Management, and its emergency command center on the 23rd floor. This floor received 15 million dollars worth of renovations, including independent and secure air and water supplies, and bullet and bomb resistant windows designed to withstand 200 MPH winds."

are you seriously comparing a small story building during an earthquake in Haiti with the the WTC 7 steel constructed tower in NY?
this building supposedly collapsed from random fires and debri damage,, strange how neatly and swifty it collapses, yes?

yup
I for one would like to know more about building 7 and that pentagon place that got hit just where they kept the records of all that missing money. I do have a lot of questions myself as it happens.
there, I said it.

And Dr. Kelley.
And a ton of other things. PNAC, for example.
I didn't watch the link. But as an American who watched this crap from the moment it happened, I am amazed at how poorly the whole thing played out. Bush and Cheney going to their commission hand in hand, not under oath. What's with that?
Oops. I should have never posted this.

agreed
also strange how coincidently Cheney was overseeing a Norad exercise of simulating hijacked planes hitting towers on US northern coastline that day. so they never intercepted the hijacked planes because they thought they were part of those exercises. Exercises were called Northern Guardian and Vigilance.
Nothing strange in that!

Hopefully he will get the help he needs.

My sister and her friend went to this exercise club thing the other night (having dumped her kids on me)
Only to visit the pub afterwards and stay there till about midnight! needless to say, I was too tired to get angry. I know this isn't any interest to anyone but I'm pissed and I just needed to tell everyone that. Goodnight.

A survey of New York City's vice trade.
A Columbia University professor spends a year earning the trust of nearly
300 of the city's sex industry workers & puts this report together. It
mainly shows the difference that hi-tech (mobiles, internet) has made to it.
I'll risk the NSFW but will change that if told otherwise.
