However RATMs assertion that he's a failed politician is amusingly inaccurate, given that the man literally had one objective which he pursued tenaciously for decades despite numerous setbacks, and one which he finally realised. To call him a failure at this point is just churlish.

The discussion about whether he is the machine or is against it is also rather daft... it's impossible to say without an unambiguous definition of 'the machine'.

He's a proven liar, adulterer, and embezzler of EU funds. I call that failure. He lied to the British public shored up by Russian money, and the gullible public swallowed up the lies from a proven liar. He is a dismal failure, however you look at it.

The sanctimony about adultery is worthy of the Daily Mail. Embezzlement? Show me a politician anywhere in the world that doesn't take the piss with their expenses. Even the EU itself isn't great at keeping the books straight, although things aren't as bad as they were in the nineties. The best even their own proganda machine can come up with is "largely error free" (http://fullfact.org/europe/did-auditors-sign-eu-budget/). Source on the Russian money claim?

This is a normal post How is that answering my question?
However, I know how a very close opinion poll should be handled - By consulting both sides and trying to represent both sets of the population, rather than alienating 50% of people (either way). There's lots of precedent for this, including the Danish referendum where their "stay" vote won by a very slender margin, so they sat down with representatives from both side to try and address the fears/views of the leaver vote to make them feel included.

Also democracy gives you the chance to fix an error every "x" years. Democracy allows for change. This brexit debacle does not. Just shouting DEMOCRACY isn't a valid argument here (We also would have had a hung parliament with this split if this had been a general election which would have forced comprimise).

Hope that clears things up for you and you can now feel free to answer in kind?
(, Mon 12 Mar 2018, 15:16, Reply)
This is a normal post "x" years is correct, but you remoaners don't WANT to wait "x" years, do you? And "This isn't how democracy is supposed to work" is a direct quote from a remaintard.
So yeah, my point is valid. Oh, and in case you didn't notice, we HAD a hung parliament in the last two general elections. The bedwetting hand-wringers so beloved of /links propped up the tories in the first, and the DUP in the last one. As for change, what is Brexit if not a change?

This is a normal post All of those things you mentioned are irrelevant.
He wanted to get Britain out of the EU; Britain is leaving the EU.

The register of attendance to discussions about fish quotas isn't of any consequence.

He didn't want EU policies to be altered, he wanted them gone.

Lies, adultery, and embezzlement (watch out though, that's probably libellous), whether true or not, have nothing to do with the fact that Britain is leaving the EU.

He may well have lied to the public, and been shored up by Russian money. He may have done any amount of reprehensible shit. The net result is still the same. Just because the bully lies, cheats and breaks all the rules doesn't mean he can't punch you in the face; having the moral high ground doesn't allow you to change the facts of a situation to reflect the reality that you think is fair.

Like it or not, the one thing he wanted to happen is happening, and while I understand you hate that fact and this man with a passion, it's still a fact, and still 100% of that man's stated goals achieved.
(, Mon 12 Mar 2018, 11:06, Reply)
This is a normal post He's like a musician who covered someone else's song
then found that another version was much more successful than his.

Just because he was campaigning for brexit doesn't mean that the vote to leave was down to him. He didn't start UKIP. He didn't come up with the idea of leaving the EU. He wasn't the only one campaigning for it - his wasn't even the official leave campaign. His vision of the UK out of the EU is one of several competing ideas of what could or should happen and nobody with half a braincell listens to his interminable drivel.

He is a very successful self-publicsit (papers and telly love him - he gives great quotes), but a dismal failure as a politician.

He want's another referendum because it's his only hit and he wants to be back in the charts.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 13:46, Reply)
This is a normal post I agree with much of this but...
Official smofficial. That was the choice of the civil service run Electoral Commission. The fact remains that the Remain campaign treated him as part of the official Leave campaign, as did the media, regardless the fact he wasn't. He deserved and had earnt this by forcing Cameron's hand into having a referendum. That was a huge triumph and he did it pretty much single handedly. But it is true it wasn't him that won he actual Leave vote itself alone. But getting he vote to actually happen, than was hugely down to him. I thought he was just offf the cuff joking about a second referendum. Whatever, he's a spent force now, but was a highly successful one trick pony.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 15:49, Reply)
This is a normal post I dunno. I don't see it.
He reminds of a business man I worked for. Very successful, in his own business. Every other line he tried to get into, every other enterprise was a total fucking disaster. People thought he was amazing for a long time, he wrote a book and got lauded for his acumen, but he only had one string to his bow and he's been an embittered cunt ever since and nobody pays him any attention now the novelty's worn off. Turned to Jesus in the end because everyone else thinks he's a twat.

I don't credit Farage with any ability other than being able to speak clearly and loudly in such a way that he looks and sounds coherent. He's like Richard Madely without the charm and intellect. He's no more capable than Katie Hopkins, and just as successful in a niche, and as useless in a broader sense.

This isn't a case of not being a fan of him or his politics, but Nigel Farage was only on the side of success due to being in the right place at the right time. He's singularly failed to achieve anything on the back of it.

As a one-issue campaigner he was amazing and got more airtime and publicity than anyone could have imagined.

As a politician he will go down in history as a phantom shit, where you expected a poo but only did a small guff.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 18:04, Reply)
This is a normal post I kind of agree with you but I think you place way too much expectation on him.
I'm not sure anyone believed he was a noble and decent man who would achieve and accomplish great things. He was a one dimensional catalyst that brought about seismic change. His impact on Britain and by extension the EU was way more significant than either Cameron or Brown, despite being nothing more than a very minor outsider. That's quite an achievement, not even being an MP, but bringing about a referendum that changed the direction of U.K. politics forever.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 18:41, Reply)
This is a normal post Catalyst, yes, but actual engineer of brexit?
It took a lot of factors to make it happen and he was one of many that went into the result, and more people voted to leave despite of him than because of him - if he, himself, had mass appeal beyond one single issue he would have been elected to parliament.

I guess if you're saying that for someone with no newspaper, no constituency, no publishing empire, no peerage etc he got a lot of airtime and became the choice of the media as spokesman for one of the biggest issues of his time - yes. You're right.

However, I think he's a loser. He's got what he campaigned for but I can't help look at the man and see someone who would have liked to lose (I'm afraid I don't see any joke in his wish for another referendum - he wanks himself off in a frenzy to the thought of all that attention again) - his career is over now. He has no purpose. The party he led has no reason to exist. He's had his moments of fame and he's got celebrity big brother to look forward to. He'll do the whole George Galloway in a couple of years, mark my words.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 20:21, Reply)
This is a normal post Yeah I'm down with pretty much all of that.
Except without him, Dave wouldn't have been cowed into calling a referendum. People seem to have forgotten that Cameron called and lost that vote. I don't hate Farage like you do, obnoxious prat that he is, nor do I think he's a loser, but Dave, now there's a real loser weasel.
(, Sun 11 Mar 2018, 21:22, Reply)
This is a normal post I don't disagree with most of that,
But I'd say that it really doesn't matter who came up with the ideas originally; If Corbyn were to become PM and put socialist policies in place, would he be a failure because all his songs are Karl Marx covers?

If Farage's aim was to be a career politician then he should be seen as a failure, but that was clearly a means to an end. The only reasonable measure of success is to examine someone's goals and whether they have been achieved. His only stated goal has basically been achieved, whether it was his doing or not.
(, Mon 12 Mar 2018, 10:45, Reply)
This is a normal post Corbyn would be a failure
if he lost an election to another left-wing party. Then you'd be may say he got what he wanted and would be a success, whereas I'd think him a failure because he was not the one doing it.

I don't think Farage's aim was just to win the referendum. I don't think that at all. He, clearly, wanted to be part of the process. He desperately and hilariously craves power, publicity and recognition.

I think he's a failure.

Apparently not - interesting comment from someone who seems to know about spiders part way down the page:

"I love this! But there's a level of bullshit here (entomology nerd talking).

These spiders are not falling or ballooning. They are suspended in their webs. Spiders can only balloon after they have just hatched, when they are the size of the head of a pin. Adults cannot or do not do it. It happens all the time, but since the slings (nerd talk for "spiderlings") are so tiny we only notice their fine silk strands hanging on grasses and trees. In fact many comment on how beautiful the "angel hair" is.

Second, the spiders in the video and those in the stills are not the same genus, much less the same species. Those in the video appear to be Angulate, those in the stills are genus Nephila. Both are fairly large orb weavers, very shy and gentle and cute and harmless. If they're disturbed they run away or play dead.

Spiders "escaping floods" (in Australia?) somehow keeps popping up on these faux articles in order to justify some kind of frightening behavior. Spiders don't run from floods. They drown.

This is not spiders "falling" over Brazil but shots from two unrelated events where an unusual concentration of spiders created a "bloom" over an isolated area. Happens every once in awhile.

Here's me with a friendly Nephila. Enjoy!"

It was just a college project, but we sounded quite tight. Could have taken it down 10bpm and it would have loosened up nicely, but hey - I was 19!

This is a normal post I read the full thread when she first posted it. It's quite the monument to living in denial.
Her rejection of science puts her on par with flat earthers. If you're obese and don't want to change, fine, but denying the huge amount of evidence pointing to it being a very unhealthy life choice is just moronic.

He's an awesome magician. I've read his notes on how to perform some of his tricks and I've just given up as the skill required is just stupid. The way he controls cards is insane.

This is a normal post I've just started dipping into card tricks, primarily to understand how they are done
many of them are simple in principal, but the skill is remarkable
(, Sat 10 Mar 2018, 9:40, Reply)
This is a normal post His skill is phenomenal
Even when you know what’s going on it’s just ... wow.

And that “sloppy” approach makes things harder rather than easier!

Talking of card magic, I’ve recently been failing to get the hang of “master pushoff” by Andi Gladwin, who used to be a b3tan back in the day.

This is a link post For a mere £1,600.00 you can have your own Bayeux Tapestry to add some crudely drawn cocks to
"The Tapestry contains 632 human figures, 202 horses, 55 dogs, 505 other creatures (real and mythological), 37 buildings (including the earliest depiction of Westminster Abbey), 41 ships and nearly 2,000 Latin letters – a staggering achievement."
Yet no CDCs. Folio Society missed a selling point there. As did the maker of the original. It could have had them in stitches.
