I have redesigned b3ta. I quite like the way it is now, so it's only a few functional changes and some design/theme changes. Firstly, to give you an idea of what I've done, here's the new-look homepage (all images are linked, as they're HUGE):
Clicky
Then there's the way the new boards avoid all that scrolling:
Threads Closed You'd click on those triangles on the side to expand the thread. Then they'd look like this:
Thread Opened You would click on the triangle again to collapse the view back to how it looks above.
I've always fancied having a go at a redesign, and I quite like this. Please note I have nothing to do with the actual admin of b3ta, and I'm not suggesting it *should* be changed. It's just there's always been talk from a few posters about the current style of b3ta, and I thought I'd address some of the issues without going all Web 2.0 crazy. Really, this is just to get some idea of what most people would like b3ta to be, even though I am not in control of what goes on here. Please don't take this too seriously, and don't yell at me if you don't like it, as I'm actually quite depressed today, and I don't need it. Comment away.

I like the show/hide replys thing. Although personally I would have the arrow that you click in the place of the paper icon of the current posts. You could have it go red when there are new replys that you haven't seen that are hidden. This would also work nicely on the QOTW where you would be able to see the repys without opening a new tab or window.
The extra boards are an interesing idea. It probably wouldn't stop people shouting at others for posting the wrong kind of stuff on the board though... Still, I like it.

So Mofaha, Killer Kitti, Tsattssr, Walrus Man, etc. who all post arty things most of the time can have their own area, and likewise for those that post humorous images. Not because I want segregation, but so that when someone posts some nice art thing on a Weds evening, it doesn't disappear in seconds. This way, the board's talents are still catered for, and everything has a better chance of being seen. It works with the open/close threads too, as conversations are not so limited by time as they are now. People tend to stop posting in a thread after 4 new ones are created.

With the opened/closed threads.. I see a mixed blessing.
Some of my favourite pictures are those which the authors have deemed "not worth its own thread", and I might lose some of those.
But, of course, there are good points to it, too, such as the decrease in required scrolling.
At work, I find the grey useful because, to the untrained eye, it looks pretty mundane and a little work-ish. Bright blue seems to shout out "LOOK AT ME, FOR I AM NOT WORK RELATED!", and bosses might notice that.

How about a compo to design a new look for b3ta?

It's not a major point!
I had a thought that people could design a new theme for b3ta through a compo: everyone designs a new button for one of the bits on the board, and then for one week, b3ta looks like a ramshackle collection of misfitting delirium.

The colours need to be MUCH more subtle. The blue/dark blue replies need to be similar colours as those stripes just hurt the eyes. Imagine scrolling down that page! The tabs, should you insist on them (I don't like the idea, personally) should be close together and use something other than a cheap gradient. Furthermore I do NOT like the idea of open and closed threads. It'll just isolate people who aren't in a certain 'friends group'. What about humourous image replies also? Yeah, the main picture may not take your fancy, but what fantastic japery may be hidden in the thread? What the SHITTING FUCK is 'art' and 'humour' boards. No. Just... No.

Whilst you have created something, ultimately you have used a form which is equatable to Conceptual art, somewhat acceptable, but ultimately a tad cliche and irritating, yet popular to survive elsewhere. Please don't do this to garner attention because that really isn't what this place is about. Whilst you may want some, and I accept that, it's not necessarily the right board to try that.
9 months and you should surely be aware of some sort of supposed antagonism when this board is met with large posts that carry a sort of style that has been seen far too many times. Very picky it's true, but it's kind of what you get when you must realise what you do when you post here is trying to entertain, and sometimes novelty is key.

..point taken.
It's a sunday, lighten up. I thought we were all friends here? I'm not trying to piss anyone off.
And i'll try to be more inventive in future.
I was just playing about, no need for all this disharmony..

You get what you join up for. I'm only trying to deliver to you what generally is the reason for all the negativity.
Nevermind sweetheart though, just pick yourself up and try again.

Like a rubberball i'll bounce back.
Wasn't telling you to lighten up, just got a bit weirded out by the attacks. i don't do personal insults.
Unlike the Pappa Nazi.. lol! (dude, that is a joke, i'm sure you're a lovely person. With kittens. And a rosebush.)

I am actually, a very lovely person. I used to have a kitten but she died a long time ago. Now I have a NaziGerman Shepherd. I do have a rosebush but it's not looking too healthy. Conversely, the rosebushes at my last house went really well. I don't think little pots are any good for roses :(

..i'm botanically challenged. A cactus and a couple of spider plants are about all i can keep alive...
I give other plants to ma Meré, she's got not much else to do... apart from golf, bridge, walking, holidays... Damn she's busy!

Some friends of mine gave me a cactus as a housewarming present many years ago. Cute little thing in a pot about 4" cube. No one had ever told me about how to grow cactii so I figured hey, they grow in the desert so don't need water, right? So I never watered it. It got to about a foot high then sort of tapered off; about 1" diameter at the main part and a tapering tip like a condom.
A couple of years later I move back in with the folks (as you do when your visa card spirals out of control) and mum takes a look at this cactus of mine and asks "haven't you been watering that?" "No, I says. it's a cactus!" "uh... " she groaned and took it off me. She then repotted it in a large pot and gave it a little water every now and then. Now the damn thing is 3 feet tall, is about 1" diameter for a foot, then tapers to 1/2" for about 1" height then blows out to about 2" diameter and has grown another 2 feet! Strangest looking cactus you've ever seen. Needs to be staked up of course since it's so top heavy :)

If the concept is "plagiarism" then I can work with that.
b3ta, if compared to music, would be like heavy on the sampling electronica. Some original stuff but lots of tidbits taken from other sources.
What the OP posted was the visual equivilant of Australian 'exclusive' television where they take an american program, shove their own intro and credits on it but don't change the 99% in the middle.

Though I suppose that is a good way of seeing it, mon frere.
Tbh the australian equivalent sounds better than an American television credits sequence anyway. Plus American editing techniques give me a neckhurt in the anal region. It's literally all flash.

was when Phantom Menace came out. There was an interview with the lead actors, done by some yank mob. I know that because I saw excerpts on other programs.
Then the local aussie TV has their "exclusive interview with the stars of star wars". It's the same footage but they've edited out the american interviewer and some aussie girl is asking the same questions.
Aieeeeee....

It's seems almost ironic as it could be the case that some British films had non speaking trailers when shown in America.

which was a self-help new age pile of claptrap that became popular and made a local woman a lot of money a year or two ago.
She took a US produced video called "The Law of Attraction" and put a snazzy front end on it that claimed (but failed to substantiate) all these people have been trying over the ages to hide this secret from the world. Once that's done, it's into the US production with all american presenters. Every now and then they splice in an Aussie guy giving his "real life" experiences. Local content? The 15 min of WANK intro plus a total of 6 mins chopped through it. (sigh)
An amusing digression, I googled the names of the presenters... without fail, every one of them is a wealthy person who made their money not in some honest profession but on the wealth creation speaking circuit :)
