Am I the only one to find this a bit sussed?
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8225621.stm

The stepfather saw her being taken? Something just doesn't ring true to me.

I expect I'm alone on this and bow down for the flaming that is sure to take place.

This is the blurb of the book I'm currently reading:
"Even the dead have to work for a living. In the wake of my ressurection as a member of the bloodsucking undead, I chose to put my investigative talents to good use as a P.I."

I was really hoping this was a book about Kaol, but the lack of zoology and the hotel trade suggest otherwise. The main character isn't even Russian.

No question. This is just a statement.

Employment Advice :(:(
Hey B3tans, I need some help:

The situation is basically, I came to the UK - accepted an offer from Company A and was told to start the following week and the contract would be in the post.
Now, one day before my start date I had another interview with Company B and was offered the job (Higher salary too!).

I started work for Company A 2 days ago and I *loathe* it. I handed in my notice today to HR. (My contract - which I have not signed yet - states one week). The HR woman told me she couldn't authorize me to skip my notice.
Company B, meanwhile want me to start on Tuesday (within the notice period for Company A). I would love to start for them on Tuesday but it's within my notice period still. I don't want to go into work tomorrow because its pointless and expensive.

What would happen if I emailed HR telling them I Am not coming in and sent their unsigned contract back to them by post?

Thanks!

P.s I know this sounds cuntish, but hey... they'd do the same to me if they could

Home Sweet Home
Today's question: Tell us about the things you just don't get. I still wonder why some people are so obsessed with vampires.

Favorite musical instrument?
Seeing as I'm a country girl, mine is the steel guitar.
Tell me what your favorite is.
Or tell me why you're such a fucking cunt.

Can someone who speaks French well tell me how to pronounce this name
put it phonetically for me please

Huyghe

Ta.

Otherwise I'll just refer to it as Hi-gay which I think is wrong.

I think
and therefore am probably right, that I should win B3tan of the day. I have been consistently interesting, and sparked some lively conversation and debate. I also won QOTW, albeit with my second best story of the week, and have been generally hilarious. Please send my medal now.

Anyone think
after reading this

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8224062.stm

that it might be nice to end sunday trading? Why not go back to the olden days when it was better.

The law was actually to allow small shops to open all day, and limit the opening of the large shops. The reality is the opposite happened and mainly the big shops open. Big shops of course, are evil and should be stopped.

I think things should be nicer.

Who was it who pointed out the filthy pictures on Maoam sweets?
I ask because the Torygraph must read OT and have done a story about it.

It was someone here wasn't it?

My wife is a pervert. She gets turned on by films that show forced sex.
Though she doesn't like to be forced herself.

I want to get laid tonight. Can anyone recommend a film with nudity and sex with some forced aspects that's not too nasty so can get my end away.

Why oh why am I so comfortable telling fellow b3tans this shit!

Stocky in figure, he had a tall and forceful head and a neat beard

what does it say about your namesake?

Come on internet
Tell me the Becky -v- Bert story.
I want your outraged opinions too.
Quickly now, I haven't all day.

Bert Monkeysex's second attempt at an olive branch
Hi there Mrs Becky, I know you're a bit of a grump sometimes and what-not, but I think we should call an end to this silly feud. Sure, we'll never like or respect each other again, that's absolutely fine, but there really isn't any need for nastiness.

So everybody, this is the 'Cheer up, Becky' thread, post nice things like stories about and pictures of animals, she'll like that. Show her some appreciation for keeping things going here when she was unemployed.

I've just been reminded by a friend...
On the way home from the pub last night the radio was on in the car. Somebody tuned to BBC Radio 3 there was roughly 5 minutes of queef-like animal noises. Mostly cow and pig-like i seem to remember.
I can't find anything about it on their website.

This had nothing to do with the 4 or 5 pints of Ayingerbrau I had consumed.

Has anybody else experinced this phenomenon?

Anyone know how much an engineer's report might cost?
Our PC monitor is borked (it won't switch on) and I've complained to PC world about it as it's less than two years old and should therefore be considered as still in guarantee. I've just had a reply back from them asking for 'an independent engineer’s report, to assist our investigations. This report must state the nature of the fault, its probable cause, diagnostic procedures used and the total cost of the repair showing a breakdown of labour charges. If the monitor cannot be repaired, this must be stated'.

I'm going to quote directive 1999/44/EC at them as I think they're taking the piss slightly, but just in case, has anyone had to have an engineer's report done, what did it cost and how long did it take? And also, do PC World have the right to ask for this or should they just replace the fucking thing?

And if nobody has a bloody clue about this, what is your favourite place in the world?

my drummer is talking about setting up a twitter thing for our band
how can I get across to him that twitter is a massive pile of shit, and is completely pointless?

Bloody hell
We just had a work presentation on the new system.

1. Stick USB token into computer and enter username and password for disk encryption.
2. Enter username and password to log in to windows.
3. Bring up login page in web browser and enter username and password.
4. Click on application portal in virtual desktop that opens.
5. Enter username and password for application portal.
6. Click on virtual desktop in new window that opens.
7. Start application in virtual desktop and - you've guessed it - enter username and password.

Extra credit: They're going to *try* to ensure all the usernames are the same. We are allowed to use the same password for each but we'll have to keep them in sync manually and there's no guarantee that some might have different security requirements and expiry periods.

So inevitably passwords are going to be written down and all that security ends up leaving us less secure.

What foot-shootings have you seen recently?

Travel
If you were in a position where you had no responsibilities, a job that is likely to become redundant and, following a house sale, you had a few quid in the bank and really fancy a chance of scenery, where would you go?

Dubai was (previously) a consideration, but the experiences recorded here don’t really enthuse me. I have been tentatively offered a job over there, I’m not sure if it will make for the best experience, or put it another way, for a borderline alcoholic with an uncanny ability to fuck everything up monumentally on a regular basis, I could do with somewhere a bit more liberal.

I’ve never travelled (bar the odd two weeks in some European holiday resort) so everything is a consideration at the moment.

What are you experiences of life overseas? Where would you avoid and where would you go?

I keep getting accidently drunk in the evenings.
The scary thing is that I seem to do more work the next day than when I'm not hung over.

What do you keep doing accidently?.........besides my mum obviously.

I spent most of yesterday evening
crafting a set of body armour based on the Mobile Infantry from the film Starship Troopers. It is mostly made of neoprene and webbing at the moment, but looks quite good.

I'm not mad, it is for a fancy dress thing at a festival. What have you dressed up as? Points for commitment to the outfit.

That's me posting below as Captain V, that is.
I know it may look like him, but I'm about 6 foot taller and have a bigger cock. And he's somewhere on the M4 right now.

Ah, 5.47am, best of all the insomniac minutes
I'm one of those godless heathen atheists who doesn't go in for any of that New Age spiritual wank but the closest I get to contemplative meditation is listening to the Shipping Forecast. If anyone knows of any podcasts or mp3s of the Shipping Forecast (preferably read by Brian Perkins, without ambient music over the top, and not the Les Barker parody as I have that already) then do please point me in the right direction so that I can zone the fuck out.

Alternatively, Catface and I are thinking of having a wee holiday, maybe at Christmas. I'm considering Morocco. Or Bruges (but only if there's other midgets so he won't feel left out). What/where was your best holiday?

What one person do you most regret sleeping with and why?
Mine would be Bert. The reason? He hasn't shut the fuck up about it since. There's a fine line between being pleased with the fact that you pulled someone and harping on about it for months and months ad infinitum.
