As he withdrew his hand, he inadvertently dropped the brick onto the center of the assembly. Since the assembly was nearly in the critical state, the accidental addition of that brick caused the reaction to go immediately into the prompt critical region of neutronic behavior.

Demon Core accident #2
At 3:20 p.m., the screwdriver slipped and the upper beryllium hemisphere fell, causing a "prompt critical" reaction and a burst of hard radiation.[8] At the time, the scientists in the room observed the blue glow of air ionization and felt a heat wave.

This is a normal post it's just a funny news story, not a movement, and it has a link to a video of the doctor directly making the claim
I'm not sure what the fuck you're on about. It's like the elements are all there for a Trumpista rant: fake news, the guardian, and the NYT for some reason even though it was guardian written article. But you think just mentioning them all together is enough to make some stew of conspiracy inference. It's pretty thin gruel

This is a normal post Not wishing to agree with the conspiratorially minded lunatic, but...
"“Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said ‘I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not,’” said Dr Jane Appleby, the chief medical officer at Methodist hospital in San Antonio."

Just before he died? Really? Did he wake up from his induced coma and unplug himself from the ventilator to say that? Or was the illness so strong that one moment he was sat up talking to his nurse and the very next moment he dropped dead?

Of course the main takeaway is that Covid parties are for suicidal idiots, but Grauniad journalists suck, and/or that quoted doctor misspoke.
(, Mon 13 Jul 2020, 13:55, , Reply)
This is a normal post so you have a practising doctor going on record, but you think it's a media conspiracy based on what, your pissant opinion of covid?
you make a quite misinformed assumption that all those who die from covid die on mechanical ventilation?
I put together training for doctors and nurses on all the different ways people are dying of covid, and there's a lot of people dying in many different ways.
sepsis is a major killer of covid patients, to name one. basically after covid is done ravaging your body and immune system, starving oxygen from vital organs and damaging them, you become a big risk of sepsis death, which can happen days or weeks after you're taken off ventilation if you were on it in the first place, which not all patients are. intubation is quite a serious step and not without it's risks or difficulties. A scenario where a covid patient is still able to communicate and then dies in less than an hour from untreatable sepsis is not particularly far fetched or uncommon. Some are told they're likely to die, as health professionals have an obligation not to give inaccurate information to patients. This includes this treating doctor who would lose her job if it turns out she's been inventing patient histories, though there's not a skerrick of evidence to support your wild aspersions.
It's not the guardian who sucks, they're reporting a story from a verified on-record source, it's your massively uninformed opinions talking about shit you don't know just because it makes some dicks feel better to believe everything is fake news.

I don't doubt the veracity of anything in the article. But, well, let's just say I think we can agree it's just a funny news story rather than a movement (nb. I think America is insane, coronavirus is real, Trump is a dictator).

Interestingly, this type of article is exactly the type of thing the Russians ran on facebook in order to help get Trump elected: they put Black Lives Matter posts in the newsfeeds of white nationalists, and put NRA adverts in the groups of liberals who hate guns.

I wonder why. A sword is far more dangerous surely.
(, Mon 13 Jul 2020, 8:37, , Reply)
This is a normal post It was to do with 'repeatability' as I recall
The idea was that the BBFC censored anything that kids could easily repeat and cause significant harm.

So swords are ok because kids will just use sticks for swords, and getting clobbered with a stick is pretty minor stuff, unless your mate uses a really, really big stick.

But nunchucks are a different kettle of hyenas. Two short bits of wood and some string and suddenly you can knock some poor sod out without too much trouble.

It was the same deal with punching and headbutting. Punching is ok, people will get bruised, but you're unlikely to knock someone out unless you get lucky. BBFC used to cut headbutts from sub-15 rated stuff because headbutting requires very little skill, and can do serious damage to butt-er and butt-ee alike.

I'm not sure I 100% agreed with it, but it makes a kind of sense.

This is a normal post There are sticks and then there are sticks.
Stick fighting with garden canes can get quite bloody, as I recall. Once they start to split open they pinch your skin and start ripping bits off. And wooden swords are fairly deadly, they can surely break bones. All sticks and whatnot can put someone's eye out.

I think nunchucks were just something new and alien to these censor pricks.

This is a normal post Cheers - that was awesome
I've seen a lot of TT footage but not that one - I can't get over how close to the limit they're going on just about every corner. I didn't realise until recently that when they feel the front tyre start to let go, the remedy is to apply more power to take load off the front - any letting off is going to make things worse. On a track you might have space to go wide, but that's not an option in road racing. I hope I never find myself in that situation - I'd certainly die!

This is a normal post And there are hours more where that came from.
So much attention to detail. I love how the O-Rangers fans chant "O", I love how it's obviously edited together to make for the most exciting reveal of the scores. Most of all I love how it exposes 'real' sport.

I can totally see why John Oliver bought into this stuff.

This is a normal post Do you really want to know? (Not that I know in this instance)
But a lot of magic tricks have really, really mundane answers.
One magician for which I was able to tell a friend exactly how a particular show was done (and I did warn them it would be a major spoiler) was Derren Brown, and my friend’s response was “oh, that’s it? Kinda wish you hadn’t told me”
Much, much better to work it out for yourself.

This is a normal post Sometimes it's actual legitimate magic, though.
David Blaine is a good example.

This is a normal post There’s a difference between, say
Having a complicated hidden mechanism, and just having a stooge or relying on camera angles, though.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2020, 11:36, , Reply)
This is a normal post Must be a stooge in this case.
Otherwise the fourth ace would need to be present in both halves.

This is a normal post Nah, it's a pretty standard technique when getting someone to chose between two things in a trick.
He didn't say in advance what he was going to do with the chosen half, so could either say that the half selected contains the ace or that it contains the card indicating the ace's position in the other half.

This is a normal post That's astounding
It's so simple it's hard to see any room for shenanigans - so many tricks are complex enough that you're left thinking there are ways it could have been done, but that left me with nothing but an open mouth!

(, Sun 12 Jul 2020, 16:30, , Reply)
This is a normal post if I was guessing Id say it was a combination of tricks, but mainly palming in or floating (where you retain the top cards) all or partial ace decks
you see his hands disappearing below the table several times.
Also you only need slight difference in rigged cards to feel for in cutting. tiny size differences that aren't that apparent (or he shows a uniform deck and switches in a rigged one) or they can be treated with an extra tacky edge coating. human fingertips are very sensitive, you can feel things too small for your eye to see, and can be trained
(, Mon 13 Jul 2020, 4:19, , Reply)
This is a normal post I used to do close up magic
And though I didn't do many card tricks I did one very intricate one at a dinner party that started with somebody selecting a card straight out of a sealed pack from a riffle. The trick was in doctoring the card to make it slightly shorter, then meticulously resealing the pack. I then tore the corner off the card, put the remainder in an envelope and burned it. About an hour later somebody peeled an orange and found the 'same' card compete with the matching torn corner in the middle of an orange. I thought they would be impressed but the party just descended into a huge argument, so a lot of effort for nothing and I didn't do that one again.
