“empathising with the frustrated drivers”
What a fucking inane thing to say. Of course he performs the pantomime of qualified sympathy, but his aim is precisely and exactly to frustrate drivers. It gets him the attention he craves, and he can argue it’s reasonable as car use is part of the problem. But don’t give me the complete and utter bullshit that he empathises with the victims of his disruptive melodrama, he could not give a single, solitary shit, he needs their victimhood to gain any kind of media attention. If he really had any empathy whatsoever he wouldn’t disrupt the lives of the powerless. Fuck’s sake.

Isn't there a moral obligation to destroy the fossil fuel industry?
They're not going to destroy themselves willingly. They evidently have too much political and legal power to effect meaningful change in a short enough time frame. They evidently have publicists to make (sorry but) idiots like the OP hate activists rather than the people systematically destroying the ecosystem. What better alternative is there to bombing coal and gas power plants?

I don't hate *all* activists. I just hate the Extinction Rebellion wankers because their arguments and methods are so ill conceived that they end up tarring everyone who cares about the planet with the same shit-smeared brush.
It's the same reason I hate Militant Vegans and Third Wave Feminazis. They might have the right idea at heart, but they're damaging their cause more than they're supporting it.
There's nothing noble about majority white middle class retirees and their crusty offspring going to jail for a few weeks on behalf of the plebs that can't afford insulation or a conviction, because these are the same people for which being landed with a criminal record or a couple of weeks jail time in a minimum security prison will have next to zero negative effect on their future prospects, and (as demonstrated by the cunt in the video) only serves to embolden them further.
Sufficiently retrofitting all of Britain's older homes with the appropriate insulation to bring them in line with modern standards should happen. But gluing yourselves to the M25 is a fucking moronic way of getting your point across - not at least because the sheer amount of extra CO2 you're releasing into the atmosphere by causing all of these tailbacks will be vastly offsetting any good you hope to achieve.
Instead, these thick cunts who can clearly afford to take a few weeks off work to act out their fantasy of being political prisoners should be investing in setting an example and making sure their own homes are up to the fucking standard they expect from the government before demanding that action is taken on behalf of the folk on minimum wage that can't afford to do it themselves.
I think though, in the long run, I just can't fucking stand these human-centric activist groups. The planet isn't in danger. We're in danger. We're a massively fragile species, made only more fragile over the past few years by our complete over-reliance on comfortable living and the abundance and overprovision of fossil fuels. At the heart of it, XR don't give a fuck about saving the planet, they only give a fuck about saving the people living on it. It just so happens that in order to do that, we need to keep the planet in a habitable state.
Should the fact that our number is likely well and truly up mean that the next few generations should suffer? Not at all. By all means make sure that pensioners aren't freezing to death because because they don't have double glazing or money to feed the mete. But you only have to realise that every. Single. Thing. you own has required fossil fuels in at least one (and likely many) points in its lifetime to get to where it is now to understsnd that when we really do start to see the black stuff start to disappear, we're going to be royally fucked.
Why are we demonising the fossil fuel industry? Do you blame the tobacco giants for giving you lung cancer? The drinks giants for your alcoholism?
If you really want to 'destroy the fossil fuel industry' then stop using fossil fuels. All of them. I dare you. We're long past the point of no return as a species in that regard. I'd wager that even if you got every single environmental activist on the planet to completely abstain from direct and indirect consumption of fossil fuels for the rest of their natural lives, the impact on the industry wouldn't even register.
The only hope for our planet is our inevitable demise as a species. Because no matter the outcome, there's no fucking way we're making it another 200 years with our current population. Even if we managed to construct self-contained biosphere capable of supporting life long after the natural environment have become hostile, how many people can we reasonable expect these habitats to support? 0.1% of the population? What do we do with the rest?
I'm all for people campaigning for reduction in waste, animal rights, basically anything that helps the planet to recover quicker once we all finally and inevitably fuck off. But any kind of campaign based solely around extending the amount of time we can spend exploiting our environment and the other species' that inhabit it with us can get fucked as far as I'm concerned. And in that regard, XR and all their fuckwit splinter groups (like Insulate Britain) can fuck right off.
The thought of a handful of us hanging on in glass bubbles as we watch the planet literally die around us is a nightmare scenario for me. I'd much sooner see us wiped out before the climate potentially reaches a point of no return. But hey, I guess that makes me sound like the Ecoterrorist.
I know from many, many months of getting into verbal (and occasionally, physical) disputes with self absorbed cunts that are too soft/selfish/cool to wear a mask for five minutes of their day that aggression isn't going to change their minds. Very, very few of these twats are going to think "Hey, that guy thinks I'm a cunt for refusing to put a mask on, I better wear one in the future". But fuck me, the confrontation is cathartic. Maybe that's the whole reason they do it, but even so, they need to find a better fucking outlet than the one they've decided upon, because it doesn't work.

You're never, ever, ever going to persuade the majority to stop breeding.
Too many of us are convinced that offspring will somehow save our dying relationships/enrich our boring lives. People get irrationally upset when you even hint at the suggestion that having children is a terrible idea.
I sometimes think that it would be nice if one of these Covid mutations resulted in mass infertility. Although I suspect that the Children of Men/Handmaid's Tale outcome is becoming increasingly likely in that scenario. I don't particularly like us on a species level, but I don't particularly want to see Gilead become a reality, either.
It doesn't really matter now, anyway. As you quite aptly summarised, we've already fucked the dog. Unless we can shift as a global community to true net zero, we're going to continue to slowly/quickly erode the environment until we end up at the same mass extinction outcome, regardless. The only people doing that are the few genuine off-gridders (who most of us regard as weird/mentally ill) and the few remaining indigenous tribes in the Amazon/India. But I'm sure they'll either be eradicated or assimilated soon enough. We're a far fucking cry from the National Geographics from 40 years ago.
I'm not prepared to live a truly carbon neutral lifestyle. Neither is birb. And neither are these XR fuckwits. We're simply delaying the inevitable. No amount of insulation will change that.

I mean, if the idea is to reduce pollution, take out the biggest polluters, and that is rich people.

What a load of bollocks.
The reason you hate Third Wave Feminazis and Militant Vegans is actually because you've been radicalised.
You've been had. Hoodwinked. Hornswaggled.
You simply cannot have watched the video you shared to be making so many stupidly wrong comments.
You challenge me to live a perfect life but I live in imperfect circumstances. You also seem to think personal choice is more important than instituting laws and enforcing them. That's because you've been brainwashed.
Your conclusion is total bollocks. As the nice man in the video points out, this exact kind of civil disobedience won women the vote.
We need more people like the hero in your video. People who value human life.

This is another example of a comment you could only make if you had not watched the video you linked.
Roger Hallam seems sensible and reasonable, based on the comments quoted in your link. Have you read it? What is it about him that you think is insane?
You seem to be suffering from an extreme case of cognitive dissonance. This, I believe, is because you have been radicalised.
Take a walk, keep going until the storm in your mind has settled a bit, then unsubscribe from whatever youtube/bitchute channel it is that's filling your pretty little head full of nonsense.

Amen
Hear, hear.
Two things though.
You say "Sufficiently retrofitting all of Britain's older homes with the appropriate insulation to bring them in line with modern standards should happen". It won't though, because we live in reality and HM Gov couldn't organise a piss-up in a brothel.
Secondly, as someone once said, "the stone age didn't end because we ran out of stones". Science will get us out of this mess, not, as you correctly said, middle-class retired twats and Anglican clergymen.

i know you don't think so
but he's no more empowered than any of the 'powerless' drivers whose lives he briefly disrupted and whose powerless inclination to react violently he aroused.
he just chose to make some noise - a pretty unpleasant noise, to be sure - because making unpleasant noise is probably the only way to be heard.
what should they have done, swaggy? perhaps a strongly worded letter to their democratically elected mp? an open letter in a newspaper willing to associate with their group? certainly easier on our sensitive ears - on the offchance we can make them out in the shrill roar of everyday media, of course.
i like the guy, but i do tend to agree with you that the cause doesn't, in this case, justify the means.

Their acquittal appears to have hinged
upon the idea that they had a lawful excuse, namely that the statue's existence was an act of public indecency so by tearing it down they prevented a more serious crime.
Seems like a bit of a stretch... I mean, yeah maybe one might regard it as publicly indecent, but then that means one made the conscious decision to be the victim of a serious criminal offence committed by an inanimate object;
I suggest people stop letting themselves get trolled by chunks of tarnished bronze, and while tossing them in the Severn is one way to achieve that, getting a fucking grip seems like less hassle.
To be honest, I think they probably should have been convicted, and then given the shortest possible sentence, suspended.
It would serve no purpose to imprison them, given that no major harm has been done, but we can't have people knocking down monuments they arbitrarily decide are indecent.

Why does it seem like a stretch?
How can it be decent to erect and maintain statues of the very worst kind of racists? Especially considering the years of campaigning to remove the monument rejected by the relevant local authorities.
The public order act of 1986 states:
A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or
(b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby.
(My emphasis added.)
Please explain how erecting and maintaining a monument celebrating the life of Edward fucking Colston is compatible with that law.
Please also explain why you are upset at people who defiled a monument to a fucking slave trader.

Well if you do insist on getting all technical,
erecting and maintaining a statue does not meet the definition of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, nor is it a display of written material.
But even if it did, it's been sitting there quietly ignored by passers by, for longer than the collective ages of the people who toppled it,
thoroughly failing to stir up the fires of racial hatred. I argue that racial hatred got stirred up first, and then was targeted at the statue.
Incidentally I'm not upset, and I bear these guys no ill will; Beni literally requested for a contrary opinion so he got one.
I don't think the acquittal particularly makes sense, but it's not like this is a big deal. At worst the damage was a bunch of noisy hassle.
Yeah, the statue is shit, of a guy who was shitter, and it's for the best that it has gone.
I agree with the outcome, I'm just not down with mobs knocking down monuments.

I've heard testimony
from black Bristolians who describe the gutting feeling of walking past that statue to and from work. They didn't make a conscious decision to be a victim.
Legal precedent is on my side wrt the public order act, I believe.

You may well be right. IAMAL.
But if that is the case I expect some extremely circuitous chicanery of words must have been employed to get that legislation to fit.
My blind guess is it would all hinge on the word insulting, which is a deeply flawed word that is impossible to objectively define.

It's pretty simple.

I have no problem understanding the jury's decision.
They probably liked defendants, and agreed with the outcome of the incident, so they let em off. It's an easy concept to understand.
I might have liked them too and let them off too. I don't agree with what they did, and I do think it's pretty clearly against the law,
but it is only an ugly chunk of bronze. If people hate it that much, and getting rid of it will make them pipe down, it's good that it's gone.
Put up a nice horse, or a bear or a dragon or something.

The Mummy (arguably)
The Fly
The Thing
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
True Grit
Casino Royale (Not strictly a remake, but fuck it)
Scarface
The Departed (Not better, but just as good)
I'm being facetious, there are clearly far more bad examples of remakes than good ones, but they do exist!

So I wouldn't expect everyone to to agree with me.
I wouldn't call the BDP Scarface overrated as such, it's just one of those films that gets absolutely idolised by Council Estate wankers and Fuentes wannabes.
My biggest gripe with it was the casting of Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, but that's a personal thing based upon the fact that she looks a bit like an alien wearing an overly tight human suit, and it gives me the heebies. Cracking soundtrack, though.

The problem with madladism such as this in the Social Media era
is that there are a large enough number of fuckwits in the wild ready to take this seriously and turn it into a very real, potentially problematic issue. Qanon, Flat Earth and the various Tik-Tok 'Challenges' are more than enough evidence to support that.
