Which has to be complete fucking bollocks, because even of the only place the poll was submitted was r/tombraider, I'd find the result fucking dubious. Never mind the fact that a sample size of 4,000 is ridiculously small.
The BAFTA article absolutely reeks of AI-generated text - it wouldn't surprise me if the results of the poll were AI generated too, although fuck knows what criteria/parameters they used to get that result.

iconic is an arbitrary poorly defined metric
if you were to interpret it narrowly, as in "most used as an icon or cultural reference in other contexts" there's a lot more mario stuff being sold, worn, and emblazoning kid's lunchbox than lara croft. they did a couple of movies, but everthing gets that these days. The witcher got two whole seasosns, not just a movie, fallout is getting one.
