This is a link post CGI used way more than most people think
2 year old GC before anyone calls it
Most of these seem WAY over the top.

This is a normal post yeah
I remember watching this for the first time and thinking "very impressive, but why??" I mean, I understand that permits/logisitics etc, for some shots would be difficult, but really? this sort of cg is *expensive*... although I guess less expensive than the alternative

This is a normal post I think CGI works best when you don't notice it as CGI
I was amazed at the amount of manipulation that went into the film Zodiac. Some of it so subtle but that's when it works best I think.

This is a normal post I guess essentially as as a period film, they wanted San Francisco to be as it was in the 70s.
It's probably changed massively since.

But I was most impressed with the fact that most of the time I had absolutely no idea I was watching any kind of CGI. Especially the alterations to the buildings. So subtle and effective.

This is a normal post Ahh, I guess you're right.
At no point did I spot a single CGI shot in the whole film.

I'm still blown over by Davy Jones from POTC though. Organic creatures seem to be the most difficult to do convincingly, and my ILM got that near perfect. images.usatoday.com/life/_photos/2006/07/17/pirates-topper.jpg

This is a normal post a lot of this isn't CGI
most of this is just comping... using real photographic elements comped together.

CGI is normal used to describe an added element that is entirely computer generated...

there for comping a video of someones arm onto their body, is very different from generating A CGI arm...

semantics... and I'm normally anti-semantics.

but shirley you're comping computer generated scenes? e.g. the live action scene and (potentially) a completely computer generated scene?
(, Wed 15 Aug 2012, 18:31, Reply)
This is a normal post its not often you would create an entirely CGI environment...
most of these are video element comps... theres some cgi, and even some still images, but most of it is still film comping

I'm certainly veering towards the "that's very sick, and thus funny" even though I know it's not the 'right' answer. But I'm comfortable enough to laugh at just about anything. That cartoon, Electric Retard was a case in point (not sure it exists any more cos no-one would host it).
My girlfriend's younger cousin posted about this site yesterday on her FB feed and was quite upset (her mum's got leukemia). So, whilst I see, appreciate and enjoy witnessing how far people are willing to push a 'joke' I can see that other people aren't willing to cross those boundaries.

This is a link post The awkward feeling you get when going back to your home town for a drink with your old mates... I made this!
WARNING: INCLUDES POETRY.

I went and made a film with the poet Polarbear.

as I'm not all that in to poetry - but that was rather good.

This is a normal post That was really good.
Just long enough to keep my attention and give a good narrative. A fine balance indeed. Good luck with future stuff and props to the poet.

I hope they turn the Stainless Steel Rat into a movie. Ok, I know it may
be a case of "too little too late", but I'd just like to see his work
on the big screen in honour of him.

Edit:- Hmmm, image challenge suggestion??

This is a link post Abandoned Olympic buildings
We all suspect that this is how things end up after the Olympics have left town. Would be nice if there were a similar project showing which facilities are still in use...

This is a normal post I know that the Winter Olympic village from Lillehammer in Norway...
...was dismantled and shipped up to Spitsbergen (Svalbard) where it's now used to house the students/scientists at the university up there.

The buildings are like relics of a great time when the city wasn't so shit. But now the good times have gone and the buildings have gone to shit but yet you're still reminded of the good times even though everything's shit. Know what I mean

really? why are Progressive Insurance soulless cunts?

This is a normal post You know, it would be a shame if "#soulless cunts"
started trending on Twatter with lots of links pointing to a "let me google that for you" search for "soulless cunts".

Of course, I would want to distance myself from such behaviour, in case any soulless cunts took offence.

This is a link post Golden Postbox Locator I made this!
Sooooo as you all know, each hometown of every Olympic gold medalist has got a postbox that's been painted gold. But where is your nearest golden postbox I hear you ask? Well, wonder no more as I have developed a page that will tell you!

Excuse the Straight-Outta-1998 design. And it only works over wi-fi.

(, Wed 15 Aug 2012, 10:39, Reply)
This is a normal post The hardcore way.
I had to go to the Royal Mail's gold postbox site - www.goldpostboxes.com - and then had to type the street names into Google Maps one by one to get the coordinates for each one to enter into a database!
