Evening all
So what are folks up to tonight?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:06, 258 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Evening
Naff all on tonight, going to see either Toy Story 3 or Inception tomorrow with a friend (in the -zone sense of the word).
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:25, Reply)
Not heard
Anything about Toy Story 3, but a lot of people are saying Inception's really good. So is this friend somebody you'd like to be more than friends with?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:29, Reply)
Aye
but she "doesn't want a boyfriend at uni" and I'm not sure if I'm ballsy enough to point out that now its the summer we're not at uni for 2 months (plus I didn't get to see her at the beginning of the hols when that line would have worked a lot better)
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:44, Reply)
Well
I know how you feel, I was in almost the same situation a few years back.

I really do feel for you man.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:52, Reply)
Inception is ace
plus you have the added chance of her being so confused you could trick her into bed and tell her it was a dream
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:16, Reply)
Heard good things about it
Also heard that you need to see it twice to make sense of it, and seeing it in 3d on saturday anyway, so might take the chance to be smug at my sister (who is a film geek) by understanding more of it.

Also if things do go well, it wont matter if I'm "distracted" the first time I go and see it.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:20, Reply)
Being on b3ta
For the first time in about 6 months.

Have I missed anything? Where is Edmund? Have The Stig and Rubberduck stopped arguing yet? What is Vampyrecat's latest teenage lesbian fantasy?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:43, Reply)
I'm back after about a month
And was on for about a month before that (as part of my revision avoidance program), and only recognise one of those names, and that's from a previous delurk, so don't think much has been happening recently on /ot at least.
But then I dont pay attention, so don't take my word for it.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:46, Reply)
So I've not missed much, eh?
I was being a tad sarcastic. I was around when Edmund got sent down for being a hopeless and rather perverse fantastist.

The Stig is long gone and I think Vampyrecat changed her name.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:56, Reply)
I sure have changed my name.

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:44, Reply)
Sh-eeet
You're still alive! Well done!

I'm remembering Sunday mornings (in the UK) when I started work at 05.00 and you were the only person online.

How the hell are you?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:54, Reply)
haha yeah, I'm still around on sundays it's just nobody usually posts to say they're alive.
I'm fine ta. My trip to the UK/europe is still on, and my cat, the little bugger, has just caught and killed a sparrow while wearing FOUR friggen bells on his collar. And then dropped it at my feet.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:04, Reply)
Take the bells off
They'll fuck the cat's head up.

Cats are hardwired to prowl quietly and sticking bells on him will affect his reflexes and his responses towards you.

Cats are also hardwired to attack. Don't get cross or upset that he kills the occasional tweetypie. It means he's mentally and physically in good order.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:18, Reply)
Welcome back
I've not been on for about 9 months, so I can't say about anything. Isn't Ed in jail, and I thought that Stig had ran like the wind.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:56, Reply)
See above
I think last time I spoke to you you'd just lost your job, and you live in the wastelands between Croydon and Bromley.

Am I right?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:59, Reply)
Wow
What a memory you have, except that I live in the wasteland that is Croydon.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:03, Reply)
I remember that
Because I lived in Penge for a bit. And we discussed which is better.

This illustrates that:-

1 - My life has rather improved since I was a frequent habituee of this site.

2 - I have a phenomenal capacity for remembering irrelevant shite.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:20, Reply)
Ed is
or was, in the pokey. Stig seems to have vanished, RD likewise. Think VC is still here somewhere under a new name, but can't be sure
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:56, Reply)
Edmund's just got out of a 16 week stretch in chokey. And was on prime time BBC1 the other night.
The Stig was banned for being a twat, Rubberduck is elusive and Vampyrecat is now Poppet and about to invade the UK.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:56, Reply)
Damn you
Also, when was Stig banned? I don't remember this.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:57, Reply)
I think he was banned.
Memory's a bit vague. Think he maybe had a pop at someone. Apparently he really was a twat in real life.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 21:58, Reply)
Damn cocks, coming here and being cocks
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

I noes, right?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:00, Reply)
Damn right
I was looking back at page 1 of OT earlier and getting all nostalgic about all the folk that we've lost in the last 2 years. Bad times.

How's abroad?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:09, Reply)
very hot
generally 34 by ten o'clock. And they charged me ten euros to see the one thing I was bothered about seeing in Malta.

How're you doing?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:16, Reply)
I'm not bad
Other than being slightly ill, and the bride for the wedding on Saturday saying I need to do more things which weren't previously on my to-do list. And it's far too warm here, I want some rain.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:20, Reply)
hope you feel better
before the Saturday. What do you have to do apart from get the groom drunk and write a speech?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:22, Reply)
Oh, a ridiculous amount apparently which aren't usually best man duties
Organise people for photos, direct people at the reception, be in charge if anything goes wrong at the reception. Oh, and make sure the groom manages to put his kilt on properly.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:25, Reply)
you should rope some ushers in
to give you a hand. Then proclaim yourself their king and sit there and direct them
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:28, Reply)
I did threaten with wearing a top hat with my kilt

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:31, Reply)
be a martinet
insist on a dress rehearsal where you drill people into formation in straight lines. (a) they will take the job from you or (b) you'll have no trouble on the actual day
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:37, Reply)
Put that in the speech
Take a collapsible one, and put it on as you mention it
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:38, Reply)
DG, he hasn't just got out
He was out in January gazzing people!

Did you get a cock gaz?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:21, Reply)
Nah, he invited me to the opera
and gave me some unwanted advice on my aunty's womb
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:23, Reply)
Sexy
On both counts other than the fact that opera is rarely sexy.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:26, Reply)
CARMEN!
But it wasn't Carmen :(
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:29, Reply)
Haha
Someone knows their opera.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:31, Reply)
When i say he invited me to the opera
I mean he said he wanted to go to the bash that weekend, didn't have a lady to take, and being middle class was going to the opera instead, then said to me "If you've got no plans for the weekend you could come down to London?" and I thought "Whaaaaaaaat????"
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:38, Reply)
Was it that long ago?
Fucking hell.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:37, Reply)
It's all moving too fast innit lad?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:38, Reply)
It is that, Gaz.
It is that.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:43, Reply)
Well
Ed = gone, in prison, possibly out again
Stig = gone
Rubberduck = gone
Vampyrecat = name changed

Done.

Gor Blimey!
It's a bloody miracle, eh, this stuff that these young 'uns get up to now.

You've been gazzed, chief.

To answer the original question.
Not a lot. Just has a Chinese takeaway and am slowly sipping at a glass of wine as I'm picking the missus up from a night out later.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:00, Reply)
TBH if you make one of these threads
the answer will generally be not a lot, unless you catch people on fri/sat just before they go out

BUT MY LIFE IS USUALLY SO FULL OF ACTION AND MAYHEM!
/may not be strictly true...

Hi DG
How's life, and Tourettes?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:05, Reply)
Well there y'are, eh?
DG - not sure I've posted much - if at all - since I met you and Tourettes at BGB's gaff on a very cold night.

Hope you're both chipper.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:05, Reply)
Not bad, Dok, Dis.
Facing possible redundancy but then who isn't these days? Have put in for a voluntary settlement just to see what happens.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:12, Reply)
Boooooooooo
It's not the best time for that to happen really. Glad everything else is good though.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:14, Reply)
*shrugs*
The organisation's being would up in 2012; the programme I work on still has to be delivered beyond then but after that nothing is set in stone. If I get the chance to go now, with 18 years service, I'll take it because frankly, future redundancy terms are looking likely to be drastically reduced if this government gets its way.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:19, Reply)
Take the money
Go to the dark side!

You should be able to pick up consultancy work. The stability might not be there but the whole point of Cameron's demolition of RDA's is that he can make his pals at SERCO, Crapita etc. pick up the necessary work, be a little bit more accountable but still fulfill a recognised need.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:31, Reply)
If they offer, I will.
However, the likelihood of them offering is slim given the level of money they'd have to pay me.

I'm young enough still to hopefully go out and get something else anyway, so the scare factor would give me a kick up the arse to do it.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:35, Reply)
To be dull and conformist and actually answer the question for once
I finally got round to writing/finishing/rewriting my best man's speech for a wedding on Saturday. I might even practice it tomorrow, who knows.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:09, Reply)
Any macadamias?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:12, Reply)
I'm afraid not m'dear
Would you like me to write you a speech?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:13, Reply)
Yes

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:16, Reply)
Maybe after the wedding I will do
Maybe I'll immortalise you in song, who knows.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:18, Reply)
did you include the tier line?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:17, Reply)
Was this suggested the other day?
If so, I don't remember seeing it.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:18, Reply)
it's on the popular page
something about the occasion being so moving, even the cake was in tiers. Find it difficult to write?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:20, Reply)
Aha
I didn't see that, I disappeared after folk suggest I stare at the bride breathing heavily or shit on the cake.

It was pretty easy to write; I've known him for ages, and he has many things to be made fun of.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:23, Reply)
so no shitting in the cake then :(
edit: but I'm glad it was easy to write, and I hope you suitably embarassed him
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:31, Reply)
Probably not
I'd quite like to eat it.

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:12, Reply)
Not really
Talks for uni were generally written the night before, even in final year.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:13, Reply)
Well
I can see that you're well versed in writing things last minute.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:18, Reply)
Damn straight
Although it's generally writing songs in short amounts of time, often about cake.

Feeling very lost now
Because I think the last time I looked at an evening thread it was full of Maladismal whimpering about her crap life, which is probably when I got really bored of O/T.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:14, Reply)
Right
So what did happen to her. Does anybody know?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:16, Reply)
No idea.

I miss Tulip. She was so lovely.
And Kaol's still with Mel I think.

Good Question
Wasn't she embroiled in some way with Hairpot, an equally Edmund-esque freak from days of yore?

I've a good memory for these nutters and I'm fairly sure she was.

Hairpot was the geezer who claimed to have bumped off a kiddy-fiddler and got off on a technicality.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:47, Reply)
Not quite bumped off.
But severely injured to the point where Potty ended up in t'clink for his troubles.

And also ended up in the papers for threatening to do himself in on this very site and being saved by our very own Poppet.

But yeah I think they got it together.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:54, Reply)
I missed that bit.
I seem to remember him banging on about having dual nationality and claiming diplomatic immunity if anyone ever challenged him.

Here's another lost soldier since I was last here - The Resident Loon. Has he gone too?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:03, Reply)
No, he's still about
but less frequently, bit like myself since b3ta was blocked at work.

My parents got ID'd in the states
They both have grey hair, and look their age (and hopefully dont read b3ta). When they questioned it, the shopkeeper said they weren't allowed to discriminate based on age and so had to ID everyone 0.o
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:47, Reply)
that's just idiotic.

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:50, Reply)
Christ...
I knew I was getting old when I turned 30 and they stopped IDing me whenever I went to bars in the States. Leaving my passport in the hotel when going out for a drink was an odd experience.

my dad looks young
about mid/late thirties, but certainly not young enough to be IDd. Questioned the checkout girl, and she said he was 'within the range'
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 22:50, Reply)
here it's just "if you look under 26, we will ask you for ID".
unfortunately, I have one of those faces where if I don't wear makeup, I look about 2 years younger then I actually am.

fantastic drinks
sold at Hertford college. I think they legally have to sell them in two different glasses now. Loads of different alcohol (archers, vodka, gin and something else- about eight shots worth) layered with fruit juice and topped up with juice. Tastes like fruit juice at the beginning and pure sin at the bottom, but you don't notice the transition. Most I've ever managed is two

I forgot to get carnations (non-oxford people: carnations are traditionally worn for exams, white for the first, pink for the ones in the middle, red for the last), and my general response to being asked to help with some work by my physics kid was "I don't know it either!"

In the last decade (oh god I'm old...)
I've only had a brief fling with one older man.
During that time I was married to a younger man (we'd split up by the time of the fling), had another flingette with another younger man, an 'almost' relationship with a chap ten years younger and now finally am with PJM who is younger too.

Can't be doing with older men - too much baggage.

you're going to have to give me a little more detail
unless you're talking about that argument I had with Al, Becky and that lot for picking on Poppet ages ago, but that had nothing to do with grooming or creepiness?

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:15, Reply)
well duh, obviously
I only act at being creepy, and Poppet's my mate, I wouldn't go getting all pervy on her arse
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:26, Reply)
That's right. Lab got pissed off because you were practically grooming Poppet. Don't try and act all innocent.

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:34, Reply)
I don't remember this
are you serious?

That's extremely creepy and weird, why would he do that and then come on here and bring it up again?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:54, Reply)
Yes I'm completely serious.
I have no idea, maybe he has selective memory loss. I just texted Lab to confirm that I wasn't imagining it.

Aw, man
now I'm upset because Poppet said something about someone going too far, and called it 'Bertesque', but I don't know what she was referring to
(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:15, Reply)
Sorry, I wasn't doubting what you were saying
it's just that my own memory is pretty poor. I didn't like Dok before, but now I'm positively revulsed by his presence.

...and you know that coming from me, that's pretty bad.

Ok, Bert's links say enough I think
Case closed.
(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:19, Reply)
Not to me, it isn't
I'm shocked and disgusted, I wasn't even aware that this place still existed without me

EDIT and I think Becky's referring to the second one, it definitely seemed a bit seedy to me
(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:20, Reply)
That among others. I really can't be bothered to find links for you since I remember it from first time round.

(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:30, Reply)
That's fine, nobody's asking you to
I'm just a little bit shocked, and I want somebody else to get really fucking angry with the dirty old bastard, because if I do it'll be far too hypocritical
(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:32, Reply)
UPSET AND ANGRY ONLINE
Yeah that'll really help. I'm just annoyed at Dok's implication that he's not someone who was essentially grooming a 17 year old and he's disgusted with those who were.
(, Fri 23 Jul 2010, 0:35, Reply)
it'll make me feel better
ah, just saw your edit. I was thinking that too, it was like he was blaming the creepiness on other people?

There are issues with this
The main one being unemployment and lack of money. The second being being worried that people wouldn't like me. Both major issues, I think you'll agree.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 23:19, Reply)
the lack of money
is a big one definitely. But as to the second one, I'm sure people would. Taking the risk often pays off in renewed self confidence. I'm not saying I'd have been happy, if people thought I was a cunt after they met me, but I certainly don't think that would happen to you

You better let me know if you're going to be up this way. I missed meeting the last group of b3tans up this way at the Edin-bash due to alternative plans that then turned into rather severe illness.
