I've seen the Australian version on some satelite channel (non-celebrity)
Ruined it. Turned it into a fascile reality show. They all live togeather in a house, they can vote off people if they win challanges. Totally perverts what the show is about. I think most of them are picked for their looks rather than their cooking talents.

Did the UK version air in Oz?
In the UK I think it's a ultimate cooking show. All they get here is a trophy not a book deal but the winners pretty much go on the run amazing top restaurant kitchens. The celebrity version is funny to watch as most are pretty hardcore foodies and regardless of their celebrity they're shitting themselves just being on the show.

No I don't think it did/does (certainly not primetime)

I have to ask if you're from Australia?
If so have you seen the original UK version. It's not a reality show and the challanges towards the end involve some of the biggest chefs in the world. People that have about 10-15 michelin stars each.

Yes, I preferred the OZ one, much less egotistical judges.
As light entertainment I thought it was ok and I liked the fact that the judges all cooked. By the last few shows I was actually looking forward to it and I thought there was some top cheffery all through. btw they weren't all pretty by any means

On a related note
I was living in Sydney at the time of My Restaurant Rules.
I lived 2 mins from the Sydney restaurant and walked past it the day after it got closed.
The restaurant had huge window stencils everywhere with the show's logo and big letters obviously saying, 'My Restaurant Rules.'
Somone had stick up a printed out A3 piece of paper with the words, 'Obviously not.' on it.
Additionally I remember they had to be very careful about filming for a couple of days as Nando's had an avert lorry going round and round the block with a big sign saying, 'No. Our restaurant rules.'

I really like the Australian version
Lots more tension and I found it almost gripping. The food was interesting in the episode I saw too.

yeah! did you see that australian comedian on last friday's stand up for the week?
"You know, in Britain, having an ear-ring in your right ear means you're gay."
"Really? In Australia it's when you've got your cock up another man's arse."

Yeah and was very unimpressed!
I say the same thing done by another aussie commedian (or possibly he looked very different) from an episode of 'The World Stands Up' from about 10 years ago on Paramount Comedy. So he's either a rip off merchant or using extremely old material.
