it's THE FEAR.
Why is that never enough for people?
*shakes head sadly*
Also, why must they complain that it's not scary? OF COURSE it's scary - it's THE FEAR.

on the telly. a little girl asks her littler sister if she prefers daddy or chips. she thinks about it all day
daddy? chips? daddy? chips?
they get home and she's just coming round to thinking daddy will win, when daddy nicks a chip off her plate.
"chips."
she says in a resigned tone.

first - if you have a cd-writer
start backing-up your stuff. It sounds like something is seriously unhappy, possibly hardware (do you get a DOS message saying keyboard failure?).
Have you tried a different keyboard in the machine?
The renaming crash might be unconnected, and sounds like a screwed windows registry or something (hence back-up and maybe reinstall operating system).
Get a second opinion though!

we had one this week

We told him that we'd tried a working Kb in the port and also the seemingly bust Kb in another machine and it worked. It was the port, as I had originally suggested.
