Earworm Hell.
For no reason whatsoever (other than that I saw it the other day) I have spent today with the theme tune to CBeebies’ ‘learn to draw’ programme ‘Squiglet’ relentlessly playing in my head. It’s driving me to distraction.

What’s playing on your internal jukebox today?

On a barely-related note I cannot recommend the LP ‘Growers of Mushroom’ (original copies £1500-2000) by 70s heavy-psych-rock nobodies Leaf Hound highly enough. Often so-called ‘lost classics’ are nothing of the sort – they’re frequently rare because they weren’t very good so no-one bought it upon release. That, or people who have milked the ‘big’ releases are so desperate to hear something ‘new’ that they rave over some obscurity simply because they’ve not played it to death. Captain Beyond’s much-vaunted self-titled first LP fits this latter category, I feel.

Not so this little beauty – it’s like having an extra Zeppelin/Deep Purple/Free LP that you have never heard before. If you like heavy 70s rock you’ll fucking love this, I assure you. I give it eight Tractors out of ten – praise indeed.

www.amazon.co.uk/Growers-Mushroom-Leaf-Hound/dp/B000AQBAUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292336831&sr=8-1

Of course, if you’d rather nom on down to the latest Maiden release then don’t bother yourself, nothing to see here, move along.

Alt: What the fuck is wrong with B3ta these days? Loading pages etc is like trying to look at porn on dialup sometimes.

Enough idle chit-chat.
'Definately', 'loose' (meaning 'lose'), 'centres around', 'different to/than' etc - which popular misspellings and grammatical nonsenses make your blood boil and despair for the future of humanity?

Alt Q: Which current 'buzz-words' (*belms*) or phrases (or 'indispensable technological must-haves') will still be here in five years' time? Will every cunt still be 'tweeting' or will that nonsense go the same way as that Google document sharing thing that just quietly died? Will people still be having 'staycations' (*belms HARD*), or will common sense prevail and will we once again be 'taking a holiday but not going away' like we used to?

Alt alt: Do you want a fucking smack in the fucking mouth?

Wooooo I'm home.
Yes I had a lovely time.
Yes I was very ill again.
No I don't know why either but at least I didn't throw up.
Yes Jeff is a geezer.

Got home to find that one of my cats had got locked upstairs in the attic bedroom all weekend. The stupid fucker.

Edit- can I also give a shout out for CHCB who looked lovely on her wedding day and was walking around with a grin on her face all evening and TGB who looked fucking tasty in her posh dress.

Lead up to Christmas
We have our office Christmas do on Wednesday - at which no doubt someone will disgrace themselves (again). Who has any good Christmas shame stories?

Alt Q:
What are you getting/What do you want for Christmas. I'd like to point out that my Mum is already booked, sorry boys (and girls/donkeys)

Today I am putting down the deposit for my house next September.
I have no idea what said house looks like, nor have I met four out of the five people I'm moving in with.

When was your last massive shot in the dark?

Is everyone drinking in Bristol tonight?

Not that I've got anything interesting to impart, but I thought I could bore someone else for a bit.

Fucktits
I've just got home after being at a very mixed party. Every five minutes I was alternating between having a really awesome time to wanting to stab people in the face*. Now I can't sleep. So tell me, what are you listening to at the moment?

I am making my way through what little of King Prawn's back catalogue there is on Spotify.

*mixed feelings not a result of PMT, before anyone says anything - there were two groups of people at the party, ones I like muchly and ones I hate.

Alt q: What will your Sunday consist of? Mine is a) sleep/make sure I stay awake, b) go decorate work in exchange for c) Sunday lunch with the family and some workmates, d) work, e) get drunk/fall asleep.

I completely failed to do any christmas shopping today.
Whilst I had time, I elected to go to the pub before football, rather than walking round the shops and getting tat for people who don't really need anything.

Am I supposed to feel bad about this, as I really don't care?

Have you had a good day?
(, Sat 11 Dec 2010, 20:03, 69 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Right then.
I've cut the stained glass panels. I've taken apart the table they're going into and used my table router to cut the channels that the glass will fit into. I've assembled it to make sure it all fits and taken it back apart again. All that's left to do is stain and polyurethane the wood, install the light and reassemble the beast.

Monday it's going to the gallery. For now, though, a much deserved beer is in order.

at home i photoshop on a mac
i use a pc keyboard on my mac
i use ukelele to remap my keyboard to try and better emulate a pc keyboard functionality

does anyone know a way i can get the pc keyboard attached to my mac to work in the same way as my pc keyboard attached to my work pc?
specifically the ctrl and alt modifiers

Just watched Beyond the Lighted Stage
for the second time and I am now convinced beyond any doubt that Rush are the greatest band (I spaffed my pants) to have graced this world of shaven apes.

Who is the best prog band of all time? (Monty I'm kinda taunting you with this)

Generic Friday Evening Thread
For those who aren't frequenting the b3tawedding of the year tomorrow, what are you up to tonight/this weekend?

I have been incredibly rock and roll and cracked on with (finally) painting the kitchen - to find I've not got enough of the paint to finish it and B&Q don't make it any more. I have avoided paint/kitchen related heartache by leaving a "feature" wall that shall be finished tomorrow.

HOWEVER (!), it appears I will be visiting THAT THERE LONDON with work on the 20th for the evening with my boss. Anyone care for a pint or three??
(, Fri 10 Dec 2010, 20:33, 108 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I'd like to use this section of the internet
to wish CHCB and Catface all the best for tomorrow. I hope that the lovely bride manages to stop expelling all manner of nasties from her various orifices in time for the ceremony. I also hope that the groom doesn't get mistaken for the actual cake top decoration and finds himself cemented into the top layer via the medium of particularly strong icing.

All the best, you two. Sorry we can't be there to share.

I'm sitting in my mate's kitchen looking out the window, somewhere at the far side of Wales
I can see mountains, In Ireland, 85 miles away. I think that is pretty awesome.
How far can you see at the moment? alongwards, not upwards.

Alt Q: How do I keep warm here, I'm freezing to death?

Oww
After a thread a couple of days back in which Lampito and mrs b3th were talking about bath products, I bought my sister some 'Snow Fairy.' I knocked my own mint shower gel over, and thought 'oh I'll use that, and buy her something else' and now I am itching terribly and in quite a lot of pain from it. What stupid thing did you think you could get away with?

Alt Q: What shower gel do you use ?

My hotel in Bristol just rang me to confirm my booking which has thrown me into giddy delight of getting away for the weekend.
What are you doing that will achieve the same affect this weekend?

Protocol dilemma.
I got a text at half ten last night (from two of my very best friends who're about to have their second child) asking me what I am up to on Saturday. 'Staying over and looking after my child' I say. 'Baby shower/Xmas drinks at ours 2-4pm, bring Len if you like' is the reply.

Now my natural reaction is:

a) FUCK OFF 'baby shower'. This is not fucking America and the idea of fishing for gifts is absolutely disgusting to me. If I am going to buy a present for my friend's kid it's because I want to not because I feel obliged to. I am really quite offended by the idea.
b) Inviting me has clearly been a massive afterthought if I'm getting a text so near the day. Hardly leaves me time to get a gift (even if I was going to), does it?

But these are my best friends. Do I:

a) take it on the chin, get a last-minute present and go
b) tell them I have a huge moral objection to their suggestion and am rather upset by it - not to say disappointed in them.......or......
c) don't pass on my disgust, but don't go either and feed them a Jimmy Hill excuse?
